What the Wisconsin loss means

  • BuckeyeMark said...

The worst teams of the last decade - 01 7-5, and 04 8-4 BOTH improved enough in the course of the season to beat Michigan teams no one thought they would beat.

04 with Zwick lost @ Northwestern in OT, at home v. WIsconsin, and @ Iowa before making massive switches on offense, including Troy Smith. Team went on to go 5-1 with win over Michigan, and over Oklahoma State in bowl game.

01 with Bellisari lost close games to UCLA, Wisconsin, and Penn State. Wisconsin and Penn State the defense gave up double digit leads in both to lose. Lost by 12 v. Illinois after Bellisari suspended for DUI. Beat Michigan with Krenzel. Lost by 3 to South Carolina in bowl game.

The 11 team has looked better with each challenge: @ Miami, v. MSU, @ Nebraska, and v. Illinois.

Hopefully the team can find a way to shock the Badgers. A spirited win or loss to Wisconsin would likely be a good sign going into games v. Indiana, Purdue, Penn State, and Michigan.

IMO 9-3 or 8-4 would be pretty good considering staff changes, new starters, inexperience, suspensions, injuries, and schedule.

great break down. and i agree we have improved. but it's just funny how in 2 weeks people suddenly think we can get to the big ten championship, we forget we completed 1 pass last game. we wont beat wisconsin completing one pass

  • I personally dont think we need to play a Big10 championship i just want to close the wound a lil bit. wisconsin is personal and mich ,well you all know that! Id rather lose to purdue than either of them. Next year nebraska is on the sh*t list and any other team that beat us this year! Im just askin Fick to pray to the Football Gods to give him the strength to defeat our enemies. Watch Excaliber and Conan the Barbarian this season and motivate the Buckeyes we know and love to defy the odds and woop the butt of our enemies! Hire Jack Bauer as offensive coordinator and "get er dun" --All jokes aside -----WIn DAmnit! DO WHATEVER IT TAKES

Buckybuckbuck I agree that wisconsin and ann arbor tech is personal and that every team that beat us this year, it will be personal next year. I will also say that if a team (that normally would not beat us) is going to beat us, I think this is the year that they have the best chance to do it. All you have to do is look at how young this team is, and I do not care who the coach is next year, the Buckeyes will be a better team next year because of having another year of experience with such a young team (We will not lose many starters from this years team).

No doubt-- i would love to have Simon back and N.Williams. Add Hankins and Roby along with Clarke and Shazier -im excited! Rumors on Hyde and Smith and TY Williams sort of disappoint me but it seems the whole offense wants to go but I hope they hang in there. If you dont expect your team to win then you should never be upset with a loss. Its like playing the lottery with no intention of ever winning--You are in essence, Wasting time and money as well as emotion and we all got better things to do than be michigan! I expect to win everything I do and I expect the same out of my teams. If I lose then I dont QUIT-- I try harder and I expect the same from my Buckeyes -I believe they are trying and IM 100% behind em!

If you think Penn State is atrocious then what is OSU? They look far worse. OSU cannot complete a pass. OSU's play calling is run the ball up the middle every 1st down play. OSU has a clueless coaching staff that can't even call a timeout to try to score or try to stay in the game.

Penn State has played nobody, but I agree with the clueless coaching staff.

im still just trying to process this. literally 2 weeks ago today we were saying we'll be lucky to get to 6 wins. now because we beat a BAD illinois team we're suddenly going to run the table and win the big ten championship? did we get a new coaching staff i didnt know about? guys, we arent winning out, this is our worst team in a decade.

LOL. Your right and if Ron Zook was not coaching we probably would not have beat a bad Illinois team that lost to Purdue.

Oh I agree. Illinois was a good step. However, Wisconsin is THE STEP.

A win over Wisconsin means goals of winning division are in play, possible chance to play in BIG Championship Game, and BCS Bowl.

A loss to Wisconsin means team needs to use Indiana, Purdue, and Penn State to get ready for Michigan.

A lot of people wrote the team off after Miami and Michigan State losses. The team is getting better as experience is gained. Even talented players need experience to reach their potential.

OSU will have to be reasonably balanced on offense, and take something away from Wisky on defense. Otherwise will need a repeat of 2009 where OSU scores multiple TDs on Defense and Special Teams.

  • I'm very impressed with Russel Wilson, very mature player, lots of skills. I "hope" Wisconsin is dinged up from the MSU game and the rest of the bye week gives our team an edge. The team this year has shown hints of greatness (OSU) and at other times horrible mediocrity. My gut tells me that we are most likely in for a world of hurt this saturday (due to lackluster offensive game) but a part of me tells me it just might be a good night. Lets hope for the latter.

The only time I thought OSU was in for a world of hurt in 2011 was @ Nebraska in first Big 10 home game ever.

@ Miami I knew would be tough, particularly after Miami got all their key players back after one game, but thought OSU had a shot. 17-6 until the 4th quarter not bad considering 1 st quarter play of defense and play of QBs.

    v. MSU I knew would be tough due to MSU defense. However, felt like OSU could contain their offense, which they did holding the Spartans to 10 points. Didn't realize QBs and offense would play as bad and lose 10-7.

However, Nebraska game was 27-6 midway through the 4th quarter. Still have to say WHAT IF Miller holds on to the ball until he is down, AND WHAT IF Miller doesn't get injured on the next series. It was the best of times and it was the worst of times all in one game.

I feel pretty good about Wisconsin. OSU after all does have athletes. OSU does have a solid to strong defense. OSU does have a solid Special Teams. OSU does have homefield advantage and at night to boot. OSU may lose, BUT they do have a punchers chance. Which, in a big game is all you can ask for.

really? i was surprised how bad wisconsins defensive line was honestly. i still think wisconsin beats us by 2 td's but their d line does not look good. but we cant complete a forward pass so that may not matter

Exactly what I thought their D line was not top notch at all. Because of that I seriously doubt they could beat lsu Alabama or Oklaholma

Bollman better grow a pair and fast. Let em play. Get the ball to our players in space instead of play action 30-40 yard pass plays everytime we throw the ball. Quick outs and ins and crosses and slants oh my! Whats wrong with that guy. We dont even run a true spread! Make a linebacker have to make a read! I dont know what our offense is or is designed to do other than make a qb, oline and running back look bad and a punter look good. Teams are just pinning their ears back against us while we run slow developing plays and downfield passes where the corner can be off our wr 10 yards and the wide receiver runs straight to him trien to get downfield everytime. 5 yard pass plays actually work. stop and goes, button hooks and quick hitches Then you force tight coverage then you go deep. run motion, no huddle, quick counts etc. Braxton can zip a ball and we all seen that but hes not being used to his abilty. If the only throws he gets to make are 40 yards downfield in low percentage plays then guess what--Hes going to look like sh*t. We dont need a perfect game just an actually gameplan and to eliminate the dumb false starts and delay of game penalties that stall drives. Id rather do a 3 yard pass play on first down to keep the other team guessing. Let em try to jump a route and thats when you fake pump stop and go. Then play action may actually start working when the other team dont know whats coming they can actually be fooled. And why do we only use two eligible receivers when we do pass? Duh- you got your tight end blocking and running back getting shadowed and both of your wideouts running 40 yard routes with a panicking qb that takes off running to get clobbered downfield unless hes gets a spy on him and gets 2 yards or a loss or stays in the pocket trying to wait for the development of the play and gets sacked. I could be wrong but thats how it looks to me.

I think you are hitting upon the fact that Bollman nor anyone else on that staff have any idea what a passing attack is all about and that is not difficult to understand as Tressel just left a few months ago. Please don't mention Troy Smith as one year out of 10 does not cut it. Bollman has no idea of creative pass routes and then there is the problem of getting the ball to the receivers if open.
