  • The players are essentially endorsing NIKE every time they put on their uniforms b/c of the deal OSU has. Consider this:

If I wanted to wear my own Under Armour shoes in games are they gonna tell me I can't? I have to wear Nike? Wear does it say that in my "contract"? (pun intended). That's what I thought.

BTW these JT wristbands are NOT the first by Core Synergy that I've seen the players wear. Are they going to be required to return ANY titanium wrist band because they're endorsing that particular brand? Seriously!

It's almost a complete shadowing of BIGGER GOVERNMENT telling you what you can and can't do in your personal lives.

  • I don't believe it was about the bracelets. It is all about perception - the players received their bracelets for 15 dollars and they are being sold for 25 dollars. Did the players think they were promoting them - I don't think so.. I think they just wanted to show support to Coach JT. The program just went through an investigation for players receiving improper benefits. Did anyone else get the bracelets for $15 - don't know. If there was no action now – a year down the road the program might have been under another investigation for improper benefits. That would be disastrous.

Nike is ok because the pro athletes that represent them are saint like. Especially the model citizens of the NBA. Jordan is ok because all the chicks he banged gave consent and the gambling was due to ADDICTION.

Especially their renewed love of mike vick...scumbags!

Why? Is it better to let the players pine over the ex-coach who is no longer there? Allowing tressel reminders only promotes excuses and possible mutiny against the Fickell and his staff. Its time to circle the wagons and embrace who is there, not someone from the past.

Tress can have his name in the ring of honor or something done by the school in 10 years or so. The current players need to move on and stay focused on the task at hand.

I wonder if part of the reason is that OSU's stand with the NCAA is that Tressel was a renegade coach and was solely responsible for the recent unpleasantness in the hopes that the NCAA will go softer on OSU as a result. To allow the players to honor him would send a mixed message to the NCAA at the worst possible time.

Because there's absolutely nothing wrong with showing support for someone if they so wish. It doesn't promote excuses for anything.

No one said they haven't moved on. Showing support for someone does not mean they are not focused on workouts and getting better on the field.

Let them talk about it, have an open door policy, address the team about it.

But you cannot have his presence lingering over the program. All that does is open the door for JT not being there as an excuse when soemthing goes wrong.

I agree with Italian, support Fickell openly if they must do something.

His presence isn't lingering. According to Fickell, JT has stayed away. Again, there is nothing wrong with the kids showing support for a former coach that they liked and respected. That does not mean that the ghost of JT is in the locker room because some of the kids are wearing wrist bands.

Many of the kids are already supporting Fickell openly -- just watch some of the videos of the Freshmen interviews from earlier this week.

This isn't a situation where you have to pick one or the other. It's ok for kids to like both of these coaches and to support one they miss openly. It does not mean they don't support Fickell.

    Razorback

  • You're making an assumption that the kids can make that separation. Right now, its easy to do it. If and when things get tough, that's when JT's shadow will loom, especially if there are constant reminders of him everywhere.

Luke did the absolute best thing, get rid of all reminders of Tress. Its Luke's team now. That's not disrespectful to JT, its reality.

No one said it's not Luke's team, and that's what the reality is. We have seen player after player get up and say great things about both guys. IMO (and no offense is intended to you) the idea that the players cannot show some support for their former coach while also supporting the new one is absolutely absurd.

Well if you want to look at it that way, I can think of 5 reminders that will be in that locker room everyday. If you want all reminders of Tressel separated from the team than you need to remove the remaining players who caused this mess to begin with !

They should do brain surgery on all the kids and turn all of them into robots. Do we live in a FREE country anymore?

Chad, this is the post of the year. No, we don't live in a free country. We are slaves to one master: money. Espn is the Beast and Mark May is the whore of Babylon.

  • "walking billboards" and not being compensated for it! Don't even start with the scholarship shit! There were no shoe or apparel contracts back in the day that were worth MULTI MILLIONS!

    Consider:
I've worn reebok or addias throughout my HS career. I like the way they feel and I'm superstitious about my gameday shoes and such. Now I'm told I have to wear NIKE?

All of us are promoting a certain brand everytime we put on an Ed Hardy (Blah!) shirt, Affliction shirt, Doc Marten shoes, Diesel jeans etc etc. I believe this wasn't an issue of "promoting" a certain brand as much as it was trying to distance themselves from JT. So are they not allowed to wear all titanium wrist bands? I mean they could be said to be promoting that brand instead right?

    Something Stinks!

29,000 children have died in recent months in Somalia due to starvation.

    Let's talk about that!

People come here to escape an ugly reality that they have little or no control over.

I pay Social Security, etc... even though I know it won't be there for me when I retire.

How do you suggest that Bucknuts posters resolve drought, famine, violence, mothers killing their children, or pending economic disaster?

I did not suggest us posters to talk about those topics or solve the worlds problems. I implied that with all that is happening in the world, JT wristbands was not worthy of an ONN breaking news story.
