The B1G vs PAC 12

  • Our top 6 teams vs their top 6 teams, who wins?

    Ohio State
    Nebraska
    Michigan State
    Wisconsin
    Penn State
    m!chigan

    USC
    Oregon
    Stanford
    Washington
    Arizona
    Arizona State

Or if you think it should be diffident teams. Who should play who

  • OSU-USC: Call it the Bowl Ban Bowl if you want but as long as we're not going to be in one this year, I'll take a shot at the Pac-12's #1 team. I'll even play them in the Coliseum.

    scUM-Stanford
    MSU-Nike U
    Wisconsin-Cal
PSU-Washington (would have said Nebraska but they just played UDubya two years ago)

After that, I'm not sure the Pac-12 has anyone else that's on the same level as Nebraska. Time will tell with Zona, UCLA, ASU, which all have new HCs.

  • This would be an interesting round-robin tourney. I wish the conferences would get together and do a B10/PAC10 Challenge together similar to the way the ACC & B10 do in basketball. It would be fun to see over a 11 year stretch (so each team plays each team from the other conference once) who would come out the better conference and which teams would come out on top and bottom.

If it was only a one year type of arrangement I would hope the games would look like this
OSU vs Oregon...just because I hate Oregon and would like to see OSU kick their ass
Mich vs USC...tradition and Mich would get their ass kicked which is always fun to watch
Wisc vs Stanford...Similar type of programs. Neither get the top talents/recruits, but both seem to excel
Mich St vs Cal, Oregon St. or Az State...Different styles...would be fun to watch
Nebr vs Cal, Oregon St. or Az State
Penn St. vs Az...I would like to see OSU vs Arizona also since Rich Rod has handed OSU so many victories over the last few years. It would be nice to see RR back in the Shoe
    Northwestern vs Washington

  • Nice post for some spring conjecture. I'll stick with the teams you chose and guess on records if each team played every opponent from the other conference this season.

    Ohio State (4-2)
    Nebraska (3-3)
    Michigan State (4-2)
    Wisconsin (3-3)
    Penn State (1-5)
    m!chigan (3-3)

    USC (6-0)
    Oregon (5-1)
    Stanford (3-3)
    Washington (2-4)
    Arizona (0-6)
    Arizona State (2-4)

As this works out, I both conferences would have a record of 18-18 and effectively be tied. I think the Big Ten is more balanced, while the PAC 12 is top-heavy.

A B1G/Pac-12 football challenge will start in 2017.

Interesting take on the question Zeus. I agree with most of your records, but I don't think OSU would have 2 losses. I think OSU would be able to beat Oregon. USC would be tough for anyone in the B10 this year in my opinion (as you noted). I am also not sure about Wisc record. They are such a different matchup for anyone in the PAC10. Their style of play could allow them to pull off an extra win (if they find a capable QB). The PAC is just not built for the pound-it-down-your-throat of Wiscy. Good post Zues..upvote for you and Nut (for starting this thread)

Thanks mab! Yeah, the OSU/Oregon match-up was a tough one for me. I figured I'd give Oregon the nod this season, because we'll be breaking in a new offense. Wisconsin was a tough call, too, but since they lost so many assistant coaches, I think they'll suffer a bit. Also, this year's transfer QB isn't nearly as good as Russell Wilson. Their style of play is a problem for most PAC-12 teams, though. The question is whether or not they stick with it. I'm pretty sure they would have beaten TCU the other year if they just kept pounding the ball.

    Zeus,

You may be right with the Oregon over OSU prediction, but I just hate Oregon sooooo much I will not allow myself to believe Oregon would beat OSU. Again, it may be just my bias, but I don't think Oregon's offense would score enough points to beat OSU. I don't think the OSU's offense would put up more than 20, but that should be enough with this defense.

I agree with you on Wiscy. If they pound the ball and their QB is just average I think they beat everyone in the PAC12 except USC. However, if they try to let their QB be a big part of the game they would have 3 or 4 losses in this competition.

  • It'll be interesting to see what Mike Leach does at WSU, which is about as backwater as you can get in the BCS.
