OT: Tofu

  • I'm eating tofu tonight and i'm not drunk ... wife said we should have it .. how much teryaki sauce will need to be used to flavor this sponge of crap into an edible delicacy that will be delightful for my palate ?

    soflabuck

  • Probably a few bottles. The only way its any good is in hot and sour soup. And it has its flavor already. So I would say 2 bottles.

  • If your wife is serving you tofu...................The least of your worries is the amount of Teryaki. There is NO reason you should have tofu.

  • Tofu should only be eaten as a side item or an ingredient of a main course. If Tofu is a main course item someone is screwing with you and you should run away!

  • I love tofu but try to avoid it as much as possible. The soy industry has sold everyone a bill of goods. It's BAD for you!

I just dont know how anyone got to the point of trying tofu. I prepare all the meals here. Im not even sure my wife knows how to turn on the oven. So I go shopping for groceries...............................I think Im going to get this white block that I have know idea how to prepare. I have know idea how to disguise it to make it taste good. There is no possible way to make it appealing to the eyes.......................To top it off, I have NEVER seen this product in the stores. Im not looking for it, but in 12 years of grocery shopping, I have not seen tofu once. There are 3 things that are off limits for me, cottage cheese, sour cream, and cream cheese. Maybe the stuff bums me out because it looks like a block of cream cheese.....................I however have not seen this product in person, just in magazines or on tv.

I'm not commenting on the relative health of tofu, but that site does not try to mask its anti-tofu agenda.

Tofu can be good as there are many different ways to prepare it and it basically takes on the flavor of your prefered sauce or the other ingredients it's cooked with. First, I prefer the firm as opposed to soft ( the soft is kinda like cottage cheese ). The best way I've prepared it is to cube it and fry it in oil . This lends a more meaty consistency - sorta like a wierd chicken nugget. After its fried up to your likng top it with teryaki or peanut sauce, enjoy. Don't be scared, if it doesn't turn out good, try it again. Foodnetwork.com has tons of good looking recipes.

    Good luck

    Yeah, I said it.

Enough to eliminate the lack of flavor tofu has. Bean curd should be the last vegie on an American plate. IMHO

Soy in general has a lot of plant estrogen... it's bad for you if you have too much of it

    Exactly!

Phytoestrogens. BAD stuff. Do the research and stop listening to the food "nuts" telling how great it is for you. It's BULLSHIT! The only way soy is good for you is when it's prepared in its fermented state which eliminates the phytoestrogens.
