JaJuan Story transferring from UF

  • He was a 4* out of HS and was red shirt frosh last year. Any chance he come to OSU?

  • If he is really good it may be better for him to go down a class and play right away. Then he could turn pro after his red shirt soph year. At tOSU he'd have to sit another year. That said I recall it was right down to the wire (regarding his recruitment and the bucks) with him

  • We were in the mix back then. He visited us on 1/7/11, the weekend before he took his official to Florida. But he had verbally committed in June 2010 when Urban was still the HC. We need WRs and he's a big one at 6-3/206. He's had his redshirt year so wherever he goes, he probably will only have 2-3 years to play. Maybe another year off will give him more time to make the transition to WR and adjust to Urban's offense. Still, do we want another Dionte Allen, who was highly rated 4-star out of HS who failed at FSU and transferred to OSU his senior year only to sit on the bench?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Redshirt freshman wide receiver Ja'Juan Story is transferring, Florida announced Friday morning.

The 6-foot-3, 206-pounder was a four-star recruit and the No. 6 receiver in ESPN's rankings when he signed with the Gators in 2011 out of Brooksville, Fla./Nature Coast Technical. He never saw the field and told UF coach Will Muschamp on Thursday afternoon that he wanted to leave the program.

"I had a great experience here and met a bunch of great people," Story said. "It is a great football program with great players and coaches. It just wasn't the right fit for me."

Story played quarterback and receiver in high school and struggled with the transition of becoming a full-time receiver.

  • Sure we have a shot, although I read on another board earlier where someone posted some tweets indicating that Ohio State may not have room. Would love to land him if they could fit him in though.

Good point. Incidentally, how confident are you in Zach Smith's ability to develop WRs?

  • We're not interested because we'd rather use the scholarship for the 2013 class.

To be honest, and I've said it before, not that much. He's the least experienced of all our coaches with only two years as a full-time assistant, one year at Marshall and one at Temple, neither of which is a BCS school. I am 100% banking on Urban's faith in him as I'd hate to think that if Urban's saying legacies don't get special consideration he'd turn around and throw his mentor, Earle Bruce, a bone by hiring his grandson. As my sig says, I'm trusting Urban.

That doesn't change the fact that WR is, per Urban's own diagnosis, our weakest position and it concerns me that a unit we really need to step up and play beyond their years is being led by a guy who needs to do the same.

We have 78 on scholarship now so I'd think he could take one of the four open slots. Still, per CavsFan's comment, that would deduct one from our 2013 class. We have plenty of bodies at WR. They just need to step up an account for themselves.

He also played QB and safety in HS and was labeled an athlete and projected at WR. Maybe he can cut it as a 6-3/206 safety?

I don't think he could cut it at safety. He was recruited as a pure WR. He left because he was buried on the depth chart. He'll probably going to USF, UCF, or one of those Florida schools.
