OK guys this flu is kicking my ass got any home remedies that might help??
WWW.WTSAC.ORG Woody & Tony's Strokes Against Cancer.
#1- Dont get the flu shot. I havent had the flu (knock on wood) for 5 years. The one and only time I got the flu shot I got the fl, no shit 5 times that year.
Keep sipping water, I like 7up. You need a bed the raises up and you raise it to 38 degrees. Ge in there and have your wife put movies on for the next 24 hours. When you feel like you can eat atleast alittle, saltine crackers.
Get well buddy!
I feel for you IB. The entire family has traded that damn flu around for weeks now. When I finally got rid of the respiratory crud I promptly came down with the stomach flu. Total shit show...literally.
There were times when I honestly considered an exorcism. Be well, sooner than later!
I'll try anything including an exorcism if it will help. It sucks going into people houses everyday to work, seems like I get sick every time I turn around. BG never had a flu shot before and never will.
I got the flu shot in the fall, and now I've been sick for like the past 5 days. It sucks!! I usually just drink a whole bunch of different liquids- juice, 7up, water, gatorade, powerade, sometimes even orange juice. saltine crackers and soup.
MEMO TO FICKELL: DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!
8 people in my house. 6 had flu shots and 2 got the flu. Not going to debate the merits of the shot though. Vaccinations are getting to be much like religion and politics. IB, wife and I got it and got tamiflu and hydrocodone spiked cough syrup within 48 hrs or so. Worked wonders. According to the doctor this has been an especially terrible year. Good luck man.
IB, I feel for you. I had it last week and went to the ER. My body aches were so bad I could not take it. I didn't sleep for three nights. I'm still weak as heck but finally feeling better as each days comes.
ER gave me Tamiflu. I took it and drank a whole lot of gatoraid.
Hope you get better.
Colodial Silver and Sambucol. You'll feel better right away. Its all natural and works great
I don't get a long with doctors real well so I avoid them. I have 4 herniated disks in my neck and I won't even take ibuprofen for the pain. I'm hoping for a home good home remedy, thought about drinking a pint of fireball.
Same experience with the flu shot. Never again!
Why 38 degrees?
IB, only home remedy I know of is a HUGH bottle of Wisky and go sweat your ass off to get the fever gone. That's what my grandpa used to say. I'm a beer drinker so I have never tried it.
How you feel better soon!!
Wild Turkey, straight up, with ice, & lemon in a 16 oz plastic tumbler!
I will debate vaccinations, aside from flu shots. For those of you who don't vaccinate for the serious stuff, who the HELL do you think you are? I'd like to reach way back and punch a hole through your useless brain if you anyone is on this side. It is because of responsible people that you have been allowed this "choice"!!!! Not saying you are in this camp. Just saying.
Back to the flu......apparently, this flu shot is worthless on the really bad flu going around. It is an educated guess as to what flu viruses will hit the world and that is what they use to come up with I believe three antiviruses in the vaccine. This one was a swing and miss. However, the ones they guessed on were likely worse. It is this reason I just treat the symptoms and take tamiflu when it hits the house. My daughter got it and the whole house was placed on Tamiflu and nobody else got it....
IB, I heard a few drops of oregano oil really help symptoms. It is extremely spicy and burns the mouth but some folks I know swear by it.
+1. Lemon is a good source of vitamin C and the Wild Turkey should knock you out enough to get some rest. Win-Win.
Try a ginger root tea. Add some cayenne pepper (just enough to break a sweat). Ginger is good for building up the immune system. Your local grocer should have it. Did this last year for my girlfriend. Made her drink a little every hour. Fever broke that night.
Flu shot eliminates risk. It doesn't eliminate the possibility of getting one of the variations that are going around. I've not gotten the flu shot and have gotten it over the years. Can't remember the last time I had the flu, but I get sinus congestion at the hint of a change in weather. Use a nasal flush religiously.
Gin is a good one too.
Then my favorite is pho!
My wife is a huge fan of the use of essential oils. When I was sick she dosed me with oregano and peppermint. I was so hopped up cold meds I have no idea if it worked or not.
All my children are vaccinated as am I and my wife. I only meant that its pointless to argue with the folks who don't vaccinate. My wife is from California and has a few friends in that camp. They are convinced that their kids will die from a vaccine and arguing the subject is much like beating your head on a wall. My step-father is a surgeon and he believes strongly in vaccines. He is much smarter than I so ive always trusted his medical advice. So you don't need to worry about punching a hole through my brain as you so eloquently put it.
Moonshine. 2 shots.
Everyone in my house had the flu shot, no flu here.

"man we got some fuckin weirdos on this site." - Davebucknut 9/5/13 post of the year
My "cure": One large bowl of Japanese Nabeyaki Udon noodle soup with 12 oz Sake. Any good Japanese restaurant will have a version of this. Go heavy sprinkling Japanese hot red pepper in the soup See link below. (You can use scallions instead of leaks.)
My wife is Asian. Her home remedy supposedly has something to do with Chinese Medicine. It is for the more adventurous or borderline psychotic amongst us that are seeking cold and flu relief. I swear that I'm not making this up. Use this one at your own risk. Here it is:
Have someone slather your back with extra strength Tiger Balm. Then have them scrape your back with the edge of a spoon until it is beet red and striped like you've been whipped. . There needs to be a VERY heavy layer of Tiger Balm under the spoon where you are being scraped so you won't get cut or scratched. The person doing the scraping will know they are done when your back looks like hell after about 10 or 15 minutes. When the scrapping is done, put on a sweat shirt, get under the blankets, and get plenty of sleep. Believe it or not, she has had me scrape her back with Tiger Balm many times over the years, and she always feels better the next day. But then again, how could she not?

Patrick : "What do you think about the Ohio State hire?" Hoke: "Not...not good"
I jump on Zicam at the slightest sign of any sickness. Last year I missed on one an was sick for about a week. Haven't had a flu shot in about 5 years and no flu and few colds to speak of. Lots of liquids and lemon water. Rest when you can. Good luck.
go to krogers and buy some "airborne". take it every day until the flu season ends. you will cut your chances of getting sick in half, you may not get sick at all. i have not had a flu shot in 4 years years.i started taking the airborne instead and knock on wood i haven't had a cold or the flu in 4 years. if you are already sick start taking it. it will help you feel better quicker. i'm not a doctor but i believe in airborne!
I got the flu shot yesterday, I've never had one before. I guess the media hype guilted me into it.
About 30 beers and an electric blanket on high. Sweat and pee it out! We had the same thing in our office for 3 weeks. Just kept passing it around. It also helps to change your furnace filters. Really a furnace moves around more air and particles then anything.
Drink excessive amounts of clear liquids -- I generally go with water and try to avoid soda / pop because the syrup from the soda gets stuck in your throat when you're sick and makes you feel like you're hacking up a lung and makes it even more painful to swallow. If you stick to water, you'll avoid that and it will usually help you not lose your voice also -- you want to drink so much water that when you pee, it looks like water coming out. Other than that, pain killers like Advil to keep the fever down so you don't have constant chills. Try to eat what you can. Your body can't fight the virus without energy.
To avoid the flu / cold, try to not let people get into your personal space because when they are strangers, you don't know what they've been sick with, or who they've been around, so try to avoid breathing in when someone is directly facing you -- I know, sounds crazy, but this is one way diseases spread. Also, most importantly, get in a habit of never touching your face when your hands are "contaminated" (I will explain). I know you work in the cable industry, so what you want to do is this -- get a hand sanitizer dispenser and put it in your truck. As soon as you leave the truck and go into someone's house or even your home-base for work and you touch something with your hands, consider yourself "contaminated" and do not touch your face AT ALL until you sanitize. I thank my wife who sorta opened my eyes to germs, etc. She is an administrator at a preschool so they constantly have to take classes that educate them about disease prevention, and ever since she explained all this stuff to me about germs and all I've been pretty consistent with doing what I can to prevent myself from getting sick. I work in IT, so like you, I'm constantly in people's offices and workspaces touching their keyboards & mice and ever since I started making sure I sanitize my hands when I get back to my own desk before I touch anything of mine I have not been sick. The last time I got sick was in July 2010. Since then I have not had a cold or flu, not even once.
And like Briguy said -- don't ever get a flu shot. :)
