Was looking back on past recruiting classes and looked at 2002

  • and man was that class STACKED! That class had Troy Smith, Maurice Clarett, Nick Mangold, AJ Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, Santonio Holmes, Jay Richardson, Rob Sims, Tim Schafer, Doug Datish, Quinn Pitcock, Nate Salley, Roy Hall, TJ Downing, EJ Underwood. Justin Zwick and Mike D'Andrea were in that class too but didn't live up to expectations. I knew most of those guys played on the same teams but didn't know all were in the exact same class. That was a phenomenal recruiting job. I think Urban will be approaching classes that will be successive like that

  • Yeah, i agree, it sure was a stacked class. But if you look, who could have ever said that A.J. Hawk was going to be such a dominator in the middle of the defense, he was just a 3 star recruit. But that's tOSU for ya, if they aren't studs already, we'll make them one!!!

  • Nick Mangold had a 4 Star rating!

I agree. The 2005 class had alot of players that were drastically underrated during recruiting. James Laurinaitis, Malcolm Jenkins, Brian Hartline, Brian Robiskie, and Austin Spitler were all 3 stars while Anderson Russell and Donald Washington were 2 stars. These guys definitely benefited from becoming Buckeyes

  • Tressel's style of offense and his loyalty to his staff (Bollman) kept him from being a truelly great recruiter. High school kids are attracted to wins and flash. Coach Tress had his share of wins, but was a woefully short on flash. Coach Meyer has an abundance of both.

Can't say i disagree. If he would've been a bit more aggressive i could have seen him getting more big offensive recruits. His later classes started to get alot smaller and i think most of it was due to alot of his loyalty to seniors. He did make a splash with Pryor's class cause that class had some big time recruits. I just wish that offensive line could have lived up to expectations cause those guys were rated extremely high

Every time I hear the name Clarett I just shake my head and wonder what if, kid could of been one of the greats. Zwick the best recruiter we ever had, so sad he could never improve his accurracy, and D'Andrea was the one player I was really pumped to see play. Great class but could have been so much better with a little better luck.

  • If I remember correctly Clarett was the National Offense player of the year and D'Andrea was the National defense player of the year.

  • Mike Kudla was a weight room freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was setting around at an autograph session flexing my god he was huge.

  • Damn that class was sick. I can't even imagine how good they would had Clarett stayed 3 years. We would have had 2 national titles for sure. Go Bucks!

  • The 2002 class was definitely an epic one for sure.

  • Hopefully we can look back at the 2012 class and say the same thing
