Some links to raw video (posted on Bucknuts home) of former players saluting Tress. Notice Troy Smith welling up with tears and their embrace at the end. Just warms the heart.
James Laurinaitis talks threats and Troy Smith gets emotional as both share their favorite memories with Jim Tressel at a charity event

"Buckeye born and bred, a Buckeye 'til I'm dead"
There's an article on the front page on the Tressel tribute along with a link to Cie Grant singing Carmen Ohio. That will bring a tear to your eye as well.
Thanks for posting these miguel. I love me some Tress and Troy. These are fantastic.
When I hear about tress or read articles about him and of course watching him talk I feel a mix of emotions.
First I feel care because his tenure at osu was so profound and I think he's a fantastic human being.
Then I feel a sting from the pain of how it went down and ended.
DAMN THIS SUCKS!, Here i am a grown man sitting at work with tears of pride welling up in my eyes at the sight of these former players that showed up to honor a great man, great coach, great mentor. all the Buckeye haters can suck it!!! this is the stuff that make me proud to be a Buckeye forever, you can kick us beat us down, but we will come back stronger than ever!! thank you coach tress for the 9 and 1 against scum. and for the lasting legacy you left at "THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY".
AWESOME! Troy Smith is hands down my favorite tOSU player EVER!

look straight at me and you see yourself”

That's how I feel. Thanks for crystallizing it for me Dave.
After all this time. I think I can say I understand why things went down the way they did, but I just don't feel the 'scandal' like some do. To me, what happened really wasn't such a big deal in the grand scheme of what he was trying to do. His bigger problem was a lack of willingness to get new coaches in and put the boys in a better position to win.
I think what was more evident now that I look back that the program was on the downturn and Tress was never going to get back to 2002-06. He was most likely going to retire soon anyhow.
Np bro, honestly that doesn't even cover it all for me. Growing up following the bruce days and then getting my heart ripped out because of Cooper seemingly every year, tress became almost a security blanket for me. I always had trust and Faith that no matter what we'd have a good team, beat ttun, and hopefully win our bowl game.
What "downturn" was that, Macedonia?
JT's final year coaching in 2010, the Buckeyes he went 12-1 with a 37-7 win over Michigan and a BCS Bowl victory over Arkansas. Along the way he beat Marshall 45-7, Ohio 43-7, Eastern Michigan 73-20, Purdue 45-0, Minnesota 52-10, and Penn State 38-14. The offense averaged 220 yards rushing per game at over 5 yards per carry and TP completed over 65% of his passes. The defense was it's usual stingy self.
Of course you may be referring to the fact that Wisconsin beat us up there and we didn't go undefeated. He could have done better, eh?
It couldn't be stated any better than this. This wasn't a scandal, it was a nationwide media witch hunt in all out attempt to bring our program down. Did wrong things happen? Yes. Scandal? No! You say you want to see scandal? Look over at State College, Pa.
I also agree about his retiring in the near future. I think he would have coached through this season. Urban would have just taken over next year!!
I think he's just trying to say the end of the JT era may have been drawing close anyway. They got so close in 06 & 07, then 08-10 just not being able to get back to the NC game.
LOL, yeah I will take that kind of downturn any day of the week! You forgot to mention he won the Rose Bowl the year before. If anything, he was on an upswing verging closer to getting back to the MNC game.
While I agree, many things were positive, Bollman and Schilano were going to be a problem long term, and TP had way too much rope on his leash. Also let's not forget TatGate would have negated 2011 regardless of who coached and thanks to the "witchhunt" we might have suffered worse in recruiting. I will however go to my grave believing there is much more to what Smith knew, and that JT fell on his sword..Without TatGate?...Very real chance for NC participant in 2011. At the very least BCS.
How firm thy friendship O-HI-O
If tatgate doesn't happen we likely go undefeated this year and play in the nc game. Just my opinion.
Alright, already. We all know the statistical dominance by Jim Tressel's Buckeyes. But there is no way he was going to win another NC with the personnel he had on board. And I didn't notice a move to change. I did notice a guy that aged significantly, and was a bit tired.
This is why I was hoping he would have taken over as AD and had Meyer take over naturally. But it seems folks had ideas of their own.
JT may work at Akron but he'll always be a Buckeye.
