Am thinking by week 5 or 6 if our safeties don't step up & tackle and take bad angles one of them is getting benched for Vonn Bell.
& the CB spot also Eli apple or burrows ..
Yes it's hard to come in and play as a frosh, but by week 6 the pups will start biting!!
Who do y'all think ?
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
Defensively the easy answer would be vonn bell, due to many different obvious reasons.. such as he's a better true safety than the the starters! But ill pick bosa, his intensity is sure to win over vrabel the moment he arrives on campus! Offensively there's no way urban keeps james clarks speed off the field!!! No way...
Let me say I hope this never happens, but I think injuries might play a key role for these freshman to step up.
When does spring ball start again? If it was tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough.
Mitchell and Johnson will get a lot of looks at linebacker.
MEMO TO FICKELL: DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!
For what it's worth, Derek Dooley today said that wide receivers, running backs, cornerbacks and safeties are the easiest positions to play freshman because they don't have to know the entire package but can be used in certain formations and situations. He said they are also "edge" positions were an individual's talent can allow him to excel and compensate for his lack of experience, while the linemen, in particular, require chemistry and cohesion, and it can take time to gel.
I'm feeling 1, 2, maybe even 3 of Marshall, Elliot, Wilson, and Clark. On Defense Bosa, Johnson, Mitchell, Bell, Burrows, Conley, and Apple will all have a shot but there is a ton of talent, albeit inexperienced, on the D side of the ball. I think Grant and Roby lock down the Corners and the Safeties should at least start the season as the same in Barnett and Bryant.. Pitt Brown, Griffin, and Reeves might find some time at DB as well. The DB spot should be young but loaded. LB is the biggest concern still.
Short and sweet....
I'd say Jalin on offense and Bell on D. But also keep Burrows in mind. He was chirping awhile back about playing S too.
"Any board that would ban 3yds is worthless"
Jalin Marshall. Listening to Urban you can tell that he's a good one. Cant wait to see his development it 2 or 3 years !
Well until they get on the field no one know how any of these guys will do as college football players High School rankings not withstanding. How may would have predicted Roby's success a couple or three years ago or Bell's failure. That said I would say the backs and receivers or one of the linebackers have the best chance. Bell maybe but we will see. Playing safety even in college is about more then just hitting people. You have to master the coverages. If he can so much the better for the team.
You are kind of right, Roby was like a 2 star or 3 going to Vandy. So that's y i don't fall for the star system. Am only saying Vonn Bell because our 2 safeties have been really lacking.
But am not sleeping on the 3 stars in this class Lee , Thompson, lower guys really tend to work hard
Without stating what everyone else said I think Price. Most of the coaches have been talking Price up

if we're talking just playing time i say: probably about 16 of the 24 guys play. guys who make a big difference in their playing time i could see: baugh, bell, bosa, price, corey smith, dontre wilson, johnson, mitchell, marshall and apple.
i think mitchell or johnson win one of the starting spots but both will not start. leaning towards mitchell but honestly dont know. i could see bosa playing much like adolphous this year where he technically didnt start but played starters minutes. bell i could see them playing him a lot on passing down and movie bryant to star but he wont start in their base defense. marshall and wilson will get a lot of playing time on the slot receiver spot (or that percy harvin position everyone loves to call it). wilson seems to be an urban favorite.
clarke and zeke will be return men in my opinion next season
i hope EZE after watching the video. hope he wins the heisman some day.
Im goin to go witn Tyquan Lewis at DE or Leo. He is in winter conditioning at TOS an is a very athletic BIG. I think bough becomes a mismatch nightmare an so will jalin an clark
I think we will see a few on offense just because they are playmakers.
My favorite to see is Clark. He is a guy that the "Jet sweep" was made for. We don't have anyone on the roster with his speed. We might see Wilson. We WILL see Marshal. Too big of a playmaker to keep on the sidelines. I think we see Wilson on special teams as a return man early on.
On defense I don't really see a true freshman supplanting a multi-year starter. Playing defense is very difficult at safety due to the coverages and reads being more complex. Linebacker is just as hard. Playing the line isn't much different than at the high school level. Maintain gap integrity and play your assignment. Even so our defensive front is stacked. Bosa is probably the one most physically ready to play. But how are you going to play him over Washington or Bennet? Those two guys are good. Washington is a damn beast.
I don't see any defensive players starting this season barring injury. Linebacker is thin. I think Mitchel stand the best chance. Hill might play a 1 technique and we dont have anyone like that on the roster anymore since Hankins left. So forget what I said about Bosa. Micheal Hill is your most likely starter as a freshman.
"The only thing That Team Up North will be tasting this year is the salty tears of defeat" - UFM
I can't even guess who (if any) will be starting before the seasons end but I would imagine there will be a few. What I do think though is that we will see a VAST improvement in our special teams, easpecially on the defense (kickoff) with all that speed and hitting ability.
if bennett keeps taking plays off like he did against ttun then BOSA will get plenty of playing time ! an example being the long detard run for a touchdown. it started with three blockers and detard running right past bennett as he just stood there and then slowly trots down the field behind them. i only hope URBAN noticed it too!!!
It really is hard to project however what I do know for sure is that a combination of Wilson and Clarke will see time on punt/kickoff returns.
There has been a deficiency with that unit ever since Ginn Jr left. And that's been more than six years now. So expect to see a combination of them next season.
I think Marshall will see PT as well considering the inconsistencies we've had at WR--and definitely if Philly Brown has to sit out due to an injury.
Clearly one of the freshmen LBers will see significant PT if the upperclassmen haven't found ways to pick up on the schemes and learn to play assignment football and finally I think that there will be an opportunity for either Bosa and/or Bell to see PT as well with the overall lack of talent depth and lack of leadership at those respective positions.
Cam Burrows is a big guy. Am I the only one who think he is going to "outgrow" CB and end up at safety?
I agree about Burrows. Not saying he will end up a S, but I mentioned earlier also.
if he can cover he stays @ CB..there is a market for big CBs..
Agreed. Bosa and Price should see some playing time as well along the DL.
On Offense I think that Clark, Wilson, Smith and Marshall all see the field.
Joey Bosa will by my pick as most freshman played. Remember we just lost our entire DLine and we like to rotate a lot. Bosa already has the size and athleticism to play. I disagree with Bell because the secondary requires a lot of communication that I don't think a freshman can handle with flying colors.
My 2 is Jalin Marshall for obvious reasons.
Legitimately we could have 10-12 getting major playing time. I think the obvious that are at least in the two deep are Marshall, Clark, Wilson, Bell, Bosa, Mitchell, Johnson, and Apple. That is 8 right there. Price could contribute especially if he moves to offense. Burrows is also a guy who could seek his way into the two deep. Baugh could be a match-up nightmare at H-back TE Elliot probably gets some run on kick return, it we are very deep right now at RB. I think Hill and Lewis are good redshirt candidates as are Gardiner and Thompson. I am missing/forgetting 8-10 guys, but I see at least half of this class making an immediate impact, but I doubt any of them are starters, but if I am picking 1 or two I will go with Trey Johnson and Baugh at H back in week 3-4.
I honestly think I'm most intrigued by Tyquan Lewis.
He's bringing a unique set of skills to C Bus. I'm not saying he's going to get PT as a freshman. I just like what he has to offer.
Maybe the next J Peppers or Kearse....?
