I think too often many of us ignore the obvious. We often say things such as, "None of that really matters if..."
But during this $EC reign there are two constants: humiliating the B1G and ND either on Monday nights in BC$ title games or in general by a 41-14 margin.
It all began exactly six years ago when we were pummeled in the desert by a shocking 41-14 score. That same bowl season and just a few days before, LSU had disposed of Notre Dame by the exact same score in the Sugar Bowl. This past season Alabama beat Michigan 41-14 and then last night, The Tide rolled over the Irish by a 42-14 margin. All they needed to have done was missed the PAT or for ND's defense to have played the way they were capable of doing and hold them to two field goals after scoring their fifth TD and we would've had the perfect 41.
Prior to our BC$ title game meltdowns in '07 and '08 we were on a four-bowl game winning streak. We had won our first two in the Fiesta Bowl on consecutive Friday nights, the Alamo on a Tuesday night and then our matchup vs ND on a Monday afternoon, early evening.
But once it turned to prime time on Monday night, it proved to be our kryptonite.
Again we had won four straight bowl games, three of which were BC$ bowls. Then all of a sudden we go on a 3-game BC$ bowl skid losing to Florida, LSU and Texas. Alll on Monday nights.
Following those losses, we'd get back in the black with BC$ bowl wins against Oregon on a Friday evening and vs ARK on a Tuesday night. Last year we'd lose to Florida on a Monday afternoon in Jacksonville.
There's no denying the mere coincidences of Monday-night bowl games and 41-14 scores.
And for us, for better or worse, we're going to have to address it. Meyer needs to acknowledge it and bring in team psychologists, priests or whomever in order for us to overcome those barriers. To make sure we score more than 14 points and to grow accustomed to playing in championship games on Monday nights because next year the BC$ title game in Pasadena is set for a Monday night. I don't like it because of our recent history but again we have to acknowledge it.
We have to see it as a possible barrier or stumbling block and then devise ways to counter and overcome it. Let's not pretend like it isn't vitally important or relevant because it is.
It's happened too often in just a few years for us to continue ignoring it.
Sugar, are you related to Jim Garrison? Does the term "grassy knoll" mean anything to you? Have you, or any of your family ever visited an area known as Loch Ness?
How firm thy friendship O-HI-O
Funny coincidence to be sure...
"Buckeye born and bred, a Buckeye 'til I'm dead"
I am tired of your long winded nonsesensical rants
LOL, Sugar. Excellent research!
Bring in the priests and psychologists!
Great post sugar, just before Chuman does it,
Btw the post sucks, like all the other BS. The funny thing is you really want us to take you serious..
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
A witch doctor may be the appropriate professional to summon in this instance.
Maybe a little voodoo can break the SECs dominance.
+1 i bet it took him 2 hours to write this thesis
And I'm tired of your short, nonsensical diatribe-laden responses!
What does diatribe mean?
And it's dumbass comments like this why we continue getting whupped on the big stage.
The fact remains that we have not performed well on Monday nights in BC$ bowls. You can say this is nonsense, BS, being overly superstitious or whatever else but that doesn't make it any less of a fact.
Just like it was a fact that when Saban is given a month to prepare and for a game that matters, they do well. Just as it was the case that the great ND coaches all won national titles in year three (Saban was aware of that along with the fact that no team had won back-to-back BC$ titles or won when they were the heavy favorites since 2001) Or other stats for some teams that win games when leading at the half. And while this may not be a stat that E$PiN or your local sports commentator brings up, I have.
And I have simply because I know it's one BuckeyeNation by and large hasn't analyzed as to why. The first time we were heavy favorites, the next year underdogs and the third, heavy underdogs with something to prove. Each time a different motivation or circumstance yet the constant--Monday night BC$/BC$ title games.
And about the 41-14 scores? Well in each instance both us, ND and Michigan were expected to either win or play a close and competitive game vs the likes of LSU, Florida and Alabama and then the above scores happened. These weren't games where either of the three northern schools were heavy underdogs. If so then those scores could be better explained but the exact same point margin in each of these games I find quite interesting and ironic.
Say this post sucks all you want because I didn't post it for accolades or approval. In fact I knew I'd get asinine responses from many here, most especially you which of course isn't anything new is it? Bottom line here choose to ignore these statistical facts all you want and it'll continue to bite us in the rear. We need to acknowledge it and then know the type of challenge we have ahead of us so we won't fall victim to it again.
Why are we 1-9 or 1-10 all time vs the $EC in bowl games--a time span that began 35 years ago? And why is it that we get blown out by $EC schools usually on Monday nights or Mondays in general usually by large margins? Come up with an anwer to that smartass!
SUGAR say no to Drugs... Didn't want to qoute that really long BS post..
Great post gh. got me on that one.
Listen it's not about Monday night games, it's because of the over-signing, and the weather.
