I had a great experience this past Friday

  • at work.I have been blessed and privileged in getting a good education in the Air Force and at The Greatest College in the World. I have worked in the medical field for 26 years and have met some great people over the years (people in general, athletes, pilots, celebs, authors, etc). This past Friday I met a patient and I have to say without doubt I will remember this gentleman for the rest of my life.

I was working with a patient (whom I will call Tim). He was very kind and very smart. He asked me where I was from to which I responded Ohio. With a smile and a grin he asked if I was a Buckeye. I turned around and looked at him and he laughed saying ok ok. He started to chuckle saying, I think everyone there is,hell it seems like half the nation is for that matter. He told me he played for the University of Washington quite a few years ago. He told me he played middle linebacker and loved to hit people. He later went on to play as a pro. As I walked him back to the waiting room we continued to talk (IT WAS INTERESTING BECAUSE OUR WAITING ROOM WAS FULL). He told me about when they played The Ohio State University and how great our fans were as well as the band. What a venue he said. As our team walked out on to the playing field we looked up, up and up further to which he said, what the hell have we got ourselves into?. He said it was ELECTRIC, HIGH ENERGY, SIMPLY AMAZING. It was deafening and most intimidating. He said by far it was the most exciting place he ever played. He also told me after playing there how he wished Ohio State would have extended him an offer.

He wouldn't stop talking (which I had no problem with). He said how respectful the fans were to the players, their friends and family. He joked about his dad saying that is not the place to go if you have a weak heart ( great intensity). After the game the team took a little tour of the campus and he said how amazing it was to see all of the trophies, the history and those who helped to build a legacy. He said he would always be a Husky but from that point on he was also a Buckeye. He loved the hire of Urban Meyer, he loved the NCG when we put it to Miami and felt the NCAA screwed us out of a coach and unnecessary sanctions. He said every school is doing what our players did, they just haven't been caught. He told me how he was paid $10 hr to go pick up seaweed in the stadium. I couldn't help but laugh. Finally someone who was honest , I thought to myself

Just before he left several patients started talking to us about Ohio State. One of the patients said Im a Buckeye too ( holding his hands together showing the Bock O). Then a patients from an SEC school started talking about his team (OleMiss) and how great their conference was, to which my patient Tim told him it ain't even on the same map as Ohio State and we weren't talking about the conferences.. As he was about to leave a couple was sitting waiting to be seen when the wife asked Tim if he played for Ohio State, to which he responded one can only wish. She then whispered to her husband, we have to watch these guys.
Tim said goodbye with a Go Buckcs!!
    It made my weekend Bucknutters!!!

  • Great story. No matter how many times I'm at the school, it's like a piece of nostalgic history. The ramp entrance gets me chocked up every time. Everything about the day is special and to be cherished.

I get a lot of people down here talking about the Buckeyes. I have a Block O tattoo on my right arm. It gets a lot of attention which I honestly love.

  • Nice story THEnb! Here is a quick one back................Went to the Dominican on vacation a few years back.......................I got sick of people holding all the good chairs, and I was always the first one up, so I started saving chairs by the pool with tOSU towels. A few days in I hear O H from a screaming maniac that looked like Beanie Wells. I yell back I O and go over and talk to the guy. We had a few beers together throughout the vacation. He was from New York. I also met a few more tOSU fans on vacation, one was from Tennesee. There is alot of HATE in the media and on the net..............There is alot of love out there in the real world.

Great story Chad. Like others have said, I love hearing the stories. There is no doubt in my mind if everyone sent in their experiences a huge book could be written......hmmm
