Mike Adams

  • There is a topic on the premium board "Mike Adams tested positive at the NFL combine for Marijuana". Does anyone have anymore information on this? Is it true or just some B.S.?

    talbert39

  • The thread is about how Mike Adams is using his chemical engineering degree in the lab to help the NFL test the samples provided by the players.

  • Just hope it is not true. I thought he had grown out of his stupid stage. If it is true he is headed down the same path that unfortunately so many great athletes with talent have tread. Again will be hoping it is not true for his sake.

  • I know everyone wants to believe pot use is a cancer at other college football programs but at tOSU our guys are too straight laced to partake. Trust me the percentage of usage on our football team is equal to that of the campus in general. While it is illegal I'd rather see big Mike taking a few hits off a bong than downing a 12 pack and then taking a drive down High Street.
Mike testing positive it is a non issue. If he drops a few spots in the draft that will be his problem. I know of a starting DB from a very product season at tOSU that went on to a long career in the league even though liked to get toasted in his spare time. I also recall one the greatest QBs to ever take the field.....Dan "the man" Marino had rumors of pot usage surrounding him between college and the draft.

Didn't ask for a pro-cannabis advertisement, I asked what the information was. Take your bong and go sit in the corner for 15 minutes everything will be better then.

  • Dude, it's a topic board. You start insulting people and no one's gonna answer you.

Actually I was responding to Dbuck. I don't have VIP access so I didn't have any inside information for you.

  • Hope it isn't true, but after the problems he had at OSU with the sticky icky I'll file this under "wouldn't be at all surprised"

I won't debate on the evils of alcohol vs marijuana, however there is no dispute that alcohol isn't banned by the NFL and marijuana is. If this is going to be a chronic (no pun intended) problem for him he is looking at game suspensions, and this is something that NFL teams will certainly take into account before drafting him.

I did mention that if he suffers any draft repercussions it is all on him. My point being other players have tested positive and have still had long and profitable careers.

  • Just seems quite stupid to me if he did get popped at the combine. It affected his career at TOSU and now he may be starting out with it affecting his career in the NFL. From previous comment I wasn't insulting anyone, just banishing them to the corner for 15 minutes with their bong, reward or punishment? Only they could decide :)

  • Last winter break, about two weeks before the sugar bowl, I went to Noodles and Co. on High Street. As I was leaving out the back door, I see two huge guys walking up and throw whatever they were smoking on the ground before walking into the restaurant. I immediately recognized Adams and I think the other was Shugarts. Both reeked of weed.

So no, I'm not surprised by this at all. It's probably not BS, and even if someone just made this up and he didn't test positive, I know that he was walking around High Street with a joint. And from being a student on campus for a few years now, I would say it's very likely that more players on the team do this kind of stuff than you would think.

  • Smoking weed ain't no big deal did it myself for years. Last joint i smoked some 20 year ago.
What is a big deal is losing hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of dollars. This is a common sense 101 subject.
Adams was suspension in college and now possibly the NFL. Anyone see a pattern here?
Smart NFL management need reliability with their draft picks

  • It's my understanding hea gone through some sort of counseling program and is being open with teams about the subject.

Hea stills a talent, but hea cost himself a couples lion dollars over weed.

    Pretty frickin stupid.

The issue for NFL teams is one of self discipline and intelligence. Adams knew he was going to be tested and wouldn't stop smoking for a month. That weed may cost him some serious money.

OTOH, maybe it explains him being outlifted by Michigan's wide receiver at the combine! fingergun

  • I checked out Peter Schrager's 3 round mock draft on Foxsports.com today, expecting to see Adams out of the 1st round. He actually has him going #10, comments that he has the most pro ready build of any tackle in the draft, and that the pot smoking will not deter a team from taking him as high as top 10. I was surprised. I've always thought he had a ton of talent, just not sure if he's going to put it all together. I wish him the best though, I'll be rooting for him ( as long as he doesn't go to the Steelers or Ravens).

If he goes #10, the joke's (or should I say toke's) on us.

  • Too all those "high" on their horses about a little pot...big whoopdie doo. The NFL is loaded with criminals, not some little pot/spliff/toke/bong BS but criminals. They're getting paid well too. Many of them do a good job BTW. The NFL is all about money, nothing else, and if some team has to draft a pot smoker in order to help their team win and bring in the $$$ they'll be lining up. So if you think this is a big deal but support your local NFL team complete with players who have records then I got a bridge to sell you...they smoke pot on it too.

    IndyDog

  • I don't think smoking weed is a big deal, but doing right before a known drug test...stupid, and a lack of discipline. Those are two big strikes. Yeah, pot isn't crack, but it does have some harmful effects, particularly if you are trying to be an elite athlete. Getting the munchies or lying on the couch all day playing video games aren't good for developing into an NFL stud. Big Mike had a solid OSU career, but I don't think he really lived up to his potential and that could be a reason why.

Weed, like booze or food, is OK in moderation but there are times you gotta say no. Hope he realizes that eventually.
