My guess is Bellichick drafted him for the same reason he did Bam Childress about six years ago: to be on the practice squad.
Because we all know that Bellichick doesn't draft Buckeyes. He may acquire them a la Shawn Springs, Joey Galloway. But as far as taking a Buckeye high in the draft or even in the mid rounds--not a chance. We know he only believes in Southern Pride for draft picks, i.e. the SEC.

Just wanted to say....
Loved Nate Ebner last year. Was a special team beast. I would say good luck to him but he doesn't need it. He works his ass off and goes 100 percent all out. He doesn't need luck.

Great for him. I saw his name come across the NFL network. I new it was him. All it said was Ebner from OSU.

Maybe Belichek drafted him to keep him from the Jets getting him.
I admit finding a role for him may be difficult but Belichek doesn't waste draft picks. He's more likely to trade a pick than waste it. Some guys you take knowing they're probably never play more than special teams. But with only about 50 an active roster that's a two deep plus specialists. The margins for error are pretty slim. If he makes the team he will play.
