scUM or not, this is another stupid, antiquated rule. I don't really think anything will come of it, but how many times did scUM fans bring up "a rule is a rule" to us over kids selling their own personal property? How about the repeat offender issue? If they are not still on probation, then they just came off of it.

  • Dumb rule. But Roy knew Mike. But just a FYI...some buckeye players have done the same thing very recently. We all know both programs are on probation....

I do find it to be very funny that some rookie reporter from Ohio decided to point this twitter exchange out without looking into the fact that osu players are also doing it.

Which OSU players are you talking about? Making an inflamitory statement like that without examples comes off as hearsay. I'm not doubting that this may or may not have occurred. You just say it like its common knowledge but what else can you expect from a SCummer.

  • I also think its a stupid rule, but then again, I also believe its a stupid rule that player's lose all control over their personal belongings. As stated above, all we heard from every direction was that it doesn't matter how stupid the rule is, a rule is a rule. So I would say it definitely justifies action, which is now repeat offender, and should trigger a full investigation to see if the university has lost all control of these twitter accounts.

Nice. Thanks for the information. Not trying
to bad mouth you but just saying that in order to present a well structured argument you gotta include proof. Anything else is just lip service.

LOL! Like that would ever happen. An upvote for making me laugh on a snowy day in Cleveland.

  • This is a stupid rule. I don't think anyone should be punished for this. As the NCAA should do, I'm moving on...

  • Not only can you still see Travis Howard's tweets to Burrows and Woodard... putting Howard in the same camp as UM's players on this violation... but I think it's silly for anyone to compare Tresselgate with a simple "congrats!" tweet. Why is it so hard for buckeye fans to understand that the outrage wasn't about amateur athletes illegally selling their stuff for profit, it was about the head coach with the saintly public image who repeatedly lied to the NCAA in an attempt to cover-up the fact that he knowingly played inelligible players? After recently authoring a book about "winning in God's way"? Do you get it yet? The longer you try to trivialize it by saying "oh, it was just some kids selling their own stuff", the longer you're gonna feel unduly victimized, rather than relishing the fact (as you should) that you got away with some MAJOR infractions with just a slap on the wrist.

Exactly! Dumb rule considering roundtree and mccray are both trotwood products...i've seen plenty tweets b/t college players and high school stars on twitter. I think the NCAA comes up with the strangest rules and wonder why are broken so often

native you're a good poster, and I agree the tweeting is ridiculous. It just struck me cuz is was McCray....

anyway, what you call a slap on the wrist, someone else may call too much - and that is the NCAA's fault. Meaning their "punishment" of their infractions has never had any consistency, from case to case...jmo

btw the way, I think our penalties are about right for the infraction(s)

OSU is paying the price. I do not think it was a slap on the wrist. Could it have been worse?....no doubt. But any time you lose schollies...that is a big hit to a program. Bottom line...if the coaching staff at osu doesn't have to be so selective...I think the total number of recruits between mich and osu is much closer than it is right now. Jmo

  • I post this article two days ago from the AP Service that receiver Roy Roundtree and the other scum linebacker voilated the NCAA RULE. The NCAA needs to fix it's own house, before messing with other minor changes to the up coming season! Change & fix your stupid rules & violations that are attach to these out dated or dumm rules and procedures!

I agree the situation is different, but don't go around saying we got off easy. For the violations, our penalty was significantly worse than any similar case. And to add, I am friends with an avid Michigan fan that lives about a mile away from the Big House. He regularly sits in the parents section of home and away UM games. He gets these tickets from players in exchange for FREE auto repairs. This is an NCAA violation and a bad one, especially while on probation. The last time I was there, he had tickets to the 2009 MSU-UM game in East Lansing in the UM parents section. This is 100% true, if you don't believe me, push the issue. So go back to your site if you want to say how easy we got off.

  • Like I said above, I think the rule is stupid and I highly doubt anything will come from it. I also don't think it is comparable to the end result of the tattoo deal. I would say, however, it is comparable to the start of the tatto deal. I don't think anyone will argue that the problem was with Tressel covering up everything. But the investigation didn't start from him covering up the deal. It started when it became known that these players traded their personal items for tattoos. And I also think that is a stupid rule. If that stupid rule wasn't in place, then Tressel didn't cover anything up and there would have been no investigation. But yes, the outcome found much more then just some stupid tweeting violation. I specifically remember a poster on another site saying, "I don't care if the rule says a player cannot shower after practice. If they did, then they broke the rules. Rules are rules."

For the sake of years worth of agony, lets just hope the NCAA investigation doesn't find anything else that might have gone on up there during the time frame. Otherwise, it'll be ugly with the probation and all.

I don't think it's all that serious when a player sells HIS OWN PERSONAL POSSESSIONS THAT DO NOT BELONG TO THE NCAA for class books and to travel to see his dying relatives. Those are the reasons behind why they did what they did. And I would do the same thing. Fuck you. I can't wait to see this whole thing blow up and Michigan get severe sanctions after they open up a major investigation of the university. They're still on probation so it's gonna suck for them.
