Tressel starts his new job

  • He said people still call him coach and that's just fine.

"That's something I take as a compliment because I feel like a coach is a teacher that does it 24 hours," said Tressel from his new office at Buchtel Hall

  • He says he also continues to stay in touch with some of the players involved in the scandal.

“My kids were my sons. Everyone of them. I just talked to Terrelle (Pryor) two or three days ago. Mike Adams the night he got drafted. DeVier Posey the night he got drafted, Maurice Clarett few days ago. Many of your news-makers, you know those are my kids. And it hasn’t been perfect for them, but they will always be my kids,” said Tressel.

I think most people would probably rather see Tressel's name on the forum than yours. Tress is the man.

  • 3yd +1, I think it's awesome Tress still talks to his former players. That's the way it should be. I really like him taking to Mo.

Never has there been so much love for a man who put a program on the verge of the death penalty beacause of his misguided sense of morality. The Tressel Cult lives on. Why don't you guys go root for Akron?

We're on probation dumb-ass and have already been slapped with the dreaded FTM label. One more hundred dollar handshake will have us in deep shit. Do you think the NCAA will laugh off another transgression in the next few years?

Greatest coach ever? LMAO. Wayne Woodrow Hayes made this program what it is. I know young people have no appreciation of history, but you should Google him to get some understanding of why any of us actually care enough about this program to waste our time here.

Seriously, if you love him that much, you must think he got a raw deal from OSU, so why not show your love of Tressel. and anger toward OSU by becoming an Akron fan and swearing off the Bucks? It's a logical move.

Tressel is a good man and his players KNOW he stood up for them and in the end he took several bullets for others in the line of fire!

  • There's nothing wrong with appreciating what tress did for us. All of us are aware of his transgression but those of us who are smart enough realize his actions likely saved us from much worse.

nope i was one of the few that said he needed to be fired immediately. doesnt mean i suddenly dont appreciate him for the greatest 10 years in the history of the program. much appreciate for woody, but times have changed, significantly more difficult to win now then back then. tressel was a much superior coach. when you cant offer every kid in the country like woody could then it is clearly more difficult, add in the demographics of the country have changed. tress got what he deserved, there's no need to make it sound like he commited a crime. get over it. we're on probation?!?!?!?!?!?!? omg im shaking. plenty of programs have been on probation, not tressel's fault if some other retard comes around during that probation time

Don't hurt yourself apoligizing for him. All the FB related transgressions happened on his watch. He was running a loose ship that cost us. I heard stories going back to Clarett regarding preferential treatment for star players. We now know he often looked the other way vis a vis. Pryor, Smith, and Clarett.

You're right about the demographics of the country today vs. then. But that cuts both ways. The midwest was more populous in relation to the rest of the country, and the B1G was long considered the best conference in the country. Look up the history of schools like Purdue, Mich St., and Minnesota in the '50's and '60's. That was a golden age for the conference. That means Woody had to compete in a better conference than the today's sorry state of the B1G. Besides, the other schools could offer as many schollies as Woody could. If your theory were valid, we would've been a powerhouse before Woody got here in '51, but we weren't. You seem like another kid that thinks time started when you were born.

  • Woody was a great coach. Tressel was a great coach. Both helped make OSU one of the best and most respected college football programs in the nation. Both had embarrassing ends to their football coaching careers. Why compare them? Hopefully Urban will be another great coach for us and will leave on his own terms.
