Details Of OSU’s Response To NCAA

The Buckeyes are hoping their self-imposed penalties -- which do not include a postseason bad -- will be enough for the NCAA.

  • It will be interesting to see how this all plays out..all this waiting is killing me though.

  • So why vacate the Sugar Bowl. The players were deemed eligible by the NCAA at that point.

    Layne1990

  • Not that it is a huge deal but why forfeit the Sugar Bowl the NCAA approved the players for that game

  • The NCAA approved those players before they knew the extent of the violations. The Tressel emails hadn't yet become a story in December.

In all likelihood to help avoid a bowl-ban for this year. This way the NCAA can't say "well fine, we'll let you keep your Sugar Bowl win from the 2010 season, but you're not playing in the post-season after the 2011 regular season"-- know what I mean?

Who cares anyway -- the whole country knows who won.

  • I think the NCAA will ban us from a bowl this year also but hopefully that will be it.

That would be over-the-top IMO. But very possible considering the NCAA's past consistency (or lack thereof) with infractions punishments. One thing is for sure, the national media would be happy as could be if you are correct.

  • Does vacating the Sugar Bowl win also mean the $$$$ tOSU received goes back to the NCAA as well?

  • Does this technically mean our streak against scUM is ended? (in the record books anyway, we all know who won)

    If so, that sucks. type_angry

  • I can accept that. Move on, please let's move on!

it still stands in a way....it means Michigan still has not beaten us in XX years.

  • If there is a self-imposed two year probation that doesn't include a bowl ban, what does it include? Loss of schollys?

  • Now someone with some balls needs to step up and begin a VIGOROUS campaign to promote how everything we have self imposed is enough and that ANYTHING further would be unfair. I doubt Gene Smith has the set necessary to do this. Its time to go into advocacy mode and Gene Smith is only a punching bag...he never swings. Let's look at it, the mess hit the fan and in short order 1) players were suspended, 2) Tressel gone, 3) Pryor gone, and 4) wins vacated. We literally cleaned house. Enough is Enough though. Anything more is piling on. And the point of emphasis for our going forward campaign should be this "we self reported, fully cooperated, and severly self-disciplined...we are the model of how the NCAA should WANT schools to handle these situations...and so if the NCAA dings us after we self-reported and took all the measures WHAT INCENTIVE will ANY school EVER have to self-report or cooperate in the future"? You ding OSU after all we've done and its floodgates. NO ONE will self report ever again.

The question that will be raised: Are these punishments harsh enough?

No, just reduced I would think. It's as if the 2010 game never happened, so instead of winning 7 in a row, we've only won 6 in a row in terms of the official record books.

Probation just means you're "on notice" so-to-speak. One screw up and a skyscraper-sized sledgehammer is brought down on you.

  • I thnk the NCAA has to ban us from post season play this upcoming year. Their worst nightmare is that our players band together, win all their games, including the Championship, then proudly proclaim that they are dedicating this win to Coach Jim Tressell. That's only OK if your violations have been approved by the NCAA, al a Auburn.

Didn't Michigan beat your hurricanes in 1984?

  • My question who is the new player that has not yet been named. On page 1-7 it lists all the players involved and what they sold and received. There are 8 players on the list. Player number 5 is Terrelle Pryor and Player number 8 i believe is Jermil Martin and player 7 is Jordan Whiting who is sitting out the first game. I know by looking up previous articles we can identify players 1,3,4 and 6 from Posey, Thomas, Herron and Adams but player 2 is the new unknown. This goes with what the lawyer said that 8/9 accused in the SI article were falsely accused. Shows he received 12 tattoos.

    Anyone know who this is?

No, we beat those Canes at the Fiesta Bowl to win the national title. I know, because I was there.

Nope, we'll all just have to continue to play the waiting game.
