ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan safety Josh Furman, who was acquitted of three misdemeanor charges in Michigan's 15th District Court last week, has been reinstated to the football team, the school said in a release today.

Furman was found not guilty of domestic violence, assault and illegal entry charges Thursday in front of judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines.

"After allowing the judicial process to run its course and evaluating the situation, we have reinstated Josh as a member of our team," Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. "We met multiple times over the past few months and Josh understands the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the University of Michigan.

"It is our job to make sure he continues to grow and mature off the field as well as on the field."

Furman, a redshirt sophomore, was a special teams contributor last season as one of Michigan's top gunners on punt coverage. He was expected to compete for a spot in the two-deep at safety this spring, but was suspended.

He is expected to compete for a slot behind starting safeties Thomas Gordon and Jordan Kovacs this fall.
