For those who complain the media is only out to get OSU

  • I know we have plenty people who think the media is out to get us (not true), go to SI.com tomorrow morning for a very good story on UCLA basketball and drug use.

Odan, you may be right that the media is may not consciously be out to get Ohio State but the way that they pound on OSU's faults (Tat-gate, Troy Smith in 04, and Clarett) it certainly seems like it. Especially when you consider that they glossed over the whole Cam Newton thing.

#1) Espn has a TV contract with the SEC so they are not going to make their own cash cow look bad in any way to reduce ratings.

#2) They aren't out to get TOSU, it's just that bad news at TOSU sells, it gets viewers, viewers = ratings, ratings = money.

#3) Our conference does it also, how much news (good or bad) about other conferences do you see on the B1G network?

#4) The Cam Newton thing, it was brushed away so quickly because there was a loop hole in NCAA rules at the time that made what Cam's dad did not illegal. I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA went to ESPN asking them not to publicize it unti l they had fixed the loop hole (which they have now done). This one was egg in the face of the NCAA lawyers, Cam and his Dad just found that loop hole and exploited it.

That being said most people need to take a step away from the sun, take a deep breathe, and cool down to make logical posts on here.

Exactly, anyone who thinks that ESPN would not protect their own product is a fool. ESPN is in buisness to make money and will protect their investment - just as you and I would.

Money makes the world go round - if ESPN owned the B1G it would be the other way around.

I'm glad someone understands it. Great comments.

  • Poor attempt at an analogy. Apples and oranges.

Will SI print a bunch of outright lies and refuse to retract them on UCLA?

Until that happens the two situations have absolutely nothing in common.

It is the same writer, Dorkman, that flat out lied on OSU. Everything he published turned out to be wrong, he only interviewed guys in jail and kids that were kicked off the team. The result was 1 more guy was involved in Tat-gate. It was embarressing journalism. I feel bad for UCLA, The way this guy embellishes his stories they might be in trouble. I'm not going to believe it until I hear both sides of the story. He has no credibility.

  • Why fall for this. He's not going to make me look "hsiloof" by hiding his name in a new account.

We all know you are an OSU hater and therefore an "NPSE" lover.

......I wonder if this breezy weather will spawn an odanrot?

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

lol...Dorkman. I had sorta forgot about that clown. Agree on UCLA -- if Dorkman is writing the article you can't take anything out of it for anything close to a fact. Best case scenario is that it's a "guess", and probably not even an educated one after reading his article on Ohio State / Tressel. Dorkman devalues the Pulitzer, and as long as he is employed by SI, none of their articles will hold any semblance of credibility with me.

Not so sure if #4 isn't extortion if they could prove it.

My vote would be for the latter if we are taking a poll. :)

Talbert, if bad news of TOSU does sell and brings in ratings than by virtue of what the media does they are unconsciously out to get TOSU. It may not be a conscious effort where they say hey lets submarine Ohio State, but in the end that is what they are trying to do in the name of ratings.
