Mewhort arrested too. The latest from The Dispatch.

  • This is as bad as it gets. It may be curtains for these two.

Two Ohio State football players were arrested by Shawnee Hills police and charged with a misdemeanor of obstructing official business yesterday near Muirfield Village Golf Club, site of the Memorial Tournament.

Tight end Jake Stoneburner and left tackle Jack Mewhort, along with Austin Barnard — who is not connected to the football team — were released after each posted a $2,000 bond at the Delaware County jail, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The three are believed to have been seen urinating between buildings in the vicinity of the Bogey Inn. WBNS-TV (Channel 10) reported that they ran when confronted by the police.

Stoneburner and Mewhort were found crouching between cars on a parking lot used for the Memorial, but Barnard had to be coaxed out of hiding by the threat of releasing a police dog.

A Stoneburner family source told The Dispatch that the incident occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday. The sheriff’s office report says Stoneburner was arrested at 9 a.m. and released at 10:45.

An athletic department spokesman said coach Urban Meyer was aware of the situation but wouldn’t have a comment until further details were gathered.

Stoneburner, whose family’s home is off the fifth fairway at Muirfield Village, will be a senior this season and is considered an integral part of Meyer’s new offense.

Mewhort, a junior from Toledo, switched from right guard, where he started last season, to left tackle.

  • Sorry, don't agree. Adolescent hi-jinx really, like TP someone's house. They were probably too far into their cups. Extra push-ups.

i think he means this is not a big deal....like, this is it???

  • Sorry if I missed the irony. Hard to tell on these boards sometimes. If you had included J. Smith you might've come up with the apocalypse.

  • This isn't close to as bad as it gets, but this sure isn't what we need our upperclassmen to be doing. There are freaking bathrooms all over the U.S., and these guys need to have more sense.

    Zeuslerus

  • I would still kick them off the team.....how incredibly stupid are you? I made it all through life without being arrested. You know the recent history of this team and you can't stay out of trouble....really?

  • Not good but if thats the worst thing the ever do no big deal ( like dcrig said about like tpeeing)peace

  • Sucks for Meyer having to now determine how to handle their stupidity. Expected to be bigtime contributors this year.

    Razorback

  • I'd make them do some extra laps for failing to find a better hiding spot. What a joke this is.

  • Not a big deal at all legally, but not what we are looking for leadership-wise.

  • Don't any of you people understand sarcasm? Urinating in public? Who the hell hasn't done that?

  • Maybe someone told them there was a scUM fan on the ground and they were just responding.
On a serious side I do think they might get a few splinters in the a$$es before all is said and done. Urban has to make a statement and make it now so it doesn't get out of hand.

The sarcasm was lost on me too OSU>UM.

I don't understand that one gets arrested for urinating in public. I can understand a ticket or fine but arrested?

Sounds like extra push ups and more PR work for the AD.

  • My bad dude! Might consider a sarcasm emotican next time. The way espn would take this and make it national news as if OSU is the worst school ever, I hope you can see how I can think you'd really think it to be true (the statement about as bad as it gets)

Got arrested in Massillon for urinating in public behind a bar. Female officer did not like me asking her if she wanted to help. Ah to be young and dumb.

  • Watch how the haters will try to spin this as something bigger than it really is. Everyone's found a spot to pee out in the public somewhere. Complete non story as usual

    Ohioz Finezt

  • if tyrann mathieu smoking dope gets a game, i would say writing "i will not pee in public" 50 times should do the trick.

i understand where the program is and how careful we need to be, but that's more for our admin, boosters, ncaa rules etc... kids are still going to f up. the problem is.....everyone will now be watching what meyer does and how these kids are reprimanded. any notion of letting these guys off easy will be taken as "osu hasn't learned" and "what kind of program are they running there".

    boomboom

  • They're guilty of public intoxication, indecency and obstruction of justice because they ran away and hid. Getting drunk resulted in all the other offenses. They'll plead stupidity--two oversized dumbasses with full bladders whipping out their wieners to piss on the side of a building. Yawn. Not excusing it but it's a victimless crime. No one was hurt. No property was damaged. No one was driving. I doubt they're the first people to pee near the Bogey Inn or even on a tree on the Muirfield Village Golf Course.

Assuming it's their first offense and they are of legal drinking age, they'll pay a fine, do some community service and be put on probation. Urban will add insult to their injuries by taking away their starting positions, forcing them to work their way back up the depth chart, which won't be as difficult as it will be embarrassing, and make them meet with Mariotti or John Simon for early a.m. workouts.

  • I could be arrested every time I go golfing. They are lucky I get out of the golf cart to take a piss.

Perhaps they got arrested for running away. Running away from the police when they tell you to stop just might get you arrested.
