Meyer announcement countdown thread

  • stauff07 said...

What will be interesting is if Meyer comes out and denies these reports himself today or tomorrow. If he does, hopefully he is just temporarily denying it to get everyone to calm down for now.

I wonder if College Gameday will try to give interview him about these reports/rumors again during their broadcast.

He'll definitely deny it or ask his colleagues not to bring it up for a number of reasons, not least of which are to respect Fickell and the "official" search process. Hopefully we will get some confirmation from elsewhere Buckeye Nation before the announcement.

You think so? I don't think he will if it's legit.. He may say something like he's happy at ESPN right now.

It's up to the University to make it public so I expect him to avoid talking about it as much as possible.

  • The question now is, what if we do get a postseason ban? Then does Meyer actually sign the contract or does the deal fall apart?

  • Sorry...haven't read all 8 pages of comments on this thread, but I'd be surprised if they announce before the _ichigan game. Although I guess if they did...it'd be a "Win one for the Fick!" game.

Sources seem to be suggesting that they will wait till after the infractions meeting to announce officially. Meaning sometime earlier December.

I can't speak for Meyer but I will anyway: if I am him I am thinking that a 1-year ban is almost irrelevant. He can still sell recruits on three years of bowls, helping maximize their chances of getting to the League and just playing on a good team. The ban also eases him into the job from a stress point of year since it would immediately temper expectations around Buckeye Nation. And the scholly losses should go unnoticed given tressel's habit of giving out schollies to walk ons.

So if I am him, the sanctions are tolerable.

  • It just honestly makes no sense he leaves a school on top of college football because of heart problems only to go coach another team even if it is a team he's always wanted to coach. If this is true I may go crazy with excitement but I'm still going to wait and see before I get all giddy.

This is just speculation, but perhaps health wasn't the main reason he left Florida. Maybe he was tired of the stress and wanted to take some time off to spend with his family until Tressel retired from OSU after the 2013 season. Then he would be refreshed and have nothing holding him back from taking the OSU job.

this i know: if all the reports come true, and urban is our next head coach, we just pulled the biggest f*ck you to everyone in college football and the big ten. we lose one of the top 3 coaches in college football, everyone said he's a sleaze ball and needs to go, and we replace him with...a top 2 coach in college football. again i will believe nothing until it's signed and sealed and espn's heads are exploding over it

    thumbsup
I'm with ya on that. Big middle finger to ESPiN also. They've done (and continue to do) everything they can to hurt this university, and ultimately just got a potentially better coach.

Who wants small football players so he can run his crappy spread offense? Damn you Buckeye fans who were persistent in wanting this man as our head coach. Damn you!!! OSU has a pro Style offense that works, they just need the right offensive head coach. Urban is a Spread offense that doesn't help the QB grow at all. Imagine him using Miller on scrambles for most of this career and snapping the ball from shotgun most of the game. Kidding me? UGH!!

I would propose this read for you -- http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Board/120/The-Spread-Offense-5596507/1

What has ESPN done to hurt OSU?????? Nothing. If you mean they continue to hire former OSU players or show OSU games on TV.

it would not be first time. earle bruce was fired right before Michigan. If they can do it to Earle, they can do it to an interim Fick.

I am not saying it will happen before Michigan, but I certainly would not rule it out.

Not to be Debbie Downer but I say no way until this NCAA crap is over and that would be for any coach.

I will say this I sat by a starting players father last night on the plane home and his son was recruited by Urban and he said he did not like Urban, which everyone has opinions ( and by the way I am not making this up, it really happened)

I don't think NCAA stuff will be an issue and neither do the parties involved. You are right that it won't be made official until the NCAA has spoken though. Check out the Eleven Warrior tweets posted on the FR:

  • Nut Tree..

Your Grandpa was probably upset 40 years ago when coaches started going away from the Wishbone. FYI, the Spread can be a number of different formulas and can mix Pro-Style in as well. As for the "horror" of taking snaps from shotgun, tell Tom Brady that it doesn't work (apologize for using a meatchicken player reference). Not only would Urban's leadership allow us to score 30- 40 points a game, he can recruit like no other. We will always have a good D (could use a little more blitzing and less prevent), but we will actually be able to put points on the board.
