Another glaring example of Matta's outstanding end-of-game coaching ability. What a joke!
Again, Thad can recruit and motivate....his bench coaching is not up to the other facets of his coaching. I just watched the play 5 times. I have no idea what we were even trying to run there. Hopefully Thad will explain to us what the play was. We fought hard and had a chance at the end, which is all you can really ask for on the road against Sparty. Obviously we need a consistant second scorer. Again, Ross played well in the first half but gets no meaningful minutes in the second half. Hopefully they have a plan for Ross and it includes bringing him along on slowly. We know he has defensive deficiencies and turns it over too much but he can put the ball in the basket.

that shot was for sure on shannon scott having no idea how much time was left. absolutely terrible
Why in the hell was Scott handling the ball?
Give the ball to Craft- who has a brain.
Either Thomas, Ross or Smith should have taken the last shot- how hard is it for a coach to draw up a play for 1 of those shooters?
agreed but watch the replay....what were we trying to do? there was nothing going on. Thad has done a great job and taken the program to an elite level but to not recognize that he is not one of the better in game coaches is just not being realistic. In no means do I want him gone but I would like to see him improve on game days.
They are a pretty good team for a team with no big men and 1 shooter
we are defensive first team....similar to the Pistons of the late 80's. not fun basketball to watch. we need a second scorer. I know there are things that Ross does not do well (defense, turnovers) but he does put it in the basket and he needs to be on the floor at least 20 minutes per game.
we score 56 in a win versus scUM and get 56 again tonight versus Sparty....and Thomas gets half of the 56. Craft is not a scorer, Scott, Williams, Ravenel, Smith, Thompson, etc. are not guys that can consistantly put the ball in the basketball. Ross has shown that he can score the ball. He needs more time. Again, maybe the staff is bringing him along slowly. Looks like he could be fragile mentally and they don't want to put him in tough spots. However, you have to push him out of the nest and at least in my opinion he needs more time and quite frankly I think he deserves it.
Actually the play was set up pretty well if you watch it. They had thomas set up well for a trail up 3 which was open had scott kicked the ball back.Theres not too much you can call in a situation where you have to go the length of the floor in 7 seconds down 3 so pushing the ball up with scott and using your best shooter as a trail man is not a bad option. Just a horrible decision on scotts part.
Who cares the gum tastes great
listening to thad's post game interview...scott didn't run the play...thad doesn't know why he didn't...
I'm sure that just what Thad drew up. They were standing around because scott went to the wing and blew the play up.
Oh and one more piece of logic for you. Ross isn't strong and would of been man handled in the post. It wouldn't of came down to a last second shot.
This team has some shooters but no one fears our post play. If we had post scoring Ross could be played more and draw mismatches on the outside.

I just feel bad for Thomas. Kid carried the team and nobody helped him. Ridiculous.
They helped him by getting him the ball. If they box out on defense osu wins this.
Push the ball up? Eight seconds is plenty of time to get the ball up court and make a couple of picks. Matta cannot coach his way out of a wet toilet paper bag at the end of a game. He is horrendous!
Yeah push the ball up, the quicker you get the ball up the floor the more opportunity it leaves for an offensive rebound, it was actually a good look with Thomas trailing just didnt execute it. If scott flips that ball back after drawing the defender then Thomas gets a look at the 3 and thats all you can ask for in that situation.
Can't beleive this team is loaded with McDonald All-Americans and we only have one guy that can shoot the ball. Need better analysis with recruiting.
It's seems Matta's recruiting style is to recruit athletes over shooting skills. IMO he needs to tweak recruiting a bit and instead of signing so many athletic wing types...every couple classes recruit a player who's strength is shooting...
said it last year ill say it this year: thank you so much thad matta for everything you have done. but gene smith, please make an offer to brad stevens he cant refuse. dude is 37 and hands down the best x's and o's coach in all of the game. it honestly isnt even close
I haven't seen every game this year but this game had to be one of Crafts worse ones, I know he had 5 steals but how many turnovers did he have? Still would not trade for any other guard but just sayin?
He still cant shoot either ... But what about thads gum .. He was showing great.consistency by chewing tough the entire.game
He's no Terry Francona
...or better player development
Are you Matta's mother?
