a complete and total clusterf^ck...one player murdered another...the investigation revealed players taking drugs (with coaches' and administrators' knowledge)...recruiting violations...encouraging players and parents to lie to ncaa investigators...coaches paying kids' scholarships...an absolute mess

IMO I think it is hard to make the conclusion that it would have impacted recruiting. Look at our class for 2013 with all of the information out there. Granted, this lass has the benefit of time removed from the incidents, but it isn't as if the acts were taking place against recruits/players. Just think it is hard to definitively conclude a negative impact.
Also, the statue will come down in my opinion. Library will keep its name. Joe made a terrible mistake, but he positively enriched the lives of thousands through his generosity and passion for education.

Well BoomBoom, I went over to PSU's messageboard to get a few laughs at the insanity and I was not disappointed. After skimming through a few particular posters' posts in this thread (http://pennstate.247sports.com/Board/18/FYI-Latest-Tweet-from-Joe-Schad-about-Sanctions-10683409/1) I must admit, I want the death penalty for these idiots even more, now. I just can't believe the extreme to which they are out of touch with reality.
I was over on CNN reading their primary article on PSU and I was happy to see a lot of replies calling for the death penalty also. Just hope the NCAA does what they need to do and comes down hard. PSU should be slammed way harder than SMU.

I was listening to the sports station out here and even was listening to ESPIN for their thoughts. I was amazed at how many people as well as the host were saying the same thing. They feel that psu is ready to move on so we can play football. They also want the death penalty. I could only listen to bits and pieces but people are really pissed that psu is viewing this as Time To Move On (now that it is open).

Well, maybe a better penalty than the death penalty would be probation equal to the time of the offense, which was about 14 years. Lose 5 schollies a year for 14 years, 14 year bowl ban and all profits from the football program go to a charity for victims of sexual abuse for 14 years. It might be good for PSU to bottomfeed for a while.
The reasons possibly to avoid the death penalty are a few---it really screws up scheduling for every team the plays PSU, it really screws all of the kids currently on scholarship that had nothing to do with it (although all penalties do this), and in PSU's defense, they did cooperate with the NCAA once the investigation was started (I know, not much).

This is new territory. There is nothing in the NCAA books about the Pres, VP, AD, and HC conspiring to cover up for a famous former coach who is raping little boys on campus, so it will be hard to prove anyone broke NCAA rules. At least that is what whatever NCAA legal experts are telling Joe Schad of E$PeeIN. This is going to be real interesting to see how this plays out.

Eh...Urban Meyer had NCAA contacts he talked to and so did Gene Smith. They all said there was no precedent for a bowl ban in Ohio State's case and guess what.... :) The NCAA has no rhyme or reason to when they decide to do what they do, so who knows what will happen.

Pretty sure it's still a free country so I'll go where I please, thank you very much.
Second, I don't see where I cried about anything, just shared an opinion - again free country.
Third, I don't like Kool Aid.
Fourth, what fun is it to stand in a room and only talk with people who have the same or at least similar opinions. Just trying to get and give a different perspective on the situation.
Finally, I never saw a sign on the door of our site that says "No Buckeyes Allowed!". I'm an adult capable of interacting with those who may not share my opinions or beliefs. If others can't that's their problem, but please do me a favor and not lump me in with the whack job PSU fan and I will not lump you in wih the crazy Buckeye fan unless you start to act like one - fair enough?

i gave you a +1 because i agree you said nothing offensive but it was your 4th point i respect most...i give you credit for your apparent willingness to be enlightened
but a word to the wise: the bucknuts free boards are not the place to throw around the first amendment... as we learned a few weeks ago, the right to speak one's mind freely really doesn't exist here... in other words, don't confuse "free board" with free speech... because if that were applied without prejudice, no one would ever be banned, including smith2ginn, who was banned from the psu board until 1/1/14 after his (presumably honest but probably unflattering) post was deleted and he posted again likening its removal to the cover-up at psu...
other than that, i think we need to be above the kind of pettiness and paranoid behavior that seems to be plaguing the psu board right now...for those who remember, buckeye fans acted just as defensively last year...if someone comes here in peace, why tar and feather him and run him off the site on a rail?

Should PSU self impose penalties?
