UM lands 15th recruit

  • I don't care how many commits they have already they still suck. Go Bucks!

    OsuBucks04

  • Amen! As said before, I am tired of seeing all these topics about whoever commits to "them". The only time I ever wanna hear there names at that day care center is when there getting beaten up by tOSU.

  • Luckily many of the children born near SCUM have 15 fingers, there's no other way they could track all of those recruits. When they get their next 3* they're SOL.

  • yeah they still suck.

Haha I don't care how many stars any of their recruits have at this point. They are still gonna get dominated on the field by The Ohio State University. Anyone associated with that school up north is sh*t out of luck. Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye!

    4* on Scout

When are people gonna learn....it's the list of offers that matters and not the star ranking on scout or rivals.....I've said it before and will again....I trust the coaches over some dud from rivals, scout or espn.

  • We all have to remember the Jabba still doesn't know how to recruit at a top school. This is his second ? Full Class, and he's still going after guys that he would be drooling over at fresno st.

Filling the class up with marginal kids in March, not too bright. Could have offered this kid in October and still got him.

  • Recruiting for us will be like a distance race this year. They are trying to get the national kids and that takes time. They are taking the Ohio kids they want early and working on the national kids for the long run. Let TTUN finish their class in a sprint and take all the guppies out of the pond, we are working on landing the whales that will eat the guppies for lunch :)

Yeah he has offers from Northwestern and Toledo, he jumped on that offer from Michigan!

This is the key. Hoke's racking up commitments so fast now, kids are jumping on them, afraid that if they don't commit right away, his class will fill up. Especially Ohio kids who would love to play for OSU but have come to the realization that an offer from Urban isn't going to be coming.

It's not a bad strategy, actually. By assuming an aggressive, leadership stance and creating a sense of urgency, he's forcing kids to commit early. But they are largely midwestern kids who want to play BCS football close to home. Six of his 15 commits are Ohio kids who, with the exception of Thomas, weren't likely to land an offer from OSU in the first place so they're jumping on the next best thing. On the one hand, I can't blame them because scUM beats Northwestern, Toledo, and the rest of the MAC but on the other hand, these early decisions have a whiff of panic and desperation.

Assuming he signs 25 again, his class is already 60% full before any of them have been to a senior camp, a senior 7-on-7 competition or played a single down of their senior year. Hoke's betting on largely unproven talent---Exhibit A: Taco Charlton, who didn't start for Pick Central and was being recruited based on his physical attributes---most of whom last played when they were 16 years old. Not all kids mature at the same pace. David Robinson was 6-7 as a HS senior. No one wanted him except Navy. He grew into a 7-1 Hall of Famer. Just because a kid's 6-5/285 as a 16 year old, that doesn't mean he'll be better than a kid who's 6-4/245 but projects to 6-6/300.

    Haste makes waste.

we need michigan to be good-i hope they get great players-because of two things-one they wont out coach meyer-no way-two-they wont out recruit him either-but we need them to be good-so when we beat them it means something

Nope. More drivel from the clueless..

The Ohio State University doesn't need scUM for anything. Not sure how anyone can't get this through their skulls.

    Stop posting this mess, please!!

Iowa very good points, but at the end of the day no one really cares about what Hoke is doing nor the strategy.

That's my only point. This entire thread shouldn't even be on this board.

Nasty: I hear ya. It was more of a detached analysis, like a court-appointed psychriatrist being asked to evaluate a serial killer's mental competancy. But unlike you, I am actually intrigued by what Hoke is doing. To beat your enemy, you must first understand and respect him. He's trying to replicate what Mack Brown's strategy, which is to fill his class up early. Otherwise, I'm just trying to wake up on a time-forwarded Sunday morning where my clock says it's 10:30 but my body says it's only 9:30.

I watched the kid's tape. I always try to be fair but I'm not especially impressed. The first play was his best play as it was one of only a few that showed him in pass coverage but the others largely featured underthrown balls that he either knocked down or intercepted. Intercepting a desperation heave by a 300 pound lineman turned punter? Or intercepting an underthrown ball by a QB running for his life? Or one kickoff return where he's knocked out of bounds by the kicker? Or sacking the QB on a blind side blitz? A couple blocked XPs? Nice tape for the caliber kid Northwestern gets but not BCS top shelf, in my opinion.

    Iowa:

Fair enough. I like the analogy of being a "court appointed psychiatrist being asked to evaluate a serial killer's mental competency." Maybe we should always use and think of the following image when mentioning the name of Hoke? shrug

Yes all while you dig in the story to understand the logic behind scUM recruiting you are cringing, while laughing at the horror. Perhaps you need to get a psychiatrist for yourself to get over this mess?

You see, I don't care because I happen to think the Buckeyes will be fine come football time. There is so much going for the program and in my mind scUM is the least of the Buckeyes worries.

    Just my thought on this.

Buck, not trying to argue here, (but I respectfully) disagree that this thread should not be on here.

I think an article regarding UM recruits fits into that description. If a Kate Upton thread works here, than so does this....jmo

Whales are saltwater animals, while guppies are freshwater animals. This would never happen in a natural environment.rant

  • They going for a class of 85 this year?

    Js1nv3

  • So a no name coach going from 7-6 to 11-2 and landing the no.4 class in the country isn't impressive? The difference between UM and BH is that UM already has a name for himself so he should be able to land some top talent. What BH did and has done is nothing short of astonishing due to the fact that he wasn't the big name coach UM is. I'm wondering if BH might just turn out to be the Michigan version of the sweatervest. BH's main interest is in beating Ohio. The thing that bothers me about UM is that he did not go out a winner the year he left Florida. He left when the going got tough and left behind the kids he recruited. OSU should get some of the top players in the country no matter who is the coach. Till UM coaches a big ten game I wouldn't be so quick to believe he is the greatest thing ever. Let what he does with your team on the football field speak for itself. Then tell me how great he is. Let's not forget. UM did not build the Florida program. He came in and coached Zooks players and won. The program he walked into at Florida was loaded with top talent. It was nothing like what BH walked into at Michigan. You guys made it a game. You did that because the Michigan team is not very talented.

UM has been a winner every where he's been. He even had Utah in a BCS bowl game. Ohio State will be no different. And I'm sure his desire for Ohio State to have a winning program is even greater since its his home state.

That being said, I do think BH was a good hire for you. He will be a winner and bring UM back to prominence.

I think the rivalry will actually be a rivalry once again.
