Sometimes I hate Sports

  • I'm soon to be 55 on blood pressure meds. there's many games like Sundays I just got to turn it off and walk away. My wife says why do you allow yourself to get so worked up? Can't help it! football season was tough last year thank goodness for alot of beer to calm the nerves!

been a cleveland and ohio state fan my whole life. i dont have a ton to root for. i survived the calendar year of January 7, 2007 to January 8, 2008 by witnessing: ohio state football lose to florida, cleveland browns be one of 6(or something like that) teams ever to not make the playoffs after going 10-6, ohio state basketball lose a national title, cleveland cavaliers lose the nba title, cleveland indians blow a 3-1 lead to boston when they would have walked with the world series, then watch the buckeyes lose to lsu in the national title. couldnt get a single championship out of FIVEEEEE championship opportunities. if i survived those 365 days, i can survive anything with sports

Yeah, that stretch was a rough one. I sure as hell hope it builds character.

  • This basketball team makes me feel like Charlie Brown approaching the football wiht hope and anticipation, and every time Lucy pulls it away and yells "got-yah". Will we ever learn!

I'm much less emotional over this stuff these days compared to years past. I actually missed the 2002 NC final minutes where we won because I threw some stuff at the TV and shut it off when Gamble dropped the pass in the end zone which seemed like it was the end of the game and our loss. Seriously...I missed the call and the win because I stormed upstairs and threw a fit!

I don't get worked up over this stuff anymore, I enjoy the games and have fun with them, if we lose I'm disappointed but jump right back into "life" as soon as it's over, same with the victory. Years past I'd drive my wife away and anybody else who was around watching a game because I got so worked up and I realized OSU football was a negative factor in the house rather than a joy and something to share and have fun with. Much different now, family/fiends don't head for the hills anymore and we can all watch together if they're so inclined. My wife actually bought a OSU windbreaker when we were out for the MSU game last fall which she wears once in a while now and hopefully the negative connotations associated with fall college football from the years past are fading away.

  • 41 here and believe me every loss still hurts, I think i put up a little wall around my feelings after the MSU loss in I think 98 when we were clearly the best football team in the nation and got passed over on the NCG.

Guess my wall has shown me more that the media and marketing has made these tournaments and championship games mean so much that we just invest all our emotions into a team, OSU could win the national championship this year and there would be plenty of fans moaning and complaining on a loss next year, just the nature of the game. No longer do fans accept a great season by winning our division, its national championship or busts for fans.

Dude me too! thank God had it taping. Thats what I do now DVR it, if I get pissed turn it off walk away decide later if it's worth watching. Keep asking myself why do you care so much? Must be all those years growing up loving the Buckeyes dreaming of playing there. GO BUCKS!

Dayton, I still don't know how I became a Dolphin fan growing up in Dillonvale OH. I still have the whole teams player cards from 1970-1983. Stopped collecting when I graduated high school and moved to Ga.

Aaahhhh....you liked a winner and how they played the game with the power running and timely passing?

Damn right. Not a Dolphin fan but Czonka ranks up there amongst my favorite backs of all time. The only back I think to receive unnecessary roughness penalties. The young kids here won't know about him...but too bad for them. It was a different game back then, better IMO, the NFL has lost me along the way for various reasons.

Earl Campbell ranked up there too.

LOL.... I forgot about him getting flagged for "unnecessary roughness"! Yeh right, on a running back! roflmao

  • Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick & Mercury Morris tore the NFL up early seventies. "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" Wasn't Csonka & Kiick 1st tandem running backs to both have over 1000 yrd. in the same season?

  • I'm 39 and I can't believe how worked up I still get over OSU and my kids sports. This year I coached my daughters 4th grade bball team. When we lost, my day was ruined. I was just pissed off all day, same as after an OSU loss. My wife sat me down about half way through the season and asked me to take it easy. She said, I will give you football season, but I can't take you being a bad mood and pissed at the world for two sports seasons. She's right!
