O Line sheds Meyer's Label

  • During spring practice, coach Urban Meyer called the Ohio State offensive line “nonfunctional.”

“Coach has been quoted as saying it’s the most improved position on the team overall. We’ve got a great group of guys that want to bust their butt and do everything they can to get better.”

edit: didn't see this on the Front Row; hope it's ok.

Why wouldn't it be ok? It's free information and Nutbuster checked with Dave Biddle who said as long as links are posted anything is fair game as far as other sites.

And any information in their area that isn't marked VIP is also fair game as far as I'm concerned.

  • Urban is not the type to hand out compliments very easily, so when he says "most improved" I take that as they are WAY better than what they have been.

I'm hoping to see this offensive line get physical and move bodies backwards. I haven't seen that out of our OL in many years, never under Jim Bollman.

Urban says exactly what he thinks and I like that and it sounds like the players like it also. And yes, it'll be really interesting to watch the O-Line over the next 3-4 years.

  • I'm hoping they learned to count. That way the O can go on anything but 1 so teams like MSU can't just jump the count like last year.

Perhaps a bad attempt at sarcasm, but a certain mod here told me that 90% of what I post that is news worthy has already been posted on The Front Row.
Just thought I'd run it by him first.

Man that was sad. Same thing with the Florida game.

    I gotcha.

IMO what gets posted here in the free area should not in any way be dependent or affected by what is or isn't posted in the premium area. When you see news, feel free to post it. I certainly will keep doing so, whether I find it on another site, or in the VIP area. I don't mind posting links to everything since Dave Biddle told Nut that it was all good.

Keep doing what you do 3andc. I may not always comment but always use my +1's. I like what they are doing around here. Its like a military setting. Break them down and build them up. Im still nervous about the O-Line. On paper it looks average, but if I was good enough to coach, I may accept the position, for a slight pay raise.

You know the thing I think will help the OL the most is that our passing will be much quicker than in year's past -- it won't be as heavy on the deep ball and slow-developing pass routes. There will be quicker routes and constraint plays built into the offense to keep the defense from loading up and blitzing. I really look forward to this, should be a lot of fun once the kinks get ironed out.

  • it's the only position in my opinion that kept OSU from being a dominant team over the last decade. Might make me cry to see our offensive line high school studs actually develop into a line that just dominates, not sure I remember the last OSU offensive line that just pushed defenses around, I remember monster individual players like Pace, but not an entire line.

  • Very good point Razr. Also our offense will not be near as predicable. If a D-lineman or LBer knows we are passing the ball, they will be able to get to the QB much faster. In Bollmans offense, where we ran the ball on first and second down, and play action pass on 3rd and 8 made it very easy for opposing defenses.

Ya the predictability factor will be huge as well.
