Rivals top 100 2013

  • Buckeye commit Cam Burrows is ranked number 7 and Jalin Marshall is ranked 41. I was shocked and thought they would be flipped.

  • I figured Rivals would rank Burrows higher, because he was on their early short list of 5* guys. The way I see it, all the recruiting outlets I've seen seem to have the 2013 recruits we've offered at an average of around 4*. If we can pull in a recruiting haul where our recruits grade out at an average near or above 4* (a VERY rare occurrence in recruiting) for a couple years, that bodes very well for our national championship aspirations.

  • Rivals is big on combine numbers. Cam's numbers are off the charts, Marshalls are very very good.

  • I think that because Marshall's listed as an "athlete," which means he could play several positions, Rivals didn't quite know where to put him--QB, which is what he plays in HS? RB, which he's shown he has the ability to be an outstanding runner? WR, which is what most people project him as in college but, to quote Tom Brady's wife, he can't throw and catch his own passes, so he doesn't have any receiving stats. I think his rating is lower because he's a square peg and they want him to fit neatly into a round hole and since he doesn't, they don't know quite what to do with him. It's as if his versatility somehow was used against him.

And being the 41st best player in the country ain't nothing to be ashamed about. BTW, Scout's got him listed as a 5-star and the #1 RB in the 2013 class.
