Doesn't really matter at this point. In general, the lottery is a tax on the stupid. But at this point your expected value, even with 1:175m odds, is more than 1. Meaning in an economic sense it's a good investment. Of course, that's partly dependent on how many tickets overall are sold because at a certain point the expected value will drop below 1 because of the probability that you would split the pot. But at anywhere below 350-360 million tickets sold you are actually, in a strict sense, making a positive investment by buying a lottery ticket when the lump sum payout is greater than the odds. I don't know how many tickets are being bought, but my assumption is it will be less than 350 million.
