I'll believe Dunn's flipped when I see it. He's had plenty of chances to flip before. Give him credit for waiting to see how things work out before bailing, unlike Kalis who jumped ship the first chance he got. But the truth is, Meyer has never had a 1,000 yard rusher. That's not to say he won't at OSU but if history is any indicator, his track record doesn't bode well for recruits like Dunn who are looking to tote the rock as much as Tressel used have his #1 RBs do. The closest Meyer's had to anyone running for that many yards was Tebow, which means Braxton Miller is likely to be our #1 rusher the next three years. Meanwhile, TSUN has Robinson for one more year and then it's Shane Morris, who's more suited for Hoke's pro style, which means a more conventional/balanced rush/pass attack, which is similar to what Tressel ran. I can see where that kind of scheme would be attractive to a back like Dunn. If Ball can stay healthy plus Rod Smith, Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, we'll be okay. If anything, our backs may be too big for Meyer's spread, which relies more on speed and shiftiness than size and power. I'd be willing to trade Dunn for two smaller backs who can get out in space and spread the field.
Michigan's up to 24 recruits. They just got a commitment from Iowa's #1 kid, a 6-3/200 WR, who I had the opportunity to watch live twice this year. He was at The Game and was quoted in our local paper as saying the energy was unbelievable and the thought of playing in front of a packed Big House was too much for him to say no to.

Dunn's no longer a good match for OSU's offense. I wouldn't get my undies in a knot about it. He has no responsibility to OSU or their fans, his responsibility is to himself and his family. The kid has to pick the system that will give him the best chance to show his stuff, and that's not the spread. Time for both to move on, rather than acting like a psychotic ex-girlfriend.

Michigan University is going to be running probably as much if not more of the spread the next 2 maybe 3 years than we are. We have to very good big backs on our roster as long as one gits over his fumbling problems. Meyer is not going to waste that talent. Robinson has showed the inability to operate in a pro style offense. Gardener is another dual threat QB on their roster better suited for the spread as well. Dunn should take a look at the roster and not believe what comes out of Hokies mouth. To be honest MSU would be a much better fit for him than MU.

Nice insights.
I think that it's more indicative of Florida than it is Meyer having a 1000 yard rusher. Florida has only had a total of 7 in it's history....and since 2000...they've only had 1. Their most notable back was Emmit Smith.
We, on the other hand, have had about seven 1,000 yard rushers in a decade and a half....and since 2002...in a nine year span we've had 4 1,000 yard rushers and a 5th if you consider Pittman did it 2 years in a row.
Maybe location and school reputation/history has something to do with it more than it has to do with Urban Meyer. But I could be wrong.
Meyer wanted an every down back in his line up but had trouble getting/finding one. He had that kid transfer from USC who he was hoping would be the bell cow but it never worked out that way.

I agree with most of your post here except Brax can't take the pounding Tebow did and Brax is a much better passer.....so Dunn would be the bell cow, and Urban can find ways to use him...to stop the bleeding north, Urban puts a stop to the nonsense of michigan university being a better fit...as they are way more spread than we are Dunn will get all the carries he wants and will get hurt for some period of time also....keeping the backs fresh, especially as the year wears on, is crucial....IMO>

I don't care about Brady Hoke. He's not the head FB coach of The Ohio State University and until he coaches a down for us, his stats and system mean absolutely nothing in this discussion. The fact of the matter remains: Urban Meyer never had a 1,000 yard rusher at BG, Utah or Florida. One thing I always thought Tressel excelled at was building his plan around his personnel. When Zwick was the starting QB, it was dropback, pro-set; when he got injured against Iowa in 2004, it became apparent that Troy Smith couldn't be that kind of QB. Tressel adapted his gameplan in mid-season and the Buckeyes went on a tear. But it wasn't just Smith--the last half of the season was also Ted Ginn Jr's coming out party. Two years later, Smith had a Heisman and we were in the NC game against Urban and the Gators. I am hoping that Meyer will take a page from his predecessor's book, look at his roster, appreciate the depth and versability of his RB corps and run everything from the power I (classic OSU), spread (Florida), veer/triple option (GT, Navy, AF), wishbone (Oklahoma), a little something for everyone and keep the opposition guessing. Imagine Miller running the triple option with Rod Smith at FB and Hyde, Dunn, Ball and Hall rotating at HB, every one of them a threat to take it to the house. There's only one football all that talent has to share and the more they're all on the field, the happier they'll be and the better we'll be.

braxton is NOT a better passer than tebow, not yet at least. can we please stop giving unfair comparisons to brax? he's not troy smith, he's not tim tebow, he's not terrelle pryor. let the kid build his own legacy. so unfair to compare him to maybe the greatest college football player ever

Are you kidding me? Did you ever see Tebow's freshman year? He barely passed and Brax's numbers are way better and his completion % in our anemic offense is better....simply stating Brax is way ahead of TT at this stage...Brax has a huge upside and excellent mechanics, unlike TT in the NFL>

Iowa,
Meyer can make adjustments. You will see him maximize the talent he has, including different formations. You will see the I formation as well as the spread. I have never seen him run the wishbone, but if he thinks it will put up points I am sure he will make the appropriate adjustments. He has run a number of different option formations and plays at all three of the teams he was HC, so he obviously doesn't have a problem incorporating options into his playbook.
I don't know much about Utah, but I know a lot about BG. He came into a mess and worked with what he had. He made the adjustments as he recruited the kids he needed to run a style he wanted. The man can coach and that includes putting his players in the best possible position and utilizing his talent.
In summary..the man can coach!!!
I think it is pretty obvious he did this in Florida, so I don't feel the need to comment on his time there.

mabbucknut: I think that's what I said--he'll look at the roster, appreciate the bounty he's inherited, find ways to maximize the talent and depth, and diversify the offensive schemes to keep defenses off-balance. We may have the QB to run the spread but we may not have the WRs--the most catches anyone had this year was 14. Philly Brown dropped as many as he caught. But we've got a boatload of RBs, and big RBs at that, which is not the kind of back Meyer's spread has generally relied on. Our RBs came to OSU to carry the rock for Tressel yet in Meyer's offense, the QB is more likely to be the team's leading rusher. I think Meyer will need to find a way to work with the great talent he's inherited but that also might not be a perfect fit for his ideal offense. That's what Tressel did well--he structured his gameplan around his talent, not forced his talent to fit his game plan. And that's what great coaches do. Chris Leak was Meyer's QB his first year at Florida. He only ran for 81 yards. Meyer worked with what he'd inherited, even if it didn't fit his system, and went 9-3. The next year, which was Tebow's FR year, they won the NC and Tebow's running was the biggest difference. Conversely, RichRod was just the opposite--he was bound and determined to force the dropback passers Lloyd Carr had left him into running the spread.
What I'm not sure of is are you agreeing with me or disagreeing with me? If sounds like you were agreeing with me and yet it also sounds like you were taking issue with what I said.

If he wants to go to michicken, then he should go. He might wanna ask Mike Hart what it feels like to beat the Buckeyes during a time when michicken was pretty good....oh wait...I guess Mike Hart never played on a michicken team that beat the Buckeyes...nevermind.
