Oh My - Has Anyone Ever Seen the Likes of this type of DLine?

  • For the love of GOD man!

Coach Urban Meyer and his staff are assembling one of the best known defensive lines that I think I have ever seen.
Has anyone ever seen this or can reference a better group of kids than what the Buckeyes are putting together? shrug

This isn't even going to be funny to watch. Someone is going to get hurt playing against the likes of the following:
And please don't look at this list as a ranking as ALL of these dudes can bring it!

    1) Simon
    2) Hankins
    3) Goebel (sp)
    4) Bellemy
    5) Bennett
    6) Thomas
    7) Hale
    8) Blankenship
    9) Moore
    10) Pittman
    11) Schutt
    12) Bosa
    13) Sprinkle
    14) Neal
    15) Spence
    16) Washington

This is going to be crazy! If this isn't the best DLine assembled, then I am going to eat my hat!

FWIW before Bosa, Sprinkle, Neal, and don't forget Billy Price who is going to be an animal ever step on the turf Simon, Goebel and likely Hankins will be gone. Regardless point made this is going to be a D-line to be reckoned with. Going to be fun watching these guys eat up OLs for the near future!!!

Agreed. You just pointed out the abundance of riches that continues to baffle me!

I am a lover of DL play, which is why I think I am jumping out of my seat here.
This is going to be just ridiculous.

I listed Neal here, but I think Coach is thinking of using him as a LB, which is okay by me.
Maybe this means that there will be no offer to Kimbrough? shrug

Any way, I am off point here. If Coach Meyer signs another stud DL I think I will just pass the fuck out.

  • Know this and know this now:

If the d-line for the next 5 years even lives up to HALF of their potential they'll be a top 5 d-line for that time frame. However, if they live up to most of their potential, they easily have the chance to look and be better than LSU's d-line a couple of years ago. They'll be SEC grade A quality except they'll be playing in the B1G which means they look like one of the greatest groups of all time.

The last year or 2 of Urban at Florida the DL was stacked with 4 and 5 star kids. When Meyer got Shariff I looked at his DL recruits and it was 5 star after 5 star......Urban recruits DL very, vey well!

  • I also want to say I am a believer that Defensive success starts at the d-line. So if you have as little as a moderate to good group of LBs or CBs/S the defense can still be EXTREMELY destructive. The best QB in the Nation can be turned into a mediocre QB if the d-line is constantly in his face for the entire game and blessed with speed to be able to pursue the QB out of the pocket, simply put any QB would make mistakes and get rattled....OFTEN!

Now I don't think we have a moderate to good secondary, I think its pretty good actually. So you couple a good secondary with a d-line that looks to be one of the best in the nation for the next couple of years, it spells wins, it spells blowouts, it spells opposing offense obliteration, and most importantly IT SPELLS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS because a great D is what it takes to win those.

  • Good points all.

I am having a hard time thinking clearly about this issue as I simply can't contain my excitement!
I am about to run down the hall where my office is and start shouting GO BUCKEYES and FRACK scUM!

I need to cool it as I don't want to get fired, but this is just bananas!

Nothing like getting mentioned in the same group as LSU & FLAs DL! That group with Floyd and some of the other kids was sick for sure.

LSU, well enough said. Those dudes could control a game and that's what I am hoping happens with this unit.
Coach Fickell has just been given the keys to the Lamborghini and he's going to wreck the damn B10 with this group! No doubt about it!

  • We were on the receiving end of a d-line like that not many years ago. Not fun.

  • You're soft-selling it, unless Steve Miller and Chase Ferris transferred and Billy Price de-committed...

    dmagnus1

  • Just taking a minute and thinking of the other side of the ball. The offensive line practicing everyday against this group can only get better. You know that who they compete with on Saturdays will never be in the same class as the group they practice against!

Hell they will look forward to Saturday games just for the break!

    OSURocks

  • On paper the D-line looks set for the next 4-5 years at least. I share everyone's enthusiasm. I'll temper my enthusiasm somewhat in that we are talking primarily about sophomores, freshmen, and high school seniors at this point. But I certainly see the potential for the D-line to be truly dominant, perhaps ever more so that the National Championship D-line, which was awesome.

    DAMN IT!

I can't remember all these damn studs on the defense. Thanks Dmagnus for just underscoring the problem and excitement that I have.

I can't get it right at all in trying to name all the beasts on the line that will terrorize quarterbacks for years to come!
And just think, I heard some dick wad on the Big10 network Spring game telecast talking about how Wisky was the team to beat in the Big Ten because they got Danny O' Brien. lol

    blah blah blah blah

That clown clearly didn't check the recruiting rosters of the Bucks and come to the conclusion that it is a BAD, BAD time to be QB in the Big Ten when you plan to line up against those Buckeyes!!

  • While I am extremely excited like everyone else and I realize that we will be able to rotate highly recruited players in on every play there are still only 4 spots on the field at any given time. A lot of people are proclaiming that the recent D-line haul automatically guarantees us greatness. The spread offense is designed to make quick reads, fast play and negate a defensive pass rush. So we still need Linebackers and db's who can make plays. I'm not saying we don't have them just that there are a lot of D-lineman on this team to fill 4 spots.

That being said It is true the game is won in the trenches and i believe that we are well stocked at Dline. I also agree that it will foster competition and help the o-line making us a better team. However, I just hope we dont have injuries on the o-line and struggle offensively while we have 15 d-lineman sitting on the bench. I also, think that eventually something has to give. I think the talent will rise to the top which will be good for us but all these guys have plans of going pro and feel like the ones that find themselves without much playing time will seek it elsewhere so we might not find ourselves exactly where we think we will be in a few years

My question is how in the hell are we going to get these players in? Let's say we redshirt the entire 2013 class, we will still have a surplus of talent.

We have 3 guaranteed weaksides in Miller, Washington, and Spence. Goebel and Bellamy are 2 guranteed tackles. The rest of them are strongside-defensive tackle hybrids. You also forgot 2 more on that list in Kenny Hayes and Chase Farris.

I have no figgin' idea, so you raise a good point.
All I can say is that there will be platoons of beastly Buckeyes rotating to maintain fresh legs on each snap!

Someone is going to get hit and hit very, very hard on the opposing squad. I would venture to say that the onslaught will be unlike anything witnessed by the B10.

I JUST LOVE THE THOUGHT OF THIS!

Im scared. I could see Spence and Washington rotating a lot (like every series), but the tackles are going to need to rotate like every other play or so. Thank god none of the offenses in the B1G run no-huddles. We also forgot The Big Hungry Chris Carter. I think he is going to be a beast against teams like Wisconsin and in goal-line situation.
