Mr. B Not Feeling Special ...

  • Could it be, just maybe, our Bucks were looking ahead a bit too much? They want those Canes. It is their coming out opportunity and beating the Canes would do wonders for the team's psyche. So my conclusion, given everything, is that the Bucks were looking ahead. And that can happen to any body. And it may serve us very well indeed, the way things turned out. The one thing I cannot explain is the absence of Brax from the Toledo game. But that may be another aspect of looking ahead, saving a few surprises for the Canes.

The last bit here is the play of Smith. We had that game locked up and put away only if Smith would not fumble. That was the worst thing yesterday. I think he is going to pay for that for the rest of the year.

  • smith should sit awhile. give berry a chance to carry the rock. watch for reed to throw the ball off the end around. miller should have been given a chance. i am still not convinced that there wasn't an injury or dicipline issue. i would put the qb coach next to him. we look slow and i am not sure why. our tackling sucked. that can be coached. anyone know the organization and boosters, including expplayers responsible for the recent suspensions? time to boycott and make the boosters persona non grata

  • Dear Mr. Bucknut, Why so depressed. Did we not win that game?? We have lost a zillion guys because of Tressel's refusal to correct a problem LAST YEAR like he should have. Since we had to vacate the whole season anyway what did it matter. Did he really think he could hide all that garbage. Why exactly did he do this? For himself? To protect TP? All bad reasons in my book. He goes down badly in my book. Yes we know Tressel would have started Miller. Miller would have lost (still might if you all keep putting pressure on Fickell) to Miami, MICH State, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisonsin, Penn State and Michigan. Of course if you start a high schooler like he did with TP it gives you protection. People will say he is playing for 2012, or 2013. Does anybody out there think that OSU has a chance in any of those games with a Freshman running QB back there. The line is not that great without Adams. Turns out the pedestrian Herron really is the best back they have. Forget all that ridiculous recruiting nonsense about Berry or Smith. No line, no runners. Aaron Rodgers could not go unbeaten with this bunch. Is it possible that Fickell believes that Bauserman is his best chance to win 7 or 8 games. Start Miller we win maybe 5 and Fickell knows he would be out of here. Tressel had the job security to start a Freshman QB and wait 3 years for him to develop gradually. Fickell does not have that time. You would do the same if you were in his shoes as would most of the whining fans who think Miller would instantly turn this mess around. Don't think so with this line and group of runners. I will route for the Buckeyes to win, no matter who they start, but I hope they try and win as many games as possible. The hell with next year. Let's win as many as we can right now. Isn't that the most important thing.

  • Rod Smith looks more like Freshman Eddie George every week... he fumbles in critical situations. They look very similar in that regard.

  • Great Article Mr. B., although I could have sworn Bauserman got sacked in the Toledo game.

How exactly is Ohio State not being a good steward? Are you suggesting we have the best talent in the country? I don't see how you could argue that. What would Tressel have had to do to succeed at that goal? Win the national championship every year? I think OSU is getting close to being number one in one thing: the most spoiled fans.

Re-read what I wrote - it's all in there. Yes, we underachieve for the talent we have. If we played in the SEC, we'd have 4 or 5 L's each year, from teams who don't recruit as well as us. That's a fact any objective Buckeye fan would have to admit.

My problem with Urban Meyer during his Akron broadcast with Chris Spielman is that he continuously second guessed our play calling. Sounded like he was already the new coach. Shamefiul. It also got to a point of bickering between the two of them. Not good coverage. The BTN coverasge of the Toledo game left a lot to be desired. They were talking about everything but the game at hand--typical of every broadcast. They were talking a bout something having nothing to do with the game when Toledo blocked the punt. They were interviewing two of my heroes, Pace & Doss, while play was going on They do a lausy job of down and distance leaving it to the graphics which usually don't come up until the next play is about to start. They do a lousy job of following substitutions. All this is basic stuff--you don't need to be a broadcast genius to get this right. Do they critique their work after the game? All that tape is available! I'd like to hear other comments on the subject.

Boy, you got it right about the Big Ten network casts. And to make it even worse, they don't show replays. Bottom line, we get to see little of the game compared to much of football telecasting.

After listening to Spielman on the Akron telecast, I decided I hope he never calls plays, is involved in the offensive game plans, or coaches at Ohio State. He doesn't seem to understand what offense is all about.

PS: Yesterday was not a surprise for any of us from Toledo.

It really should not have been a surprise for anyone who was paying attention. The Rockets were real good last year and have most of their starters back.

They have some really talented skill guys and a much more imaginative offense than we do. PLUS they had absolutely nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain. Compare this with a Carlos Hyde who ran with both arms wrapped around the ball most of the time and a Joe Bauserman who was afraid to throw to a receive that had a defender within ten yards of him. It was almost our worst nightmare but it was a W!

Contrary to Mr. B's comment, I think TU may be better than Penn State. Don't be surprised if TU upsets Boise St. next week . . or at least puts a real scare into them.

Most of our guys who see the field could've gone to the SEC... yet it seems we just don't play hard & fast. I don't care for Les Miles personally, but would love to see what he'd do with our guys. People don't "fear" OSU - they fear LSU - true butt-kickers who play hard, fast, and fearless (on offense and defense) all of the time.

That's complete crap. Most teams know just how good OSU is and that we are more than for real. It's the media and dorky fans that glom onto the stereotypes.

FWIW - they were late with down and distance on the stadium scoreboard several times too. If BTN relies upon the scoreboard for that info (instead of their own eyes), then maybe that's why they were also late with it.

  • No Miller?????? = No Coaching. After we lose to Miami, Mich. St., Neb., Ill, Wisc. and must I say it, (Mich.) Fickell will be looking for another job. What kind of coach doesn't have his back up QB with head sets on getting involved with the plays.???? I'm starting to think less and less of Fickell.

Get Miller in there!!!! I can't take this! JB will not win us games against farily good teams.

  • Another fine article...one of your best. Not that anyone cares but now a few of my opinions.

    1. Special teams coach = brother of the departed.
    2. OC and play caller = Friend of the departed.
    3. Who would ever have imagined what plays (especially 1st. down) Bolls was going to call before he even call it = Since he is so predictable how about the Toledo coach who was here with him?
    4. I have not given up on Luke just yet but if he doesn't get rid of Joe Bauserman, Joe Bauserman will get rid of him. The real Joe Bauserman stood up Saturday.
    5. Don't think it was San Diego State the week after 9/11, I think it was UCLA. If not I went to the wrong game.
    6. Someone mention the special teams and the kick off. All I can say is WOW. You have a kicker that kicks 90% of his kick offs into the end zone and you don't have enough faith in your ST's to try and cover it.
I guess you would rather give the other team the ball close to mid field every time? Time for a change, he couldn't coach running backs either.
He and Bolls should take the same bus out of town.
    There I feel better now!

  • I wonder why "global warming" has morphed into "climate change"?The left always seems to try and hide who they are this way.I wonder how just back in the 70s that these same people were warning of a new "ice age".If all this wasn`t so patheticaly sad and cost all of us money,it would be funny watching all these nuts freak out.
