I've got your back, Nut. Gave you a +1 because I couldn't agree with you more. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Nebraska game was the most disappointing loss I can remember. We had those MFs beat, up by 21 halfway through the 3rd Quarter. They couldn't get their running game on track while ours was clicking on all cylinders and then Braxton got hurt, Bollman brought in Bowserman, and instead of sticking with the run and chewing up yards to run out the clock, Bollman panicked and started passing and it became three and out. It was Braxton's mobility that kept Nebraska's D off balance and Guiton would have been logically the next closest thing. Our DL got tired and Nebraska came back. As soon as Overthrow Joe came in, I threw up my hands and said, "That's it--ball game." He went 1 for 11 with 3 QB hurries and an INT. I swear if I'm on my deathbed muttering, "Why? Why? Why?" and no one understands what I'm whining about, that will be why.
Bollman handed Nebraska that win more than they earned it.

Anything would have been better than putting in Bauserman. I hate saying that and I'm not trying to be mean but seriously!
I'd have rather rotated every single RB we had with Guiton back there and ran the wild cat every other play or hell....put John Simon back there to run some people over....anything but Bauserman.

Fickell said he did during the season. He was asked point blank in the presser leading up to (I believe) the Illinois game -- some girl during the presser asked him straight up "Do you have the authority to hire/fire" and he responded jokingly "Well, who would I have to ask, my wife?" and essentially nodded yes after some chuckles from the audience. I remember watching it live and thinking to myself as he said it "Well Fick, you just took full responsibility for Bollman's incompetence in both play-calling and personnel decisions" -- because up until that statement most people just assumed he couldn't fire Bollman and that's why Bollman was still on staff.
And Bearbuck, I agree 100% about the captains. I wasn't sure how big of a deal it would be pre-season in 2011, but we sure saw during and after the season that there was just no leadership at all on that team.

Give us your upinion:
I am starving for football and having been watching some replays on the B1G network. It seems like they only show the teams beating Ohio State (its great to be on top).
As I watched each of the games closely it is my opinion these games were very winnable. In particular the Neb game. If we would have put Guiton in we win this game.
What say you guys?

Wow.... I completely missed hearing about that!!
You know I didn't peg us to win every game last season....and my prediction at the time was an 8-4 or 9-3 season....I just thought that a 1st time ever head coach and a true freshman QB would make for a very challenging task.....and winning every game was just not realistic IMO...
But the not naming of captains IMO really set this team back. At the very least John Simon should have been named captain....and if I had been in Fickell's situation....I'd have named Miller at the least an assistant captain and captain of the offense. I'd have showed him that win or lose I have complete trust and confidence in his ability.
Just maybe it would have encouraged Miller to take that next step and maybe...it could have been all the difference. Either way...at the very least you'd have a leader on offense and defense and direction for the rest of the team to look to.

Gave you a + 1 on all your posts on this thread......good observations and a fun topic to discuss.
I've been bored outta my a$$ craving Buckeye football and thought the same things you did.
Plus....don't know if anyone saw this on Big Ten Network but I sure as hell didn't think MIke Hart was the number 1 running back of the 2000's! I found that laughable! He went 0-4 against his arch-rival....
Now I'm not saying he wasn't a great RB cause as much as we can't stand his ever-running motor mouth...the guy could run and I'd definitely have him in the top 10....just not # 1!

I don't think the offense is why we lost the Nebraska game. My belief is giving up 28 points defensively in the second half is why we lost that game. Bauserman can come in and just not screw up. If we hold on defensively and make a stop......we win.
The defense quit.

I'm not sure if the defense was tired or frustrated or both. As someone said earlier if we would have run the ball, used effective players and used good click management this game would have come out

I think that would've helped the defense. For sure. I just have a hard time blaming the QB for it. Yeah the playcalling was terrible. I did not understand why we were throwing the ball with a blowout lead and a defense that was fading. But i just feel the defense quit and in spite of not being helped offensively, they should;ve done better. We made Martinez and that fullback of theirs look like all americans.

I tried to bring you back up a few times. I didn't dv you, but I imagine it was just a mistake. That's generally the way I take unexplained downvotes on this site, anyway. I'd like to think all of us Bucknuts Buckeye fans have enough balls to argue points rather than just dv people for the heck of it.

Well, here's a +1 for you just for the hell of it. I don't get butt hurt over it, either. I don't think nutbuster deserved it, though. Strangely, the WTF monkey that shows up on your posts seemingly does get butt hurt by it, which for some reason is making me laugh right now, and that's worth many upvotes to me today. Rough freakin' day.

Couldn't agree with you more!
Apparently The Big Ten Network is on board with celebrating mediocrity. No one can be exceptional....we all have to be equal.
Ohio State has had an exceptional program this past decade. But we don't want to showcase that...it's not fair.
...and sometimes it's just plain pi$$ poor!
