Not so fast..... there is one constant in all of this and it's Luke. He learned under Heacock and was molded somewhat by Tressel. This is why it's good for young coaches to move around and study under different coaches/philosphies. Another part of this is Fickell has been our main recruiter..... sure he's landed some big recruits but where are the results ? These highly touted recruits can't hold AJ Hawks jockstrap.
I was a huge supporter of Fickell. I wanted Tressel to give him the reigns over the D and get rid of Heacock ! I see now that it wouldn't have made a difference. Luke only knows this style of defense, it's all he's been exposed to. I think Fickell could be a great coach some day but I truly believe that he needs to break away from Ohio State for a few years and hopefully come back maybe when Urban retires.
Brady Hoke licked the pizza boy's taint to get the scUM job.
He started Storm Klein. If Grant was gaining any confidence it's gone now.
Got me!!! You're 100% right!!! I want Fick fired because I got down voted voicing my dislike 1 1/2 years ago...good catch.
It's sooooo funny Indy how just 12 months ago most on here wanted to keep him for HC. Now we are trying to get rid of him after 4 games. How tides turn.
I just don't know right now Indy, I know where you stand on Luke, but I am am 50/50 right now on him. I just want to see if this defense improves, but if doesn't against the B1G, then it might be 90/10 by Wisky game.
Chu...it's mind boggling. The amount of people that were clamoring for Fick the Ohio Guy to become HC some day without even attaining a Coordinators job or accomplishing anything blew me away. It was a knock-down drag out in this forum a year + ago, and it still astounds me that people were so in his corner without him ever having built a resume. Whatever, now it's hilarious seeing "Fire Fick" threads pop up here.
I just don't get it with Fick, he's learning on the job which is marginal at best right now and I'd rather have seen a killer in the position. However, I do understand the turmoil surrounding the Tress/tatoo matter and the desire to have one of "our own" take the reigns while we searched for a coach with a resume. He was put in a no-win situation, everybody understands that, and that's why his exit will be crafted with class. He needs to perfect his craft at a small college and learn the ropes like everyone else, maybe he'll do great, maybe he'll not, but he needs the opportunity to prove himself in the proper setting.
Never a dull moment with OSU football!!!
Yes probably, sounds like a real positive attitude throughout the whole blog?!?!
I definately feel the buckeye love throughout the post!
Urban told you when he was hired, that coaches would be evaluated after each season.
You may see the DO from LSU up here in by January.
No to bash the kid, cuz he hasnt played much, but grant was easily the most under achieving LB out there. That's a statement since Sabino was out there too!
We were lied to last week. Going into that game we we'd told Perry and Camren would get meaning snaps at LB, by Urban. Where were they? Crowell only got in when sabino lost his helmet.
Don't hate on Storm cuz grant is lost.
Marcus or Perkins or someone else needs to play at LB.
"Any board that would ban 3yds is worthless"
Sure would like to see some of those old threads and who thought Fickell should be the guy. Anyone bookmark any of those? Or any Boom Herron starring in the NFL threads??
If we had a search function here (that most BASIC message board programs come with) they wouldn't be hard to find.
+1 One of these days maybe 247 will upgrade their boards to the 21st century. Maybe then we'll get HTML, polls, merged threads, and a search feature...but I'm not holding my breath.
I am there with you, of course everybody thinks because I wanted Bollman gone and I have it out for Fickell now.

Jimmy, here is some stats for you.
In 2011 they were 6th in the Big Ten and 27th nationally and 5th in the Big Ten and 33rd nationally so far this year, with a cupcake schedule. The only thing Luke has going for him is the Big Ten is awful so maybe he moves up. The bottom line is Luke could not hold Heacock's jock strap.

Look, I said this in another thread, Fickell: Great Buckeye, bad coordinator! PERIOD!! 3 and 16 you play Cover 3, 10 yards off the wide outs (UAB's wide outs mind you), drop 8 into coverage sending just 3? Did I miss something? As a d-coordinator myself, I want the ball out of the qb's hands as fast as possible. The longer he has, the greater the chances of him completing a pass and in this case, a longer 18 yard throw for a first down! Just don't get his thought process. He plays to not lose instead of playing to win! I would be damned if I will sit back and let a team beat me. If a team beats me and we're going all out on every play, so be it! I’m going down with my guns a blazing!!!! The offense has an excuse, completely new offense having to be learned as they go. So far, about where I thought they would be. Defensively, inexcusable! We're running EXCATLY the same D as years past with a couple new wrinkles. I think Fickell lacks an imagination. Same blitz, coverage, everything. Teams know what we’re doing before we even know what we’re doing. PREDICTABILITY!!! Bollman Jr.????
Come on, JW! I agree with you. Heacock was awesome.
The criticism earlier in the thread was that Fickell was using the same "bend but don't break" lack of aggressive defense that Dantonio and Heacock used before him. Apparently, you don't agree with that.
BTW, Luke served as co-defensive coordinator at OSU from 2005-2011. While you give all the credit for successful 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010 to Heacock, Luke obviously played a big part and was highly thought of by Jim Tressel, and now Urban Meyer.
Interesting that we both cite stats from 2011 that are different. Mine were from Lindy's Preseason football magazine. Where'd you get 27th nationally for 2011? Lindy's said 19th.
I got mine at Rivals. I thought that Heacock attacked alot but at times he got criticized forplaying conservative but let's remember that Tressel put so much pressure on the defense with his unimaginative offense gameplans and I got the lead "let's sit on it philsophy". If you combine Urbans attack mentality on offense with Heacock's defense you would have a team that would be tough to beat.
Jim Tressel had the good old boys network when it came to coaching so I don't put too muck stock into the "highly thought of"comment, besides recently his staff was terrible especially on offense.
Just saw this comment on the O-Zone:
Meyer also alarmed by the fact Ohio State is dead-last in the Big Ten in defense right now. "That has to change real fast
