  • I keep waiting for the bottom to fall out but this team has the same feel as the '07 team with late inning rally's and heroics. June swoon, Tigers finally get hot or are we actually in this? I hope!!!! Awesome win tonight!!!

Speaking from 37 years of Cleveland Sports DISCOURAGEMENT, bottom will fall out.

  • I dunno Chad. If they can stay away from the injury bug, and with the extra playoff spot, they are talented enough to be in contention.

This is a very scrappy team that plays good fundamental baseball. They work the count deep, they draw walks, the pitching is sufficient, the bullpen is very good, and Acta is a pretty good manager.

The onew thing that will kill them is injuries. I'm pretty optomisitic they can stay relevant.

  • Got to agree with the Injury bug. The one thing they need to keep doing is playing consistent defense. This pitching staff is not a power staff and makes teams put it in play and if the Defense can continue to play well, they should be alright. I keep thinking "will the Indians be buyers at the deadline?" but then I think what position do we go for? Kotchman is obviously not a typical offensive power firstbasemen, but the guy plays some serious D. 3rd base could be a possibility but you would think they would bring Chisenhall up. OF could still be a possibility but the problem is, is that your not going to sit Choo, and your more than likely not going to sit Damon, so it would almost have to be someone who could play CF. The Bullpen still scares me. Pestano has been throwing lights out and Chris Perex found out how to be consistent again, but I really would like to see the Sipp and Perez of last year instead of the two that have an ERA of over 5 this year. I don't know, I do know we have a manager who cares and wants to win and I enjoy watching this team on a nightly basis and I hope come the end of September I am still watching! GO Tribe!

Great take and I agree. You have to worry about Hafner staying healthy. I'd love to get a bat at the deadline and a starter also. It would be great to get Grady back but I just don't see him making back this year. It sucks too because the kid is a player but has been killed by injuries. If he can go in late July and we're still in this I say let him rehab in Columbus and test the back out, but if we are 5 games or more back I say shut him down but that might mean we'd never see him back in a Indian uniform again. Tough call!!

Wonder if Acta could coach football in cleveland.

Well, they could use a right handed bat...but when you need a right handed bat, typical baseball rational is simply to add pitching as it dominates the post season.

Kotchman hasnt gotten the ground balls to get through as he did in Tropicana on the turf hitting wise, but he is a good fielder. So i think the D will hold tight this year.

Cole Hammels is going to be available at the deadline; the Phillys aren't resigning him. Power lefty with filthy stuff. Its a pipe dream, I know, but throw him at the top of the rotation, and if Masterson can settle in, that staff gets pretty good in a 7 game series.

  • Their current winning % puts them at about 94-95 wins. I just don't see this team as a 95 win team. Now, I am a bitter Cleveland fan, so I may be tainted a bit....but I just don't see them winning that many games.

I haven't really looked at who they have played and who they have left, so who knows. Also, not sure Chicago or Detroit has played their best yet.

But I will be cheering and starting to believe like the dumbass Cleveland fan I am....as always.

Verlander is the only thing giving me hope about my Tigers right now. Would love to see the Tigers and Indians battle it out all Summer.

  • I don't follow baseball, but I do know this much: IT'S MAY.

There is still plenty and plenty of time for the wheels to fall off. The Reds are usually decent until the All-Star break, too.

Yes and this time last year we had like a 7 game lead in the division only to lose it by the All-Star break and be completely out of it by August. Injuries really killed the Tribe last year. I think that's why most of us are being cautious but optimistic (except Chad)

Good point but Babes uni would look like a Canadian Triple Small to Prince Fielder. I think he got FATTER during the course of a 3 game series.
