their offense just got a lot more potent. green's definitely a classic big 10 tailback. but like richrod, hoke's proving to be great at recruiting offense but he seems to be neglecting his defense. he's almost the antithesis of meyer, who's pulling out the stops making defense a priority.
i have a feeling the irresistible force is about to meet the immovable object...again.
Urban did the same while he was at Florida. He always made recruiting fast, strong athletic defense his priority. Why? Because to win it all you have to keep your opponent off the score board.
or take your chances winning this kind of scorefest: 2010 michigan 67 iIllinois 65 in 3ot.
the scores of their 2 bball games that year were 54-52 and 60-55.
While the I'm glad the Indiana game ended up being a win for us...and contributed to our undefeated season....
Truthfully....the way our defense played it was a huge embarrassment to tell you the truth.
At least that's how I felt about it.
That's a game I would never brag about!
Green is going to be a problem for us.
"The only thing That Team Up North will be tasting this year is the salty tears of defeat" - UFM
That's exactly what I said on a question posted on the recruiting board.
The question: is not going after and getting Green going to come back and bite us?
My response was yes and no.
No in the sense that we have great depth at RB with Hyde, Smith, Dunn, Ball and now Elliot.....but
Yes in the sense that he is now in the B1G and lining up on the other side of the ball at the end of our schedule in November.
Ya, it's too bad he went to Michigan. I wish he had gone to another conference, but oh well. The games we win while he is there will simply be that much more meaningful.
I think this past season was a classic example of how the whole (12-0!) was greater than the sum of its parts (squeakers against Cal, MSU, Purdue and Wisconsin), the 52-49 scoring slugfest against Indiana, sluggish performances against UCF, UAB, beating Michigan but only by 5 at home (after we'd mocked them for beating us by only 6 at their place in 2011).
The overall body of work wasn't pretty but we still won every game and that's what counts. The football gods smiled on the Buckeyes this year, which is small consolation for being on probation.
This now puts scUM at 27 Verbals. Don't they need written permission from the B1G to go over 25? Just curious, does anybody know if they obtained that? And what hoops do you have to jump through to obtain that permission from the B1G. Is it pretty much "ask and you shall receive"? Or is there more to it than that?
No. You can backdate 3 of them to the prior class...we actually have 6 early entries, last I checked. With three back dated, that means we can go to 28 (25 + 3).
Very very true.
I'd hardly call that dominating your schedule let alone your conference.
While the schedule this year is very favorable to possibly repeat last season.....those odds are much less favorable!
On the road at Cal should be a win....but it is 3 time zones away which has a very funny effect on travelling teams.
We've never had much trouble with Northwestern.....but we haven't played them when they are up and right now they are up. IMO definitely not a gimmie....that could be an upset.
On the road at Purdue.....and as usual it should be an easy win for the Buckeyes. But as history has shown it never ever is an easy win....at least it hasn't been for the better part of a decade.
On the road at TSUN.....I think you covered that in your post.
Its not our fault. Greene does not fit in the mold of what new offensive direction is going. I was hoping another school would win Green's talents. Green is one of the best power backs in the country and with Hoke's little offensive line haul in recruiting, its going to be a hell of a fight.
