Urban's First 2012 Offensive Play...?

  • Braxton in the gun, quick pass to Thomas for a 7 yard gain.

    100% confident that Brax gets the ball on the first play. He is the most important piece of Urbs offense. Judging by the spring game, Braxton may be throwing the ball a good 70 percent of the time. Its good to start the game out with an easy completion.

    We won't throw like that at all. Meyer's offense is very run heavy. There will be more passing than we're used to simply because it will be a balanced offense and not walrusball, but no, we'll run probably 50-65% of the time. The spring game was an anomaly used as a measurement tool for Meyer to see how kids could do throwing / catching the ball in front of a crowd. He said this in his post game presser. We're spread to run with a balanced pass attack mixed in. I'm so looking forward to the up tempo style as well.

A 5 catch & run is as good as a 5 yard run, maybe even better if it spreads the field and opens up holes and vertical passing lanes. No more eight men in the box, even when we're trying to convert 4th downs or on the goal line.

  • I think youll be surprised. and as Iowa said that includes screens and quick flares. That was a big part of his offense at UF.

    Absolutely. You'll see a lot of WR / Bubble screens when the defense starts to load the box as well as some traditional screen and flash screens (Herman will bring this over from Iowa State). Overall though we'll be power run out of the 'Gun, with some option, zone read, etc. mixed in. I'm most excited about the super fast tempo. We're all so used to seeing our guys huddle for half a minute before every snap that it'll be a lot of fun to see the offense be aggressive and go fast.

    i think that was actually one 3-play set against nebraska except bad1 and bad3 happened on the same play...he killed two birds with one stone...or more likely two fans with one throw

    it was awesome just too short. funny but true story: we were on the dan ryan in chicago and i noticed a car in the next lane w/tsun vanity license plates, you know, with that obnoxious M logo. it said "FTOSU". I got right on the dude's ass and blew my horn. The guy was on his phone and it scared the f'ing shit out of him. I swung around and gave him the finger as I passed and shouted, "f^ck THIS, asshole!" the last thing he saw as I pulled away was my OSU vanity plate.

    my wife was pissed...but only because my kids were in the car...and we were coming from church...but it made me smile all day...
