Urbs Too Tough on Shazier?

mountain out of a molehill attempt - my opinion

new season, no problems, BRIGHT future.

    Go Bucks!

i love bill livingston's article, and i literally shook my head when i read this this morning. totally anti what he usually produced. was fairly shocked when i read that final line. he makes solid points though in it.

So, you are telling me Ryan Shazier played like a OSU LB in that game? I don't care if he is injured. If he is injured that is affecting the rest of our team, it is the coaches responsibility to get someone who can play like an OSU LB.

I respect Ryan Shazier for trying to gut it out. However, he should not have been playing. If he is on that field, we need OSU LB performance. If he is injured, he needs to sit out and heal.

you make it sound like we had some sort of better option in that game. he was injured, didnt play well, and yet he was still our best linebacker in that game. i know urban's the ultimate motivator, comment is still a dick thing to say about a guy giving it his all in the biggest game of the year with a mangled knee

As I said, it's the coaches responsibility to recruit and develop guys to make sure we don't have that problem. If you're on that field, you better be performing like an OSU LB or some coach is to blame.

I agree. No way Curtis Grant couldn't have played. We stayed with the star on the field. Curtis Grant at ml with Bino at olb. We had 5 db for most of that game. Scum runs a 3 wr spread. It is the coaches job to get players to play. Carpenter got hurt and Little Animal came right on in as a fr.

I agree with you, Cavsfan, but here is the point, Meyer called out Shazier, an 18 year old true freshman playing his ass off in the biggest game of the year while he was hurt. He didn't call out Vrabel or the DC for playing an injured player or not developing sufficient depth. Kid gets blamed, the coaches skate.

BUT, I still like the mentality he is trying to instill in this team. No excuses!

Yep we don't buy their papers anymore so they're trying to get screen hits.

    Screw em.

  • I think Urban needs to chill out. Calling out a freshmen who was hurt and still played really well doesn't do the guy any favors.Beside he wasn't even the coach last year what does he know what was going on?? Just watching a game on TV doesn't mean you know everything.

Maybe you should take the same advice? Reading a quote in a newspaper doesn't make you "know what was going on".

  • A whole lot of nothing but reporters trying to create a buzz. Shazier played over his head as a freshman. Shazier shouldve been replaced by Grant in that game cause it was obvious he was hurt. Meyer's just motivating these guys, making them stay hungry. He'll continue to show the guys tough love which im sure they'll respect and look back and thank him for later down the line

I'm not going to lie I'm not a big fan of Urban the more I learn about the guy the less I like about him. Im more of a old school kinda guy who doesn't like how he goes about in coaching. He talks to much and is gimmicky in the things he does. Also not a fan of the spread I'm sorry but that's not Ohio state football or how to play in the BIG. I get it everyone is happy the guy is coaching here and he is a winner but no need to kiss the guy's ass before he has done anything.

I also don't think he will even get as close to winning as much games as Jim Tressel did here. A lot of the younger Ohio State fans don't seem to realize what we had the last ten years under Jim Tressel it was a golden age in Ohio State football that we haven't seen since woody Hayes. 1 National championship, 7 Conference titles. 8-1 VS Michigan including winning 7straight. 7 BCS bowl games. He is also the second winningest coach in Big Ten football History. I don't see Urban topping that.

Oh Christ! Now you've gone and done it!
    BLASPHEMY!
How dare you challenge 'hope and change'

Great D, running game, special teams = a lot of wins, especially under Tress
Sadly, that's no longer good enough......

Disagree, Urban will top it...Tress did what he did with a partial clown staff. Just think of what he could have done with some of the guys Urban has brought in.

And as far as old school goes, I was a student when Woody coached (Earle too) and I can tell you I'm excited as heck that Urban is here. Gimmicks don't win NCs and I think you're way off there. He's excelled wherever he's been, let's give him some credit. And yes Tress was great for the school but if he didn't drive you crazy in some important aspects then I'm not sure what to say. Don't forget, he did well in a mediocre conference too.

    IndyDog

  • 'mediocre conference' = parting shot

That same Tressel beat beat Alcorn State led by McMair, at YSU for one of his titles there...no need for parting shots....just my opinion.

That said Indy,I'm just in a bad place right now, thanks to one of our fucking mods, so nothing personal, ok?

No way in hell Urbs will top Tressel. The only way he perceivably could is to win 3 national championships in 10 years, that's not going to happen.

Expectations are being set unrealistically high for UFM.

Also, with the way UFM is allowing Hoke to come into Ohio and pull recruits, he better make damn sure he beats scUM. Because if those scUM teams full of Ohio boys are beating us, I will be the first to lead the charge to run UFM's ass out of town.

To me, when we see no faults in our coaches ever, and we can never point out any flaws of players or coaches, then we are no different than Penn State. And that's scary.

I understand you're a loyal fan, as am I, but the comment was bullshit.

    Geez!

Tressel was great. I'm an old-school guy who loved Tress...but I hope Urban will be even better.

    Doesn't everyone?

Just imagine what Tress could have done, had he surrounded himself with some better assistants. His record would have only been better than what it was. I am however interested to see what 'step on your throat' looks like. Especially after last year and all the media crap. I have 2 acres to bury a body, and Im fine with putting plots for all teams we play back there. BURY EVERYONE!

That article was poorly written and slanted as a anti-OSU article. It goes on to talk about how Urban's comments about offering LeBron is going to really hurt Cleveland's recruiting. By bashing LeBron, Urban could have said goodbye to future 4-5 star LB Dante Booker from St. Vincent St Mary's.

I do see fault in our coaches. Read my comments in this thread. It is our coaches fault that Shazier was out there in the first place. Our coaches should have recruited and developed better LBs and had them ready to play. Unacceptable. That is why Urban came in and really went heavy on the LB recruiting.

This is a message board where people come to discuss Ohio State football.

I disagree with this. This is the exact same thing as the Front Row, minus the 10 a month. Everytime I peek at the Front Row there is 50 percent football, 50 percent something else. I just peeked. There are threads on food, women, ranting, baseball, olympics. Throw up an OT in the thread title and pass over it if you do not want to look at it. The people around here that discuss can only talk so much football in the off-season. The people that have a problem with the other stuff are guys that could'nt hit the beachball back if they tried. I personally do not want to come here, read for 5 minutes and shut down. Its nice to have some guys interact and converse. Otherwise, just watch the news.

It was pretty bad in that Michigan game when we had to put an injured guy out there whose performance hurt the team. Our LBers were the weakness last year. Where did I said our LBs were bad under Tressel? I am talking specifically about last season.
