A poster on EW is now saying that it's Giovanni Bernard from UNC and that it's a done deal.

He would be a great pick-up--smaller, shiftier back built along the Hall/Berry line, and from a Florida football factory (can you say Duron Carter?). His older brother is Yvenson Bernard, who played at Oregon State, spent some time in the NFL and is now in the CFL. Maybe the Bernard boys like playing for schools with the initials OSU.

Great 2011 stats: 1253 yards and 13 TDs rushing, 45 catches for 362 yards and 1 TD receiving.

Florida football didn’t begin with Ron Zook, Florida’s history of dominance in college ball since 1990

Your dominance in college football before Meyer got there???

Put the crack pipe down dude. Steve Superior won ONE freaking national title in his entire tenure at Flordia.

Fact is...Alabama has owned that conference and once again owns it now that who is gone?? Umm....oh that's right...Urban Meyer.

And...I'll go so far as to say this....Ohio State will win a national title before Florida wins their next one. You guys made Meyer..sounds even stupider when I read it today.

Well, Saban was starting to kick Urban's ass before he left.

Urban may have saw the writing on the wall (aka Saban's upcoming conference dominance) and got the hell out of there. One can't really blame him.

Now he's in an easier conference with an elite program.

Saban, saban, Saban, Maybe that was Nick's logic when he ran away from the NFL. Furthermore, I dont remember Saban winning many B10 titles when there were actual rules to follow.

  • Okay, now this thread was supposed to be about an impending transfer – so I’ll take my seat…

@ Neptune, I never have a problem with intelligently written content that relates to Ohio State football.

Most dominate program in football right now- ALABAMA.

Best coach in college football RIGHT NOW- Nick Saban.

Urban saw what he was building.

Either way, it worked out well for OSU. The only time Urban will have to deal with that guy is in a a BCS or NC game.

Do you doubt Spurrier's dominance of the SEC from 1990-2001?
Those are the years in question since we've already eliminated Zook from the equation (or at least accounted for him) and established our baseline as 1990. Check my post reponse to Finezt on page 3 cataloguing Spurrier's records. What is it you're not getting?

Alabama owned nothing in that time frame. Spurrier faced Bama 8 times in his tenure and won six of those games.
Spurrier was 11-1 against LSU, too, and owned the East. I never claimed Florida was THE dominant program, merely asserted that we were a dominant program - I would say that's irrefutable, but continue to smoke all the crack you want - I won't hate.

Urban was not Urban during those last two or three years. You don't just walk away twice without having problems. If he didn't have the enthusiasm it would have affected recruiting and every other on and off-field aspect of the program. Chances are if he felt like he does now Florida would have remained at or near the top.

  • So this is a thread about a big time transfer right?

Just wondering with all of the Urban, and Spurrier talk. The past is the past for a reason.

To be fair, he was trying to do it at Michigan State, not in Columbus or Ann Arbor. Or even Evanston at that point in time.

To be fair, the transfer talk is just about exhausted. It has been narrowed down to Giovanni Bernard RB from UNC. I think people have run out of guesses.

    I agree.

Its just pointless to debate over what coach was better, and who kicked whos tail, and what coach screwed which team.

    Let's go to school neptune.

Let's break down the numbers of your boy Steve Superior and your alleged dominance of Florida football under his command.

First...The SEC when he was coach was not the same SEC that you see now.

Second...Steve Superior did great in the SEC, that's why you only post those numbers.

He had a losing record to Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Notre Dame..all occ teams.

He had a losing winning percentage against the ACC and was .500 against The Big East and The Big Ten.

He was the John Cooper of the SEC that got lucky enough to win a national title.

I will stipulate your first point that the SEC during the period of 1990-2001 was not the same as it is now. But it wasn’t chopped liver either. For those years the SEC can claim three national championships (Bama in ’92, UF in ’96, and Tennessee in ’98). Note that three programs, representing both divisions hoisted crystal footballs in that time span. No other conference can claim that particular distinction.

By contrast, the B1G can claim one, shared, national champion (Michigan in ’97). Other conferences had multiple titles, but in nearly every case, it was the same program represented in multiple years.

I stand by my earlier claim that Spurrier’s dominance of the SEC from 1990-2001 is a significant achievement and cannot be glossed over with some inanity like; “The SEC when he was coach was not the same SEC that you see now.”

Your second allegation, that I only make mention of Spurrier’s SEC numbers is wrong, too. I mentioned in earlier postings his 122 wins in 12 years; certainly they were not all against his SEC opponents.

You are correct that I focused more on his SEC stats, but there’s a simple explanation for that: fans of SEC teams care more about conference records than almost anything else. National titles are important, but are largely out of a team’s control – which is why an SEC ring means so much to us. There is no media hype and no polling with which to contend. Your conference record gets you in the game and then you have the chance to win the conference crown on the field. I’m sure you can appreciate how much that means, now that you have your own title crown to pursue (via a championship game) every year.

Yes, Spurrier had a losing record against Florida State, so what?. During nearly all of those years, FSU was the preeminent program in the country. You’d be hard pressed to find a coach that didn’t have a losing record against FSU in that time. Spurrier was the only coach to defeat FSU when they were ranked No.1 twice in a row.

We only played Miami one time and lost in the Sugar Bowl. No shame in that; you do know about that Miami team, right? They won it all the next year. Ditto Nebraska. We played them one time. They destroyed us – they were arguably one of the best teams ever assembled. No shame in that loss, either (well the way it transpired was shameful, but you know what I mean, I think).

We played Notre Dame once, too, and lost in the Sugar Bowl.

The MSU team we played (first and only meeting) was the Saban-coached team that beat you guys that same year (course, Saban had just left for LSU). I don’t think you’d say they were a crap team would you? In fact, the only resemblance Spurrier has to Cooper is he lost to the same Saban-coached MSU team. Of course, he lost in a worthless, second-tier bowl game. Cooper lost while ranked No. 1 at home.

    School’s in session.

Ron Zook is a lesser John Cooper. I've never seen 2 guys who had so much talent that couldn't get over the hump. Zook had some great players at Illinois and couldn't do a thing with them

Go ahead and add Mark Richt to this list and then I am sold.

Dude has his pickings in the ripe state of Florida and never wins a damn thing!
No SEC, NO BCS BOWL, NO BIG GAMES, and sure as hell..................NO NATIONAL TITLES!!

Mark Richt appears to be a nice dude, but winning is not one of his finer claims to fame!

Not gonna argue with you anymore dude.

Spurrier had a losing record in bowl games.

He couldn't beat his in state rivals.

He amassed a monster winning percentage.

Like I said, he was the SEC's version of John Cooper. Only difference is we don't have a man crush on Cooper.
