Meyer to New Orleans

  • I know spring practice starts tomorrow and I'm not sure what the practice schedule is like this week, but what you do think the chances are Urban makes an appearance to support his Buckeyes?!?

With the game starting late (845pm EST) I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up in the Big Easy supporting tOSU.

    Go Bucks!

just more proof people care more about spring practice than the final four. Who cares if Meyer shows ups. It's not like the basketball team cares about it.

Because empirical evidence shows conclusively that all 25 of his online personalities know everything about everything. Just ask him/them.

  • Do you really think Coach Meyer would leave the state the night before spring practice starts? Hes more pumped about this spring practice then any basketball game, i can promise you that. He probably wont be able to sleep the night before. This is his home, this is where he learned to coach this is where he grew up watching football games. On the night before he finally gets a chance to get his hands on his team, The Ohio State Buckeyes, do you really think he will split to go see a basketball game? Coach Meyer will be ready to take this team to National prominence and it starts with this spring football.

exactly!!! why would he GO all the way to NOLA, to watch a game, that he can watch from the comfort of his own living room. i'd be disappointed if he did. he can call thad anytime all week, then again after the tourney.

I don't think he has moved into his house yet. Probably will watch at the WHAC.

  • I think itd be a great show of unity. With the OSU jet its a 2 hour flight. Its not like hes going through security and trying to score an aisle seat on Southwest

    95buckeye

  • Doubt if he goes. There are always recruits on campus on the week-end and he knows he needs to be here.

    buckeyerevenge

  • When I first saw this post, I thought some clown was trying to say Urban was goin to NOLA to be the interim head coach for the Saints... Glad that's not what it was about lol

    BuckeyeChuck81

  • Looks like he said in the presser after practice that if they make it to Monday he'll fly in for the game, which is what i think he did at FL

Urban needs to concentrate on building unity with his staff and players more than any show kind of outward demonstration. This is Matta's stage and shouldn't have to share it. And he doesnt need any unnecessary distractions.

I think the best thing Urban can do is stay in Columbus and have the entire team, players, coaches, trainers, managers, everyone associated with the football program come to the WHAC and watch the game together to build unity, school pride, use the basketball team's success as a teaching tool.

  • Exactly, even though he has one of the most demanding schedules going it isn't like he would be standing around a airport waiting around with everyoe else, 6 to 8 hours he could be down to the big easy and back. Just sayin.

But for what constructive purpose? So that if the cameras show Charlie Weis's fat smug mug again, they can immediately pan to Urban in the crowd? And what would that accomplish? That our coach is better looking and more fit than Kansas's?

Back in 1988, before John Cooper coached his first game as OSU's new head coach, he was featured in a series of commercials for Kroger. They were all shot in the summer before his first season but they did not run until the fall. A new spot in the campaign was introduced every couple weeks but even though they'd been produced months before, the public's perception and outcry was that Cooper was shooting the commercials during the season and his focus wasn't on his #1 priority, which was his team, which was struggling and would finish 4-6-1. It became a PR nightmare for Cooper and Kroger.

The past is prologue; he who does not learn from it is doomed to learn from it--Urban can accomplish more by staying home and taking care of his business than showing up live on camera in New Orleans. This is a guy prone to overwork and exhaustion. Why does he need to be on parade when he could be relaxing with his team and letting them know his focus is 100% on them?

Ohio State's basketball team won't know he's there nor care. My concern is that it could send a message to Ohio State's football team that he is not singularly focused on them.

What you're saying here is exactly the reason we're ONLY known as a football school, and people are shocked that we've had so many good seasons, and that Matta can recruit so well. The University is a support system for everyone, and Athletics see it this way too. You show support for other teams, whether it's football, basketball, field hockey, or track and field.

You'd better believe the basketball team would know he's there. It would certainly show the basketball team that they have supporters outside of the basketball circle. Even moreso, I can't even fathom why you would think the football team would have a problem with Meyer going to NOLA, especially when it would be as little as a 7 hour round trip. Do you not think the football team will all be watching from WHAC or their apartments? Meyer's focus does need to be primarily on football, but I'll be damned if he isn't allowed to show support for other teams within THE SAME INSTITUTION! Football isn't the only sport played at OSU. Go ask the rifle team, rowing team, lacrosse teams who they're athletes for, and they'll say OSU!

    1. This is none of the publics business.

    2. Going to New Orleans to enjoy a basketball game would be another vacation, and relaxing trip that will be essential for our new FB coach's health. Besides, who says it for an appearance on national television. He is a human too you know. I'm sure he WANTS to be there.

    3. To show support for a national title I would think would be forgiveable from Urbans players.

    4. Ohio State's basketball team WILL know he's there, and care. And probabaly receive a badass pep talk.

    5. The football team will be fine without him for a day or 2, thats why he is delegating more to his assistants so he can do things like this.
