My thoughts for a while now. How about that female Chinese swimmer who swam a lap faster than the men did?

go read about how they used to train in Atlanta - then all of a sudden they began training in their native Jamaica. Ever since they went home the men and women have been running obscene times. I am sure it is just a coincidence no. Also what does Carl Lewis know?

  • I've been a huge Tyson Gay fan for many years and definitely felt horrible when he finished out of the top 3. He still has a few surprises left before he hangs up the spikes.
However, I don't believe the Jamacians are doping. I think it has a lot to do with how much they value track and field and really seem to be in groove with current and up and coming talent.
Up until this year with addition of Gatlin and Bailey it's mostly been Tyson Gay or nobody for the US. I've never been impressed with Dix or Spearman.
Hopefully Bailey can carry the touch but he needs help from some young guys who are out there some where.

I believe the USA 4X100 relay team will bring home the gold if they connect on their handoffs.

Naw, but they're taking something or blood doping somehow.

Way too fast, their women too.

That Chinese swimmer has been separated from her family since she was very young and sent to a development camp for gifted athletes. Practicing day and night for this moment, there is much at stake for her and her family if she bombs out. That is why Chinese athletes are achievers. This is ALL they do once they are selected for development.

I tell you what, though: I'd like to try Yohan Blake in the playmaker position and split Bolt wide and let him fly. Put 'em in pads and give 'em some stickum and no one'll touch us!

    That's their PR line...

Most Olympic athletes compete and train from a young age. She also beat men who have trained from a young age.

    Really? Baseball? Football? Bodybuilding?

Athletes cheat...period. They find ways around it. Some are clean, just as many are dirty.

If it's doping it is going on at the high school level. Jamaican high schools dominate the Penn Relay sprints every year - it isn't even close. Their HS National Championships would rival a college conference championship. However, the Jamaican runners competing internationally are even more dominant. Bolt reminds me of Bonds, Sosa, and McGuire when physically comparing him to his peers. I hope it is just genetics and training. After all, it is their national sport.

  • Slightly off topic, but easily the most shocking thing I heard from the games thus far. During the women's 1500m the announcer noted an Ethiopian runner that had married a Swede and wanted to represent them in the games. The Ethiopian government then threatened not only to pull her passport but to harm her family if she didnt represent the home nation.

How the hell is that not making headlines?

So you dont think it could be going on in HS? Geese man, roids went through my HS like candy, and that was 22 years ago.

  • The thread starter and his supporters comment smacks of native bias. You believe the Jamaicans are doping because they are too fast!! Wow. I guess world records aren't meant to be broken and if so only by Americans. Do you know anything of the lengthy history of Jamaican sprinting? Do you know how many Jamaican born sprinters have won the Olympic 100 meters? Do you know how often Usain Bolt is tested and for that matter the rest of the Jamaican team? I highly doubt it. As an initial poster said Jamaicans breathe track and field. It is in our cultural DNA. Similar to football in Ohio but more extreme. This is one of the proudest moments in my country's history and you want to sully it with unproven accusations. If you had done your research you would have discovered that Usain Bolt has been a dominant sprinter since the age or 13. In fact he is the greatest junior sprinter who ever lived. If he has been using steroids he has been using it since his then. How ridiculous. Unlike another commentator's high school Jamaica doesn't have a history of steroids use in high school. Weed is another story:-) Now if you want to discuss documented history of drug cheats in America I am ready to listen. Your statement is similar to saying our Buckeyes are cheaters because they are so dominant! No, it is called an elite program. Go Buckeyes!!!!!

Bias? They have the fastest runners in history from a small island with a tiny population.

    One freak runner? Sure.

4-6 including women? Open your eyes.

We went through the steroid era in baseball in this country; if its too good to be true, then something is probably up.

Multiple people all of a sudden don't smash records without peds.

  • By your reasoning then the Chinese and Indians should be the dominant sprinters since they have a large population and are from a continent. Your reasoning is feeble. Jamaica has been producing Olympic sprinters since the 1940s. Please do some research. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic produce elite baseball players comparable to America. Cuban the same in addition to Olympic boxers and jumpers. The Caribbean in general is rife with athletic talent. Now do you know what I find strange? Since a more stringent drug testing has been implemented globally America's success has diminished. Coincidental? Now that the playing field has been even now we can see who is truly the best in the world and that my friend is Jamaica in the sprints. In fact you should make a list of all the Americans and all the Jamaicans that have failed their drug screening. I'm sure it would be very enlightening and revealing.
