What is the Worst Run Pro Sports Franchise?

  • I'm a big Blue Jackets fan and we're coming up on are 12th year in the NHL. We've only made the playoffs once and were swept by the Red Wings 4-0. The other 10 years we've been awful. In fact, stunningly awful. It got me to thinking about the teams in the other major sports that are as incompetent as we are. Here would be my list so see if we agree or differ.

    Hockey
    Columbus Blue Jackets
    New York Islanders

    Baseball
Kansas City Royals are in a league by themselves

    Basketball
    Golden State Warriors
    LA Clippers

    Football
    Cleveland Browns
Detroit Lions ( until the last 2 yrs.)

  • The Royals don't exactly have a fair shake when it comes to their small market size, but yes, they could do a lot better.

How can you NOT include how the Bengals are managed?

    MaxieWoxy

  • The Pirates in baseball have to be up there.

Football.....yah, I think it starts and ends with Cleveland. Heck, the bengals just won the division in 2009.

Hard to say the Clippers with what they have done this year....but Golden State and Sacramento are a couple good starts.

  • Go ahead and throw the KC Chiefs in with the Royals. Must be something in the water. For years if they had a player even sniff the Pro Bowl or overachieve...they were on the block. Meanwhile, they always seemed to keep the guys who didn't perform. Not a fan of either, but when I lived there the fans were rabid over it.

Tough crowd. The Chiefs just won the division in 2010. Cleveland hasn't seen the playoffs since 2002 (as a wild card) and hasn't won a playoff game since 1994 and hasn't won the division since 1989.

  • NFL: Washington Redskins. According to Forbes Magazine, the Redskins are the second most valuable franchise in the NFL, behind the Dallas Cowboys, and were valued at approximately $1.55 billion as of 2009. The Redskins were also the highest grossing team in the NFL with $345 million in revenue during the 2009 season. They have also broken the NFL's mark for single-season attendance nine years in a row. And yet Snyder can't put a winning product on the field in a town that he basically owns from a pro sports standpoint.

NBA: LA Clippers. Maybe the worst pro franchise EVER across all sports.

MLB: The Royals deserve almost as much sympathy as votes for this one. Honorable Mention: Why the Marlins can't seem to make it work just amazes me.

    NHL: What's that?

    iowabuckeyes

  • The Cleveland Browns without a doubt. They need no assistance in screwing things up cause they do that all by themselves. Not a hockey fan but Blue Jackets are a joke of a franchise. But my vote is going for the Charlotte Bobcats. They could be extracted and nobody would care.

  • Ill say this about the Cleveland Indians, Dolan is one of the worst owners in sports. Anytime a player gets good he'll trade him away immediately. I cant blame the fans for not showing up cause theres just no faith in the franchise to get back to what they were in the 90s at the present moment. Cy Young winners and productive hitters always get traded( CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Victor Martinez, Mark DaRosa, etc) or the team will just choke in the end so why waste money in a bad economy when you know how things are gonna go.

The New York Islanders used to be a dominant team in Hockey...and I think they've won 4 Stanley Cups (2 or 3 of them were back to back). I wouldn't include the Islanders with the Blue Jackets.

  • cleveland browns and it isnt even close. this franchise has been BAD for 23 years. for 13 of those 23 they have been PATHETIC. Though the detroit lions have also been bad up until recently, they at least were watchable and competitive even in their 0-16 season. the cleveland browns year after year come off as arrogant and pompous to their fan base acting like they know what they're are doing. results would beg to differ. every three years the same results happen: failed coach, failed gm, new coach, new gm. the one consistent is the pathetic owenership(which also haunts the cleveland indians) lerner is a multi-billionaire who earned a whopping ZERO of those billions for himself. he grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and sold MBNA before his fathers body was even cold in the ground. Al Lerner is probably rolling over in his grave watching what randy has done with something Al was so proud of.

    NHL: What's that?

In NYC right now it's dominating the Yankees/Mets which is a hard thing to do. The Rangers are a really cool bunch right now and are 2 games away from the Stanley Cup finals.

Hockey is for sure a regional thing and the most niche of the 4 major sports, but I have to say they are the most loyal (Rangers and original six anyway) of any fan. I was fortunate enough to score 4 $600 seats (a gift) to the first Ranger game of the Conference Championships at the Garden and have to say it was probably one of the most exciting sporting events I've ever been to. It was my first playoff game (been to many regular season games). Hard for me to pay much attention to the Yanks right now even though I was at a game last weekend.

and chris perez has the audacity to call us out. forgive that we have watched 8 out of 10 years be losing seasons and this front office get PROMOTED for trading away 2 cy young award winners in two years. think about this, we traded cliff lee, cc sabathia and victor martinez in 3 back to back years. and what have we gotten in return for them? nothing in my opinion. laporta sucks. brantly is average at best. masterson looks like a one year wonder. lou marson might be the worst baseball player in the pro's. 2 pitches who have had tommy john surgery. we were clowned on all 3 of those trades. so forgive indians fans for not showing up.

Sad situation over there with the Nassau Coliseum, I feel bad for Islander fans and that's a tough thing to say coming from a Ranger fan.

You forgot to mention the Jimenez trade. Might be the worst of all, giving up a #1 & 2 front end rotation guys in White and Pomerantz. Look for them to start shopping Cabrera next.

  • Blue Jackets are obviously not good, but there not terribly owned. Just draft bad, and bad coaching and GM. I believe the owner tries to do good just no results. There are worse ex. Phoenix, Islanders

    I'm a huge Rangers fan!

From way back in the days of the Maloney brothers Don and Dave! Barry Beck was one of my favorite defensemen.

I was happy as hell they took a cup in 94 with Messier as the captain! Good times....and it was fun seeing him re-united with Gretzky in a Rangers uniform!

    Rangers hockey is awsome!

yeah I agree....I hated the New York Islanders as much as I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers! I respect them...but can't stand them!

Do yo remember Dennis Potvin and Mike Bossy? They were both playing when they won those Stanley Cups....I didn't like those guys but they sure were good.

Bear...the "Potvin Sucks" chant is still heard 3-4 times a game to this day and once in a while at a Knicks game too!!

  • 1) Cleveland Browns- I would'nt recognize the non-existant owner if he came up to me in person and punched me in the balls, instead of having the team do it every Sunday.

    2) Cleveland Indians- The Dolan's promised to spend money if the team was in the hunt.......................THEY LIED! Now nobody goes to the games. 5000 fans is embarrasing. From a team that had 455 straight sellouts to 5000 frickin fans.

  • Ohio is cursed with poorly run teams. The Blue jackets, the Bungles, the Clowns and the Indians. The Browns have a guy who couldnt care less about football and just throws money at the team to no avail. The Indians have owners who have figured out that they can make more money with a low payroll and horrible attendence just by collecting welfare from other MLB owners. The Bungles.....Mike Brown. Maybe he got lucky with the carson Palmer trade but we shall see. The Blue Jackets? its the NHL so its really not a big deal outside of about 7 markets.(Detroit, Toronto, Philly, Montreal, NYR, Chicago and Boston). The NHL ruined itself when it expanded into places like North carolina,Texas, Florida x 2, Tennessee and Arizona. Not to mention 3 teams in California when 1 would suffice.

Clowns? at least call them the Browns. We may have a shitty run franchise, but we have the best fans in the NFL. Have a little respect.
