We lose the KG game.
scUM was down also the last 4 or 5 years of Tressels run. I like Tressel and was never a basher, but the OLine play was getting worse, players were out of shape, The attitude had to change and the new staff Meyer in particular has change that. This team would not be undefeated no matter what the schedule was under Tressel.
man he was a hell of a coach for going 12-1 with no o line and every player being out of shape.
i love urban, and i as i stated we arent 10-0 with tressel right now, but i dont get how people make some of these comments. if we want to say that our o line is much better now, i agree with you 100% but you better recognize this defense is much much worse than any tressel defense. so we have a better o line with urban with a significantly worse defense.
It's almost a clown question. We are undefeated after 10 games. Tressel could only do as good or worse. What's the point?
Posters say the O-line is so much better this year. In Tressel's last year here we averaged 220 yards a game rushing and 5.2 yards per carry. And 39 points per game. JT recruited every starter on this year's O-line.
But I'll guarantee you he would not be better than 10-0 right now.
but dont you know, our team was always out of shape. like i alway say the way some people talk only favors what an amazing coach tressel must have been. he surrounded himself around incompetent people and groomed players to be fat and out of shape, but he still won what 85% of his games? clearly that makes him the better coach if he is handicapping himself that much yet still winning.
He coached here for 10 years, find me a coach that has coached a single team for 10 years & hasn't had any short comings?
You talk about an inconsistent or bad staff, show me a team without its leader that Is successful during a turmoil.
Honestly I don't see why we need super heroes and villians after we have a scandal and a bad season in 11 years.
Im not a coach evaluator, every wants a villian (Bollman) if he fell of in recruiting and Warriner is supposed to be the hero that saved this O line, when they have been run blocking all along really doesn't make sense. Unless the basis are biased.
Now if you are telling me the Offensive line has exceeded expectations, because blocking for a pro style Offense is different from the spread and you didn't expect them to be good and to make the switch fluidly. I will understand.
Too much, this coach this, this that. They are gone like some people wanted. So why are we having these discussions. So some fans can say they were right all along? Or to give boarding house some creditability?
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
so you agree but have no reason! Interesting. When Meyer got here WTF did he say. The OLine sucked. So if you want to argue with him I guess you know better. Bollan sucked ! Do you fucking argue with that!
This fucking team was 6-7 last year you want to argue with that
first off in your 6-7 comment, that wasnt tressel coaching. secondly to this comment im simply stating the obvious. if you want to knock tressel for our offensive line play, go right ahead. hell ive done the same damn thing, but you better knock urban meyer for being the head coach of our worst defense in the last 11 seasons. you cant blame tress for the line, give credit to urban for the o line and not blame urban for the defense when it's been frankly bad the entire season outside of 2 games.
i dont get why we even compare them anymore and just appreciate the fact that we are maybe one of two schools that can go from having the 3rd best coach in all of college football to the second best coach in all of college football. enough with making tressel sound like he didnt give us the best decade in the history of the school. urban has to live up to the tressel standard of winning at ohio state (and i think he will).

I did if you read my first post. I also said I loved Tressel . I guess I should have answered the questioned no a simple NO!
True statement belucky, but wasn't the trend starting to happen under JT. You could start seeing holes poke through in the defense when he was here. And then last year with the same defensive staff, the wall almost came down. Then the beginning of the year, all the little holes ended up being 1 giant hole. But the last several weeks have looked good. This could a be a huge turn around for the defensive side. Maybe Urban got some concrete at Home Depot, and is repairing that giant hole piece by piece.
hmmmm, good question...
i think 10-0 very possible, but in a different way....
would still have close games but more like the ol tress teams (great d and special teams and boring, ball control o) low scoring (14-10, 17-14 etc...)
we would never have put up the points and yds against nebraska and indiana, but never have given up soo many either...
urban's spread puts our d on the field more quickly (3 and outs last only a couple minutes) where tress's ball control and field position give the d more time to rest....
if the tatoo mess never happened tress and co would have won 11 games last yr and never missed a beat this yr....
however, tress probably loses to purdue if the game played out the same way....that win was all urban!!!!
both great coaches, but just complete opposite approaches...
we are lucky to have had both!
Almost agree with all you say, other than the defensive defencies. Yes, the defense is on the field more often with a fast scoring offense, but, what I saw earlier this year was poor tackling and pursuit angles. The defense has made some adjustments and are now playing much better. While at the same time, I have felt for quite some time that the offense we were running was putting way too much stress for the defense to play near perfect due to low output and IMO playing way too safe.
Agreed. But if tress was still here I assume Heacock would be as well and the Fickell Heacock combo was a good one so I think our D would be better. No knock on withers and Fickell because I think there's just too many new parts on the D coaching staff this year to expect the synergy Fick and Heacock had.
Tressel would slow this offense down keeping our defense off the field more, Braxton would still be braxton making amazing plays off read option runs, I am all for Meyer being here and truly believe he's a step up from Tressel but there is no reason to not think with the way Tressel dominated the big ten that he'd also be undefeated.

10-0 Tress was no slouch. Over his 10 year tenure he was 3rd among active coaches in winning percentage over that span. Only Urban and Saban had a higher percentage and Saban took time off to test the NFL.
As for Purdue we did not struggle with them at home under Tress.
BIG Champs 2013 [Buckeyes]
completely agree with you. I think we are sitting i the same position but instead of a top 10 offense we are talking about a top ten Defense and Basil would be up for the Groza award.
9-1. Would have won every game but Nebraska. Nebraska was a game ohio state needed to score a lot of points. I don't think Tressel's style would have gone well in that game.
Absolutely no way. I'd say the wheels would be falling off right now if Tressel were coaching, probably 7-3, an embarrassment considering the weak schedule.
The play of the offensive line has been radically improved because of no other reason than coaching. Being aggressive on offense, going for it on 4th down are gambles that have paid huge dividends for this team. Tressel never would have taken those chances.
