Urban Meyer to Ohio State Official Information Thread

  • Nut Tree said...

Talked to a Florida fan about this. And he along with everyone else in the SEC believe thsat Urban Meyer will not have the same success as he did in Florida. Based on the fact that it's the Big Ten. OMG, I can't wait

ummmm. so isn't that acknowledgement that the BIG is more competitive than the SEC?

  • I live here and many of the Florida backers are complaining and telling me he was good with talent already assembled. When asked if they were just jealous most replied yes. They are not happy with the way he left and that he was only out one year but most all of them say that tOSU is getting a great coach.

The only thing I have not heard has been the community activities. I have a close friend starting to ask around Gainsville. I am sure that he did some great things in that area as well.

Looking forward to hearing Carmen sung after a lot of victories.

Florida fans are simply in denial about their own program. Florida fans probably think that if Urban had the chance to come to OSU before originally accepting the UF job that he would have still chosen UF. Florida has been on a good run primarily because of Urban, not in spite of him.

But Urban did have good talent when he arrived and just happened to leave the cupboard bare when he left.

    That's something you can't deny.

Urban will have success here but anyone thinking he will match his success in the SEC is drinking the kool-aid.

That's nonsense, every team will have down years occasionally, and at Florida that's especially the case. Everyone talks about the talent in Florida but no one ever mentions the fact that there are 3 major schools in Florida, and everyone in the SEC competing for that talent. Meyer will have a built in advantage at OSU, not only can Ohio State recruit nationally, but we should continue to lock down the state in recruiting. scUM has specifically been hurt by OSU's success in locking down Ohio.

Absolutely right -- to say he left the cupboard bare at Florida is to be ignorant.

    Urban's recruiting class rankings from 2007 - 2010:
    2007: 2
    2008: 4
    2009: 5
    2010: 1

In fact after looking at those recruiting class rankings, I'd have to ask anyone who tries to make the case that Meyer left Florida's cupboard bare what the f*ck they are smoking...he set them up with all-star rosters.

You're correct he had great recruiting classes on paper. For some reason those classes stopped producing by the time Tebow left. There were rumors of 5star freshmen coming in and behaving like they were entitled while the upper classmen resented the publicity the kids were getting. One thing I appreciated about JT was he recruited 5 stars but also made sure he filled out thye classes with roleplayers. I hope he gets us a solid mix of talent not just a bunch of egos. I believe he will.

    Absolutel right razor!!

This guy is an amazing recruiter and took any kid in the country he wanted while at Florida.

The cupboard isn't bare at OSU, and the QB for his system is in place (although i think he will run a hybrid of it to adapt to the weather, esp if they get LSU's oline coach- love their offense down there),

Give him one or two speed guys (may already have them- current staff didn't always put players in the best positions to succeed) and he will average 40 a game in the BIG. Count on it.

Guys we're in for a hell of a run!!! Buckle up- its a GREAT time to be a BUCKEYE!!!

    OOOOOO HHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You gotta remember too that most of these "un-biased" recruiting services are in SEC country. Several years back Maurice Wells (Jacksonville) was rated as the best back in the country. After he committed to OSU they dropped him to something like #9 in the state or something ridiculous like that. Look at Notre Dame also. These kids get rated higher just because they choose Notre Dame for whatever reason. These class rankings are just a bunch of crap.

I think if he can put up a fence around OSU and get a few good players from outside Ohio they will be just fine. I'm more excited about getting a new coaching staff that can actually make the players we get better. I'm not sure that has happened that much in the Tressel era. Let's be honest, the offensive line play has been terrible and Alex Boone never improved his entire four years. I just really didn't see some of these highly-rated players get that much better here. Hopefully this new coaching staff can develop that talent and kick scUMs butt every year.

That's not exactly true. He lost plenty of players from Florida to other programs. I don't remember the kid's name but he ended up going to USC. He was a LB from Lakeland and I think his name was Keith Rivers. He was one of the highest rated LBs in the nation. It was a surprise to see him go to USC.

By the way, how many of you have even ever heard of this guy? To my knowledge, he didn't do anything at USC. Just goes to show not to put much faith in ratings. Give me a hard worker like Beanie Wells or Chris Spielman any day and I'll give you a team that refuses to lose. Give me a team of prima donnas and I'll show you a team that is more interested in calling attention to themselves than winning.

You could say the same thing about Tressel. He did great with Cooper's players. He did beat scUM regularly but on the national stage in BCS games, he had some memorable, embarrassing defeats for OSU. Urban benefitted from Zook's players but I think Urban mostly benefitted from Tebow who is arguably the best college QB ever to play the game. (OK, before you start complaining, you don't know how much it hurts for me to say that--I HATE UF--but without Tebow no way they win those two national titles. He willed them to win a bunch of games)

I think Meyer will give us in-roads into Florida to get skill players and hopefully he will open up the offense that we can get some good WRs and develop a deep threat we haven't had since the last millennium.

You're not thinking of Keith Rivers. Rivers was recruited and lost by Zook, and was a big time Gamer. He was drafted in the First Round by the Bengals in 2008. I think he's on IR this year, but I believe he's still with the Bengals.

Yeah, you're right. So I don't remember who it was. Still, it's unreasonable to expect a head coach to get EVERYONE he wants. You're gonna lose some. But I agree with everyone who has said that if they don't want to be here, I don't want them here either. Give me a team of guys who want to play for OSU and I can live with that. If Dunn wants to go to UM, fine. The best thing we can do is show these guys who decide to go to scUM that they are making a mistake.

  • He will MOP the big ten in two years and this is why. He can attract talent from the south. All he needs is a few kids from florida each year and we will mop the big ten. Because overall the big ten is slow at certain spots like DB's and LB's. example where is the Qb from the school up north from? example number two look at our own number ten who is a true freshman all over the field with one leg who had 20 tavkles in the PSU game.

  • Bottom line if you dont have a great QB you dont win and Brantley was not the answer and he now has Braxton,Cardale the two best QB's in HS last year and hopefully Malik and Marshall and he will be on cruise control.
Actually love that Indiana Freshman QB that kid will be great also.
Shane Wynn mistake we let him get away also. He looks very good as a FR WR and returner.

  • Urban's PASSION and EXCITEMENT for Ohio State Football is unmeasurable and to see how DRIVEN he is to coach OSU makes me excited and it is what the team was lacking this entire year ! He has that IT factor that is so contagious ! I cannot wait till next football season ! Just listening to him talk and answer questions makes me wanna play !
