Honestly, even Tressel has run off players before, just not very often (he ran one off last spring -- can't remember the kid's name, I think he was a TE). Now, here is where I stand on that -- if the coach (don't care who the coach is at any given school) truly sees the player having no chance to contribute in a 4 year window no matter how hard they work, then I have no problem with them sitting down and encouraging a transfer or a move off of football scholarship. What I don't want to see is existing commitments having their offers pulled. If the previous staff (Fickell, Tressel, etc.) already offered a scholly and a kid accepted, then I would like to see us honor that commit and give the kid a chance to play here.
Urban's not an idiot, though and he isn't Les Miles / Nick Saban -- I think he knows how he could burn some bridges if he makes Ohio high school coaches upset.

When I lived in Atlanta, Bobby Cremins would run guys off after one year at Tech. Bobby Knight was getting a lot of pub for doing that, but Cremins was worse IMO.
I think that commitments made before this weekend should be honored, too. What do you do, however, with the guys who had offers, but no commitment, and now they want to join the good ship Urban? Think that LF or whoever has a list of guys that they would still offer and when a kid calls and says 'I want to come to OSU', LF can say 'sorry, we're re-evaluating our offers and we'll get back to you by the end of the year'?

I understand the concept of not wanting to piss off HS coaches and pull schollies, that is real and I am sure Meyer understands that. However, these kids can do the same thing (think Dunn) so I almost want to think that the HS coaches need to understand this. If the HS coaches are going to get so pissy......then where is Dunn's HS coach during all his waffling? Why isn't he worried about pissing off OSU coaches??

No doubt, it's a two-way street. As far as the player, it comes down to how the college recruiting the kid explained how they treat a commit -- for example, Tressel wanted committed kids to take visits to other schools. Pat Fitzgerald tells the kids that he expects them to honor their commit and not visit other schools once they are committed. I'm not sure how Fickell and crew have dealt with this. If they've told Dunn to take other visits, etc. then he's done nothing wrong. I'm one who feels like once you're committed, you shouldn't be visiting other schools. Period. Would the kid like it if the school offering the scholarship went out and offered that kid's spot to other players while he was still committed? (an example Fitzgerald actually uses when recruiting) My guess is probably not. It's a two-way street.

One of the things Meyer does when he takes over is to run off players to make room for new recruits and more numbers. With a limited number of openings he will have to get rid of some to have schollies for his new people. I can see him running off red shirt guys to get some outstanding recruits. Will you be happy with these tactics just to get Urban?

well....if he transferred he would sit out a year, so by the time he was ready Brax would be a junior. And he is competing with John Brantley and Jacoby Brissett @ FLA. Some teams actually like to have competition @ QB you know and not have a Braxton Miller with a Joe Bauserman behind him.

I hope that Meyer comes in and changes the platform in which OSU has become used to in this regard. There should be competition at every position. A school like OSU shouldn't have a huge gap in talent between the starting QB and second string. I don't see a thing wrong with getting rid of players like Bauserman who shouldn't be on the team in that capacity or using up a scholarship. I'm sure that there are a number of players who are in his same situation that will never play a down, what does OSU owe them? What does Meyer owe them? They were given a scholarship to perform on the football field. IF they are not holding up their end of the bargain, why shouldn't we be able to go out and get kids who can? Again, I just hope that the mindset that tolerates mediocrity at OSU will leave with the current coaching staff.

Urban will run off players
