Is (PSU) O'Brien running for office?

  • The Nittany Lions' new leader is embarking on a nine-day, 18-stop bus tour spread out over the next three weeks. It's an extensive meet-and-greet road trip through seven states with an itinerary that might make a presidential candidate blush.

  • from the article...
Other issues may also be at play.

Whether or not by design, many stops on the trip are also fertile territory for Penn State recruiting. The caravan on Tuesday pulls into Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and Richmond, Va., on Wednesday a region where the Nittany Lions have long drawn talent. O'Brien on May 10, goes to Hartford, Conn. a state from which Penn State recruited top tailback Silas Redd and promising linebacker Khairi Fortt.

Maybe I'm just blinded by my hatred for PSU, but I don't get this.

    What will he be driving.....

  • Wow. Maybe its just me but I would think there would be a whole lot of more important things to do besides having a long extended bus ride.

  • Penn State has a real issue with its image as of now. I’m mean, what are the first things to come to mind when thinking about Penn State; Joe Pa and the child molester, Jerry Sandusky. This is very sad for the University.

What a maroon...this state (CT) is a waste for football. Hockey yes...football not so much. Glad too see that he's off and running to waste PeeSU's travel budget.

Dude you are crazy as hell! This truck image made me fall off the couch in laughter! clap

No, but seriously. I get it. I know what Dude is doing and given the drama a PSU he's trying to get ahead of the game. PSU is STRONG here in Maryland and throughout the Mid-Atlantic States. For years they have had their pick of most recruits by having guys like Coach Johnson with strong connections to the Maryland HS coaches and it has paid dividends all up and down the coast, as well as into Wash DC.

This connection has damn near put Randy Edsall at Maryland out of job. So what I think is happening is that O'Brien is going to wear his championship rings, get out on the road and go reassure the masses via meet and greet that PSU is okay. This will help him, which is why I think it is mostly PR (public relations) related. Its a good move IMO!

We've got very good football here in Maryland, but also in NC, Wash DC, and NJ. O'Brien is trying to get out there a lay claim to the recruiting networks and build relationships with schools/ programs that matter.

I think it is a very smart move on his part.

  • Imagine what his barnstorming would've been like had the Patriots won the Super Bowl. He would've been flashing the Super Bowl ring to all prospective recruits hoping to lure them to State College.
