Paterno family at it again

  • Their attorney apparently sent a letter to Emmert demanding a repeal of the sanctions. These people crack me up, thinking they are the equivalent to the Corleones. The only member of that family with any clout is dead. Jay and the fat son are douches.

  • Hopefully the insanity will end at some point.

  • Thankfully, I missed the whole PSU debacle, thus I am going to defer to my previously unbeknownst to me alter ego, wildebuck, to comment on this latest development.

  • What exactly are they trying to accomplish? Joe's legacy is tarnished beyond repair in most people's eyes. If that is their end game, they've already failed. If they want to NCAA to lift the sanctions, again they'll fail. They might be able to take it to court and get the case heard, but I doubt a court orders a private organization to change its decision on a member of said organization. And if they just want the NCAA to follow due process and launch its own investigation, I say be careful what you wish for. What if they turn up more dirt and this was just the tip of the iceberg? If I'm a Penn State fan, I'd be nervous of what else Joe might have hidden.

  • Problem is that the court won't hear it as the penalized organization didn't make a motion for appeal. It's not like PSU is a minor child and needs an adult to speak on their behalf. My guess is Jay needs a job he's qualified for. Speaking of which my counters and toilets need cleaned.......

  • I would think at this point they would just shut up and lay low for a decade. What's done is done.

  • Peesu needs a reality check. Mr.Emmert STILL might not be done handing out sanctions. Secondly they're damn lucky they are still members of the NCAA.

Im sure the NCAA will let peesu know where the lion shits in the woods

Their fans are all excited about this news. Like I said, if I were them I wouldn't want people to keep looking around. I'd take what the NCAA dished out and leave it at that.

I understand why they are upset. The media and court of public opinion essentially made the whole situation about JoePa.

Where is the media and public demand to have Spanier investigated and possibly charged? Or to have Curley and Schultz tried and punished?

I know JoePa was involved in the coverup. However, I think at this point he has become a scapegoat / fall guy. PSU is more than happy to let JoePa take the fall as it tries to move on.

A lot of people have lost sight of doing anything for Sandusky's victims, and weeding out / punishing others involved.

I still think law enforcement / DA, media, etc... still needs to answer question of why nothing was done about Sandusky until November of 2011 when there was enough to investigate him in 1998.

  • These people are really getting under my skin. Every time this thing starts to go away they pipe up. They make me sick. Its time for them to get a life and quit trying to feed off the carcass of joePa and his tainted legacy. So afraid they may lose the gravy train of being a Paterno.

The problem is the fans / public put Joe pa high on a pedestal (a very high pedestal). The higher up the greater the fall and rightfully so. What Joe pa did or failed to do was sick.

Or perhaps they realize they are the only ones left who can salvage his legacy.

Don't see anyone else saying anything positive about him at this point. The media focus and court of public opinion on / against JoePa reminds me of what Tressel went through.

It was as if Jim Tressel never did anything positive at OSU or as a head coach. His legacy became the player from YSU, Maurice Clarett, Troy Smith, Tat 5, etc...

Our country loves to build people up as much as possible, and then tear them down - see Tressel, Michael Phelps, Joe Paterno, etc... If this was not the case more than a handful of people would be paying attention to Spanier, Curley, Schultz, etc... but most are still focused solely on JoePa.

  • Kid Columbus-
Absolutely agree. They also agreed to not appeal. I'm starting to hope Emmert smacks another year on them

  • Here it is! We should have known this was coming! They really think they are going to get somewhere with this garbage! I wonder if all their players weren't leaving if they would have pursued this route? They keep beating the "Due Process" drum. NCAA sanctions are not subject to "due process." It's an organizational rule, not a court of law. The school agreed to the sanctions, although the president said he did it under duress when confronted with the death penalty for 4 years, and (of course)the alumni and fan base started whining like spoiled brat rich kids.

  • It will be interesting to see how this works out. This is a desperate attempt by a school that projected itself (falsely as we now know) as cleaner than new fallen snow. I'm no lawyer, but I do see a possible restraining order placed on the NCAA holding the sanctions until the legal process is complete with Curley & Schultz. This grandstand act may have already been in the works from day one. They are now pulling out all stops (to no avail) to save their beloved, & now VERY TAINTED program.

Don't worry guys, those arrogant pedophile protectors will still get theirs! Wait and see!

  • Think about "Due Process" for a moment. Using that idea, OSU's coach & players didn't commit any illegal acts 18 months or so ago. Trading ones personal belongings for goods or services is 100% legal in this country. So is a man deciding he saw nothing majorly wrong with that and therefore, not telling the NCAA. It just violated some possibly outdated NCAA bylaws. Should OSU have received any sanctions at all using the same logic? On the other hand, not disclosing knowledge of child molestation is a felony. Let alone not acting on it to protect the reputation of the university and it's football program thus, allowing it to continue unchecked for years. Case closed! They're toast!

  • Joe Paterno used to call the shots, and his family now disgraced and out of power. Joe Paterno's reputation and official all-time victories are gone for good. His family needs to STFU and let PSU try to get this mess behind them before they become Penn State Community College.

  • I took this from an article from USA today

The NCAA quickly rejected their plan. "The Penn State sanctions are not subject to appeal," spokesman Bob Williams said.
