Next 2-3 weeks may be biggest in PSU football history

  • If B.O.B stays, I think they weather this 4 year storm, if he goes to the NFL it could cripple them.

I know many of you wish the worst on PSU, I myself am not a fan of their "fans", but after the BIG struggles and national perception I do want the BIG to be as strong as possible so I'm hoping he stays with them.

  • I agree Robo...The B10 hierarchy at the school level shows no sign of investing as they should so we need teams to compete on the field and win..without facilities AND good coaches, this will not work.. On the other side, if what is reported is true about B.O'B being told by PSU that there would not be sanctions, and if he was given some assurances to this, then he should walk..Of course a third grader could probably told you there would be sanctions..

  • Wish the B1G would kick PSU out of the Conference and add GT, UNC, & either VT/UVA. Just my pipedream....

  • This is why the State of Pa is filing this lawsuit. The school is not going to do it because they know they are cutting their own throat be fighting the NCAA. So, they are getting the State of PA to attempt to fight this battle for them being it is a state institution. Someone else has said the suit is only to make sure the $60 million stays in PA, but we don't know that as of yet. I honestly don't believe there is any claim against the NCAA at all. Again, the NCAA is a private institution. PeeSU is subject to the institution's by-laws and policies. It is not about the school breaking the law, therefore no due process was required! As far as B.OB being promised that there would be no sanctions, this is the first I've heard of this. He could have though because he was hired in January, well before the Freeh report was completed. Prior to that report, the school (like their fans) may have felt pretty confidant it was not a football, or athletic department vs. the NCAA issue. It is also probably safe to assume now that Spainer has finally been brought up on charges, Paterno may have as well had he not passed away.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If the state does happen to win, or win at least part of this, it could render the NCAA impotent as a governing body. I guess the only good part would be that it would force the NCAA to re-tool its policies and uniform the way it punishes.

I see Bob or Saban coaching the Browns. I think BOB was lied to when hired and he kept a happy face through it all.

  • I think he stays, and I hope the sanctions get reduced. Total BS NCAA trying to appease the masses.

I do care about the victims, but give them the 60 million, take the bowl ban, when PSU plays in a bowl the money should go to the victims, why should the current players suffer for Jerry Sandusky?

And if its for a stronger B1G, don't jubliate when the got sanctioned & cry about how bad the B1G is in bowl games.

  • OSU was penalized in 2012 not because the players sold merchandise for tatoos, we were penalized because Jim Tressel was told they were doing it through several emails and he failed to report it.

PSU, while what that monster did to all those kids are horrendous, their penalty has nothing to do with the crimes. The penalties are from what would probably be one of the biggest cover-ups in NCAA history. A coach was told by an assistant, by a mother and who knows how many others, he then reported it to his superior and then just dropped it. Who knows how deep in the administration helped cover this up, and to make it worse they continued to let the guy bring kids onto campus to help with their future recruiting even though they knew of the allegations. Police investigations were quickly washed away, so you know there were some shaky things going on there.

So while it does make the big ten take a big hit in the quality of teams I do not feel sorry for PSU's sanctions one bit, too many people put the university ahead of its students and those kids.

I agree 100%! They got exactly what they deserved. I believe any law suit may open up an even bigger can of worms. When we went through our issues, some of the loudest bad-mouthing in the country came from Crappy Valley! Those who say the Freeh Report is flawed need to take the blue & white glasses off and get a dose of reality. What reason would Mr. Freeh have to conduct an investigation, and submit a flawed report that the school paid him to do? The answer is....NONE! Some people couldn't, or wouldn't be interviewed due to the on going legal issues or in Paterno's case he died. That didn't keep Freeh from uncovering the damning paper trail.

  • I don't think the OP defended PSU at all. He simply stated that PSU would tank if they lose B.O.B. then it turned into the states lawsuit etc....

  • Hey, how about the Governor of Ohio sues the NCAA as well? You know, they exceeded their bounds because we had 5 players who legally traded their own personal property for goods or services & the NCAA's rules prohibit that, thus harming the financial well being of those student athletes and their families. Hey, and all Jim Tressel did was to do his get third hand info, he looked into it by questioning the players and was satisfied with their answer. When he signed his compliance affidavit, he truly felt he was telling the truth! This is basically the same flimsy excuse as the state of PA's contention. The NCAA bullied PeeSU into accepting the sanctions by threatening much worse as well as telling them they better not even think about appealing. PA's Governor is grandstanding in attempt to please his masses in his bid for reelection.
