Sometimes I hate Sports

  • I'm in my 50's and was just commenting to my bride that sometimes I wish I had never fallen in love with Sports. I would have to say that by far there have been more Valley's than Peaks for me with regards to sports. Not only in my personal pursuit of athletics but in my 4 sons pursuit and of course in agonizing of OSU, the Browns, the Reds, the Cavaliers, etc. This basketball team has just pushed me over the edge today. Obviously way over-rated at the beginning of the season and limping home badly this year.

My mom graduated with Czonka, one of the highlights for me as a kids was when Czonka came to my 12th birthday

X2, Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds here. I swear if they let Votto go though i'm going with him. Enough is enough, and they don't charge small market prices so I don't care to pay for a big market product while getting garbage. Anyway, that rant was just to say I agree lol.

If Votto goes that it's for me......I walk straight into the Scioto River and end it all :)

Haha! I've seen rumors of a long term deal in the works behind the scenes for Votto. I was confident something was going to get done when they let Alonso go.

Anyways, I'm with the rest of you. A Buckeye loss on Saturday ruins my entire day. Sad but true!

Formerly "Buckeye47Fan". Couldn't carry over my handle, why 247 ?

  • Dayton, I still don't know how I became a Dolphin fan growing up in Dillonvale OH. I still have the whole teams player cards from 1970-1983. Stopped collecting when I graduated high school and moved to Ga.

  • robkelly, I'm still trying to figure out how to make money!! HaHa
I used to restore cars. It would take me a couple years for each one. Then I'd sell it.
My main passion is of course my family. My passion outside of family is tOSU. My blood is S&G!! I have a landscape crew in northwest FL. The back of our 28" trailer is a HUGH Ohio State Logo. I get folks honking their horns all the time.

    dkbuckeyes

  • I agree. I love buckeyes, bengals, and reds. I see big things coming for all of these teams though. I also love Xavier basketball.

Damn right. Not a Dolphin fan but Czonka ranks up there amongst my favorite backs of all time. The only back I think to receive unnecessary roughness penalties. The young kids here won't know about him...but too bad for them. It was a different game back then, better IMO, the NFL has lost me along the way for various reasons.

Earl Campbell ranked up there too.

+1....That's why I pretty much have written-off all professional sports....I realized a long time ago that (for me) it was dumb, and stupid to waste my personal feelings, time, emotions and money on a bunch of so-called "pros" that don't even give 100% effort on the field, although they cash-in on the millions to play a "game". I love amateur sports...and the Buckeyes are my sole weakness (yes, it ruins my day, week, month and year) when they lose...especially in Football. I admit, I've gotten "too attached" to the Basketball Team, and now they are ruining my days...lol. Oh well, bottom line....there's a lot more important things in life. I reflect on my combat days...and then all comes back into perspective.

  • been a cleveland and ohio state fan my whole life. i dont have a ton to root for. i survived the calendar year of January 7, 2007 to January 8, 2008 by witnessing: ohio state football lose to florida, cleveland browns be one of 6(or something like that) teams ever to not make the playoffs after going 10-6, ohio state basketball lose a national title, cleveland cavaliers lose the nba title, cleveland indians blow a 3-1 lead to boston when they would have walked with the world series, then watch the buckeyes lose to lsu in the national title. couldnt get a single championship out of FIVEEEEE championship opportunities. if i survived those 365 days, i can survive anything with sports

  • I feel like I spend too much time (like now) worrying about a bunch of 18-22 year old kids who could care less about me or most other fans, If they win, what do I really get...just some pride for a short time? If they lose (which is more likely) why do I feel so bad when I was not even involved??? It all seems pretty stupid when I really stop and think about it.

    buckeyeinwv

  • If I had half of the money and energy I put into the buckeyes I would be pretty well off right now. I know these kids owe me nothing but for the love of god I wish they knew what the Buckeyes mean to us. I wish they could see how much It kills me when I see them piss everything they have away making dumb choices in life. When a kid commits to OSU he become family and this basketball team doesn't get it.

    derftyhbuin

  • The basketball team seemed to do very well when they were running, running, running.
When other teams make them play their game....no so good.
Someone needs to tell Thad that you only get points by putting the ball through that round metal thing with the strings on it. You do not get points for walking the ball down the court , passing it around 30 seconds and either taking a bad shot or committing a turnover.
Putting to leading scorer (hot shooter) on the bench for so long didn't help.

  • I am 55 years old and have been a huge Indians,Browns and Buckeyes fan since I was probably eight and Cavs since they showed up in 1970.My son is 25 now and I advise him to NOT care or live and die with these spoiled idiots outcomes like I was and have a life and do things that are important. The older I get the less I give a sh1t about any of these fools.
I was bored the other day and decided to look up the Cleveland teams records since I have been a fan,1964.

Indians 3705-3922 217 games under .500 take away the good years of 94-99 they are 388 games under .500 62 years since they won a World Series! With this miserly ownership they have now,I will be taking my dirt nap before they ever sniff one.

Browns 220-291 and have never been in a Super Bowl and last won the title in 64,PATHETIC!

Cavs 1540-1790 250 under .500 never won shit either. Used to go down to the Coluseum and sit wherever we wanted,it was so quite you could hear the heaters in the rafters running.Take away the few years where thumb dick was here and the record really sucks.

I have had a problem with this basketball team all year while being called a "hater, whiner, complainer",ect by the "everything is all peaches and cream" crowd.
There is alot wrong with this team and I expected alot more from them but after it was over yesterday, the new me took the dogs for a walk, came home and was productive, these guys don`t mean a damn to me,so why lose sleep over them?

  • Indy, saw a special on Campbell awhile back. You might have saw it. That dude can hardly walk. I surprised Czonka is not in the same shape.

    dkbuckeyes

  • dk...I've been watching football for a long time, in all my years I never saw a back take more punishment than Earl. It always seemed like it took 3-4 players to bring him down. It doesn't surprise me one bit that he's in bad shape. I'll have to keep my eye open for that special.
