BOB wins BIG COY honor....They are already spewing off about winning it over an undefeated Urban....they don't get it, it's kind of like those HS teams that let their "Ball Boy" get in the game and score while the opposing team doesn't cover him.....
It was a sympathy award. But they will be throwing the "WE ARE" out for a month over that win...haha...
Admittedly psu was the 'feel' good story this year.
Yes, I see that. Just don't necessarily think it was a GREAT coaching job. They had pretty good players, they had good defense coming back. They beat the Ohio U's of last year. So, just don't think it was as good a coaching job as Urban did this year. JMO
No Jerry was Dr Feelgood
“The only thing they can get me for is running a funeral parlor without a license.”
Sorry Robo, I was being a smart ass with that 'feel' comment. I agree that it's lame he won but, my tongue in cheek quip aside, he did better than I had expected. In my horribly biased opinion Meyer should've won.
12-0 the world can suck my big fat c*ck. The B1G has never wanted to name OSU coach Coach of the year. How many did Tress win (0) F*ck all the butt hurt cunts
Wow I didn't know that. Makes this award a "who cares?" award. Or maybe "runner up" Big 10 COY award, because we all know who the best coach is.
it was kind of funny in '02 Tress won Nat'l coach of the year....
Yes sirrrr! That is an absolute fact. BOB gets the sympathy award. That is before he decides to bolt back to the NFL!

Guy from PSU coached his butt off. They lost how many starters to transfer including some very strong players just before the season started and then they started 0-2. That guy and his staff really did some coaching, IMO.
That being said, Meyer will be faced with the same problem Tressel had. Expectations. He is so highly regarded he will never surprise voters with success.
Go from 6-7 to 12-0 and that's not coach of the year??? Come on, man!

This is it. Not to take anything away from O'Brien but Urban's mountain just wasn't considered as high.
And I think there are some people who didn't care for Urban...see him as a cheater, scam artist, snake, snake oil salesman, whatever.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pat Fitzgerald got more votes than Urban. And that's because every year, another team will overachieve and exceed expectations, like Ferentz did in 2002, while OSU will continue to chug along at its normally high level.
It's hard for people to be impressed when the team that's expected to always win wins.
Tressel went 14-0 and one an NC and National COY in 2002, and he didn't win the Big 10 COY. The award has been a joke ever since.
In 30 years when people are looking at old records, they will see a 12-0 team in 2012, and they will see Urban Meyer's name by it; no other validation is needed.
Patrick : "What do you think about the Ohio State hire?" Hoke: "Not...not good"
"Go from 6-7 to 12-0 and that's not coach of the year??? Come on, man!"
JT should have won that award (at least) 3 times and UM should have won this year. No validity whatsoever for the BIG COY anymore. What a scam. All of the voters must think going 12 & 0 happens all the time.
sure, 9-4 last year, 8-4 this year. great job.
i know they lost players. schools lose players every year to graduation.
that being said.....who really cares?
Buckeye coaches rarely win this award. Its because the rest of the B1G hates us. So be it. I doubt Urb was too worried about this award, so neither am I.
Well, I guess we can look at it like this.....PSU going 8-4 is AWESOME for their lack of talent....They should like that...anyone not banned over there, just go over and mention Mauti is overrated or he's a bit of a wimp to be jumping around on the sidelines but not playing....If you really want to see a blow up, that'll do it...They have the hugest "Man Crush" on Mauti over there, it's almost weird...
Much like the Big 10 Championship game.
"Tressel went 14-0 and won a NC and National COY in 2002, and he didn't win the Big 10 COY. The award has been a joke ever since."
Absolutely, this award is a farce. It should be renamed to "Which BIG coach does it not feel so bad to lose to." Ask around, everybody in this
league would rather lose to anyone else but the Buckeyes. They thought 2011 would be the new normal for OSU. Then we signed Meyer and everybody knew the ass-whippings would continue as before. I love it.
exactly! + 1
right...but somehow Kirk Ferrentz was the B1G's coach of the year....whatever.
Because I really doubt most people truly understand how hard it is to do what you're actually expected to do and in the end actually achieve it!!
It's the difference between sitting on the mountain and climbing the mountain.
The expectations of staying on top of the mountain and repeating that success isn't hard in most people's eyes...they see those trying to climb that mountain and expect them to only get a 1/4 of the way up and if they make it a 1/3 of the way up they are blown away and think that it's amazing....which it is...but it is extremely short sighted.
When I was a kid, we played a game called King of the Mountain. A neighbor's backyard sloped up. One guy would be at the top and he'd be the king and everyone else would start at the bottom and would run up to be the first to knock him off and thereby assume the title. But on the way up, other guys would try to pull you down so they'd get there first. By the time anyone got to the top, they were so worn out, the King, who conserved his energy waiting, had the upper hand.
Same thing: everyone expects Ohio State to be the King of the Mountain and whether or not anyone knocks us off becomes irrelevant because they're acknowledging the climb up first.
It would have been interesting if Luke had finished 8-4 instead of 6-6 last year--if the XP against Purdue didn't get blocked and we'd beaten PSU or scUM--would he have gotten any credit for weathering that shitstorm? Or would it have still been Brady Hoke? My guess is Hoke still would have won it even though scUM had gone 7-5 under RichRod in 2010.
it is what is, big deal............I don't need some half-ass award, from a group of losers to tell me, who the coach of the year is................THANK YOU UM FOR CONTINUING WHAT JT BUILT. WE ALL KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO STAY AT THE TOP, WE PLAY EACH WEEK WITH A GIANT BULLSEYE ON OUR BACKS!!!!!!!! and continue to OWN this conference!!!!!!!
Well, yeah, everyone loses players, but PSU only played with 67 scholarship players this year. Our best RB and WR left. Our K left (which cost us the UVA game). On offense, we started a former walk-on at QB who was 2nd last in this conference in QB rating (only ahead of our other QB who transferred out this year). Both of our starting TE's and one of the guards were 2 star recruits. Our starting RB was a FB recruit. The WRs had a total of less than 10 catches between them in their careers. We only had two 4 star players on offense (our LT and Zwinack).
We had more talent on defense, but less depth especially at LB and DB. Our LB corps was really only 4 players, and when Mauti got hurt, we basically didn't rotate anyone in. We started the season with 6 players on scholarship (that didn't RS) at DB, with one of them being a former walk-on. We never installed a nickle package because of it.
If Urban won that award, no one would have questioned it. He did a hell of a job. But BOB did as well. USC is using only having 75 scholarship players (who were mostly blue chip prospects) as an excuse for going 7-5. At 67 scholarship players, BOB went 8-4, would have went 9-3 with a kicker and should have had a real chance to go 10-2 without the TD/No TD call at Nebraska. That is why he is coach of the year.
Wonder if they make it to 6-6 next year he wins another! lol
I think he's COY so the BIG could throw PSU a bone and shut their fans "conspiracy theory" talk up. They're like little kids, if you give them something shiny and new, they won't notice the other toy they lost.
Total sympathy vote....
If all the PSU guys on the All BIG teams is accurate, then BOB actually didn't coach them very well, as they should have NEVER lost to Ohio and Virginia with all that talent.
