With all of the parity in CFB lately, and A&M beating Bama on the road, it makes me wonder if Oklahoma St would've won the National Championship last season if they had gotten a fair shot to play for it.
MEMO TO FICKELL: DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!
Six time defending National champs from that conference.
Like them or not, they are the measuring stick.
Look at it this way, most will say can KSU beat Alabama, or can the compete. No one is asking can Alabama compete with KSU or beat them.
That's the standard, and frankly, rightfully so.
"man we got some fuckin weirdos on this site." - Davebucknut 9/5/13 post of the year
FWIW, a lot of the computers have Big 12 as a better conference this year than the SEC, so no way an undefeated KSU isn't in the NC game. Plus, Bama has basically played nodody. They have played 3 teams in the current top-25. They lost one, almost lost another, and beat a lousy Scum team. They have played two other teams with a winning record, Western KY and Miss St. Not exactly a meat grinder. Their two remaining regular season games are against teams with a combined record of 3-17. Even if they beat GA in the SEC title game, they have no business jumping an undefeated team. Bamas best game was their first game of the season.
Say what you want about ND, but they have beaten 3 teams in the current top-25, including Michigan. They beat the 2nd best team in the Pac12, 2nd best in Big12, 2nd to third best in B1G, and still have USC to play. They have won close, ugly and lucky, but they have won.
KSU is 2-0 vs. current top-25 and still has Texas. If the Big 12 isn't the best conference, they are probably #2 and no worse than #3.
Oregon has beaten the crap out of everyone they have played, which is basically nobody besides USC. However, they still have Stanford, Or.St and the CCG, so that should be 3 games vs. top-25 teams.
Georgia has one win vs. top-25---Florida. They were crushed by South Carolina. No A&M, no LSU, no Bama. They have nobody left on the schedule other than CCG. Basically, unlike most years, the SEC didn't actually beat the crap out of each other because most of the top teams didn't play each other.
Sorry SEC, time to pass the torch. There is always next year (or two of the top 3 lose this year). I actually wouldn't mind seeing Georgia in the NC game, it would be nice to say an SEC team lose, and Georgia always chokes.
Every year someone comes along and tries to devalue the SEC, they out of conference schedules they play, and attempts to build up another conference.
I used to be one of these people. But, unfortunately, any argument devaluing that conference, and the argument extends to Alabama, is a bunch of bullshit.
No conference in the NCAA is harder. None has more talent. Those teams beat the shir out of each other each week. It is an absolute meat grinder.
Can a team beat a Bama or such in a one game scenario? I certainly hope so.
But to state they are passing the torch? Absurd.
what's funny is that was/is the ONLY tough part about bama's schedule this year and they couldnt get it done.
go kstate and oregon !!!!
And I agree 100% that they should be ranked #1 while undefeated. But they lost and they lost AT HOME, and KSU is still undefeated and they look like the real deal. For those that have watched them play that is. They deserve to be ranked in the top 2.
Top to bottom the SEC is not what they have been the last couple years. They still have 4 or 5 good teams but the rest of the conference blows ass.
Well technically speaking...
Texas A & M is not even a year removed from the Big 12.....so essentially they are a Big 12 team. And they just beat the #1 SEC team.
Now that Bama has lost an undefeated team from a power conference should move ahead of them in this system. I agree.
But the assertions that the SEC blows ass or is overrated is a bit overboard, IMO.
I'm looking forward to a playoff system as one loss shouldn't knock a great team out of contention. Eventually this may even work in our Buckeyes favor.
