Video of Jake and Mewhort after arrests

  • SHAWNEE HILLS, Ohio - Video taken by police in the moments after two Ohio State football players were arrested early Saturday showed them discussing how they should break the news to coach Urban Meyer.

Starting tight end Jake Stoneburner and left tackle Jack Mewhort were taken into custody after police said they were caught urinating outside a Shawnee Hills child care center.

Stoneburner, Mewhort and a third man, Austin Barnard, who is not affiliated with the football team, fled police, officers said. The three were charged with obstructing official business.

Stoneburner and Barnard were later seen crouched between vehicles that were parked nearby for the Memorial Tournament. Mewhort came out from nearby woods after police threatened to use a dog to find him, officers said.

The three men were transported to the Shawnee Hills Police Department sub-station for processing.

Video taken from the processing showed Mewhort and Stoneburner discussing their next steps.

Mewhort: "(The) first person I'm calling right now…"

    Stoneburner: "Who?"

    Mewhort: "Coach Meyer."

    Stoneburner: "Really?"

    Mewhort: "Yeah."

    Stoneburner: "What will you say?"

Mewhort: "Say, 'Coach, I made a bad mistake this week.'"

    Stoneburner: "Don't, don't call him."

Mewhort: "You want to let him find out by himself?"

Stoneburner was also charged with public urination, 10TV News reported.

The two players were indefinitely suspended from the team until further notice.

+1, but this is exactly why I was concerned when Meyer instituted a zero tolerance policy. It was only a matter of time before players screwed up. Other than Tebow, who didn't do stupid stuff and reckless behavior in their early 20's? There is something to be said that boys will be boys and a few mistakes at that age don't make you a horrible person. I hope Meyer doesn't throw these guys off the team like he did with Clarke, who had a previous strike against him.

JAG...I don't think he had much of a choice given the set of circumstances surrounding the program when he came in. Our bed is made, now we lay in it.

  • Outside of a child care center? That could stick with them for life.

You're not far off the mark.

The fact is that the media continues to have this strange fascination with penis's and quasi lewd acts. FOX News here locally is full of such reports. You come away asking yourself "How is this news?"

I'm sure part of the reason why the three ran after they realized they had done something stupid--(esp since they haven't been reported as drunk and probably had more than one restroom within short distance to go to) is because they didn't want to endure the embarrassment of this.

Imagine how Stoneburner's going to feel when he's meeting with NFL GMs and owners in eight months and they ask him why he ran or why he even did it (urinating between buildings) in the first place. As if this behavior is indicative of his character or how he'd perform on the field. As far as I'm concerned they could've paid their fine, bail, etc and beyond that, this matter should've been handled in house. That's how Woody would've handled it. He wouldn't have allowed the media to take hold of it and thusly embarrass the players over something as insignifcant as this ordeal.

Well, we should be glad those days are over where a coach is able to cover everything up. Remember, last coach we had tried to cover things up and look at what took place.

Nothing wrong in having a media that is open and able to report/investigate. It's up to the public to decide if what they report is valid. Ratings and subscriptions and page views reflect that. Remember, the media only report on things the public wants to hear about.

  • Not sarcasm at all. I also know a person who got caught urinating late night at a school. Registered sex offender for life. That's why when I hear about something dealing with a sex offender I usually question what is was they did to get listed.

It's not about covering things up because after all this doesn't anywhere near qualify as an NCAA violation except for the arrest itself.
They get arrested, pay their bond, etc but beyond that, what business is it of ours.
These are college kids who made an arguably dumb decision. It happens everyday and we don't hear about it on the nightlly newscast.

This isn't enlightening us into some corrupt practices of a university or government officials.
And as far as the public wanting to hear about it? What makes you so sure. Now unless you're someone with a juvenile sense of humor or voyeuristic tendencies. But sensible and mature adults have little time or interest to concern themselves with minor issues such as this.
The media force feeds us stories such as this and we've become conditioned into accepting them. That's the reality. Not the other way around!

I get down voted for that? Its not like I'm saying that should happen, just saying that it does happen. Personally I think its crap! But I do know for a fact that it happens. I'm sure it depends on the judge too.

you really are pathetic. You have nothing better to do then to troll OSU boards and try to stir the pot?
Seriously, since you can't get a girlfriend, try hookers. They don't mind going to your mom's house to see you.
